Looking for DC throttle system
« on: September 09, 2017, 01:46:57 PM »
Figured I'd post here first. Since switching to HOn30, I'm happily running DC (not DCC). My 20+ year old Tech II appears to have crapped out. What I'd really like to find is one of those old tethered throttle systems (Hogger, MRC?).  There was a black one with a tethered throttle (not sure who made it)...I thought one of you might have one in your closet. I'd be willing to swap something or just purchase from a member of the "Forum Family" before I dive into the deep dark internet.

Along the related lines, I have a nice Digitrax setup that I could probably part with...two wireless throttles, etc

Any inventory or ideas, I'm all ears.

J~,
Remember the Troller Tracker Throttle?  I use to have a wall wart with a tracker in hand (modified of course) so it didn't get hot in my hand.  What's wrong with your Digitrax?  it has the capability of running DC engines as well.  I've not found any damage or problems with the motor acoustic hum (which can be a distraction when not in motion).  Thanx Thom...

Whoa...are you saying I can run my DC trains with my Digitrax unit and throttle? No decoders?

I like this if it's true   A) because I may someday wish to convert with little tiny masochistic decoders
                               B) because I got it already  :D

please confirm I'm understanding and I won't fry my little HOn30 mini trains babies

John,
That's a big 10-4 there good buddy! It's the only system I know that will allow you run both Dcc & DC locos together or separate.  Just put a DC loco on your track and select loco address zero zero and boom you're in command.

Don't worry about the motor hum, it's not going to hurt your engine (at least none of mine have any problems I've noticed over the 10+ years I've had my system.  Go try is out boss and let me know!

Also on your tiny engines etc. (n-scale) there's a switch for HO or N that means your system goes from 14-16 volts down to 9-12 volts so you don't fry the smaller things in railroading.  Read your book or go to digitrax website.  Thanx Thom...

John,

Basically, yes you can. Read the following to fully understand the differences. You may experience some motor humming and or fluctuations.

If you hate plan A, you are certainly not going to like plan B!

Predictable result...once I got on here (and eBay) looking for replacements, the old girl came back to life  :o

Trains are running for the first time in the new house. Tracklaying, other than a couple of sidings that will be on wharfs or trestles yet to be built, is finished!!

Feels good to see a train run.  8)

It's all a necessary evil to get to scenery. BTW, still would swap all of my Digitrax gear for other things I could use.

Thanks for the support!
