Kit Building / Build 004: FSM 160 Logging Repair Shed
December 15, 2019, 01:33:44 AM
I wanted to step my game up a bit with a larger kit so I'm breaking out this ebay find.  The Fine Scale Miniatures Logging Repair shed.  This will be my 4th kit, but first diorama.

I want to accomplish a few things with this build:
1.  Build and decorate a diorama base
2.  Add interior and exterior lighting
3.  Hand lay track
4.  Learn how to paint and weather metal castings

Pretty ambitious but I'm looking forward to it.  I'll be using updated tricks outlined in some of my sierra west kits by Brett Gallant in regards to weathering the strip wood, and dealing with the castings.

Here we go

Kit Building / Build 003: KC's Pop's General Store
October 27, 2019, 11:49:02 PM
Finally got around to starting my latest kit today.

Went with gray for the storefront, a little unconventional turquoise for the clapboard, and burnt umber for the trim.  Going to probably be using soft black or white for the doors and window frames and burnt umber for some of the other details.

There's still quite a bit of construction to do before I can start weathering.

I picked up a heat gun when I was repairing one of my rc cars a couple weeks ago, and this thing has sped up the modeling considerably.  It really helps dry paint and glue with a quickness.

Kit Building / Build 002: Fos Scale's Shelton Depot
September 13, 2019, 12:57:04 AM
Started this smaller kit with the goal of having it done in about a week.  Probably could have had it done if I didn't try to use rubbing alcohol in a wash.  I still need to finish the deck, weather it, build and weather the roof, then install the windows.

Kit Building / Build 001: KC's Jack Em Up Tire Repair

New to modeling.  Here's the first kit I've been working on over the past month.

Lots of mistakes have been made, but I'm learning a lot.  I'm going to try to wrap up the windows and the roof this weekend so I can finally get around to weathering.
