For this years challenge I will be building the FSM kit number 145 Coal tower.  This will probably not be a straight kit build because I plan on making some changes for the structure to fit better on my Superior & Seattle Railroad.
#22
I will be adding a few pictures of the layout tours and contest room from the 2019 Narrow Gauge Convention in Sacramento, CA, here in the next few weeks.  I'm downloading the pictures from the iCloud as I'm getting this thread started.  Please stay tuned - this will take me a while to complete.

This thread will contain the photographs that I took during the 2018 Narrow Gauge Convention Layout Tour. There were over 50 layouts on the tour - I managed to get to 16 layouts in the four days of the Convention and will share the photographs I took over the coming weeks.

Can someone tell me when the layout tours are going to be this year?  We can't make plane / travel reservations without that schedule.

Kit Building / SRMW Threadwell Textile on the S&S RR
August 09, 2018, 09:36:23 AM

It's time to do another build thread. I have been searching the internet trying to find a reference build thread on South River Model Works kit number 120 Threadwell Textile  and was unable to find one - so I will post my build of this kit for reference here.

This Thread is the  photographs that I took during the layout tours from the 2012 Narrow Gauge Convention Layout Tours, in Seattle, Washington.

Readers should keep in mind that this was a snapshot in time and that in this case the owners have had 6 years to expand and improve their layouts. The photographs are what I snapped as a modeler doing my own personal research for my layout. I take a lot of pictures in a hurry so I can see as many layouts as possible during the layout tours. As always, I thank the layout owners for opening up their empires. The purpose of these threads is to share what I experienced during the layout tours and maybe provide some inspiration to a fellow modeler. There are a lot of very inspirational layouts and I have found that Narrow Gauge Conventions provides an opportunity to see some of the best.

I promised to share my pictures from the 2017 Narrow Gauge Convention Layout Tours. I know, back in September, - I said when I got to it.  Well, the snow is a couple feet deep outside and getting deeper, so I'm starting to get to it.  Today, I'm starting the thread and sorting pictures. This will be a slow process. Please stay tuned.

My challenge build for 2018 will be the Monster Modelworks Brick Yard Tower.  I plan on starting with the base kit, but will be adding interior detail among other, yet to be determined, modifications.  I want to thank Dan - RAYMO - for getting this challenge started - our second annual. This build will find a home on my Superior & Seattle Railroad.

I will be adding the pictures I took in the contest room at the EXPO to this thread.  Please feel free to add your pictures to this thread so we can keep them all in one place. I think all modelers will find this thread useful for future reference.

This thread is a continuation of Franklin & South Manchester Railroad - 2016 - From the Air. At this point we have made our way around the layout to the Northfield River.  This thread will start with pictures of South Manchester and end at the turntable in Filmore Yard.

I locked my original build thread on this forum (Volume 1)  tonight because of the file corruption problems we have been experiencing. Please see the locked thread entitled Superior & Seattle Railroad Build for the previous 3 - 4 years of build history. I will be continuing the story of this build in the coming days.

Let the games begin. Here is the kit I will be building for the challenge.  I bought this kit a number of years ago and plan to use it as part of a residential area on my layout, the Superior & Seattle RR.  Layout build location picture to follow.
