Howdy.

It's a new month. 2022 is flying by.

I unpacked all my Springfield loot and ended up with a total of 24 Jordan Highway Miniatures kits. I'm tickled.

Time to make the doughnuts.

Springfield was great. I found lots of bargains. I survived the bomb cyclone blizzard snow snowstorm. I was urged to do doughnuts on the Big E parking lot but I declined. Maybe next time around I'll spin on the snow.

Have a great day folks.

Some say the Big E blizzard was a bust. Others were glad it was easier to find bargains not having to fight as many of the "unwashed". Me, I'm happy Raymond scoped the Jordan bargains. So far it's been a good show. It hasn't been the best show but hey, the world is falling apart so there's that to keep in mind.

See you there.

We hunted down a place that served clam chowder on the way to Peabody last night. We ended up at Cracker Barrel 🤷‍♂️ Oh well. So it goes.

See you all at the F&SM in a few hours. I'll be the one without a camera. I travelled light this time around.

Selling Kit... / Jordans galore
January 26, 2022, 10:21:41 AM
This isn't my stash of Jordans but thought I might share it with the group.

This isn't a terrible deal but it's not a bargain either.

$1,400 for 72 Jordans including delivery.

Springfield report

The 2022 Show is on!  (Jan. 29th & 30th, 2022)                                                                                    * Update as of 1.26.2022 *   The Amherst Railway Society is recommending that all visitors wear masks inside all buildings.  There is a prediction of snow for Saturday, but sunny and clear on Sunday.  Watch for further announcements as we get closer to the weekend.  Stay tuned!

Brrrrrr

It's going to be an adventure. If you see me there shivering severely, buy me a hot cocoa.

Cold and snowy here. The power went out. Our power lines are not underground so if any ice accumulates -SNAP- and bye bye electric juice.

I had hoped to build some more on the challenge build. I'll have to work by a window when the sun is shining lol.

On a very sad note, I read on the Facebook that Mario Rapinett passed away. He was a great modeler and all around good guy. He did a great deal to showcase many modelers' work on his website. You will he missed greatly, Mario.

Stay safe and warm out there.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Sunday January 2nd of 2022

Howdy,

First Sunday in the new year. I plan to be at church later today. I haven't been in a while. My wife and I came down with COVID earlier in December and had to isolate. Things are on the up-and-up now.

Yesterday we had very strong winds in the area. Many lost power and had trees fall on their homes. Not good. We dodged that mess. We have plenty of very old trees on the property and all we lost was a bunch of dead limbs and branches.

Time to glue something together for an hour or so  ;D

I thought I'd get a head start on this or else I may weasel out of it.

For the 2022 Forum Challenge Build I chose the most excellent offering from CCK, Nemchik's Ole Country Store.

This is a collaboration between CCK and Rusty Rail. The kit comes loaded with detail casting from Rusty Rail and a fine set of structures from CCK.

Here is a look at the kit.

Named after Rich Memchik, a fine fellow, I couldn't pass it up. I originally met Jeff Grove from CCK and Nemchik at The Expo initially held in Peabody, MA. If you were there you cannot forget the adventure it was to not miss the parking lot entrance to the show hotel... Fun times.

Wish me luck. Perhaps I'll make it two-in-a-row for the challenge builds and get this one done by the deadline...

Howdy,

A week ago I visited Rich Nemchik's layout. If you don't know him... He's a great guy. Why he's even got kits named after him (Bar Mills had one and CCK has one).

This is a photo from his layout.

Howdy,

Did I hear the F&SM has an open house coming up? That will be a great deal of fun.

This is the first place winner for the maintenance of way category at the 2021 national narrow gauge convention. I like it a lot.

Howdy,

This is the Best Of Show winner at the 2021 National Narrow Gauge convention recently held in Hickory, NC.

So I tried something different this time around. Even though I brought my DSLR camera to the convention, I did not carry it around my neck live I have in years past. Instead, I left it in the hotel room and used my iPhone to take photos. It was way more convenient and much easier around my neck :-) I did make a few photos of 3 models in the contest room with my DSLR when I was asked as a personal favor to do so.

I hope Craig is doing better at the hospital. I've passed two of those stones years ago and I don't wish that on anyone.

Greetings one and all and welcome back to another National Narrow Gauge Convention. In 2021 it was held in Hickory, NC and I am very glad I attended. I am a bit rusty on this whole forum posting business let alone NNGC postings. The last one I attended was in 2018 in the twin cities in Minnesota.

Here is a photo of the Best Of Show at Hickory, NC. The model was scratch built by Don Railton.

This year I opted not to lug around a heavy DSLR and instead made pretty much all my photos with my iPhone. Therefore, this is going to prove interesting. I'll post more photos as I get them all together. If you want to review past conventions please head on over to my website www.narrowperspective.com for a look.

my narrow gauge convention photos
#18

Greetings from Hickory, NC.

I have a narrow gauge convention hangover.

I won three awards at the convention. I took third place with one of my color photos of a model with a picture of a fabulous red barn on the F&SM. I took second place in the square footer with my FSM JS2 George Bailey's Produce I built back when we had a group build at the original forum (that was so much fun). And, I took first place in color photographs of a model with a picture of a covered bridge on the FS&M.

By the way, the awards were made from pieces of a boxcar from the Lawndale Narrow Gauge Railroad. Pretty nifty.

I now have to drive 11 hours back home.

Last convention day. It's been fun hanging out with familiar faces and meeting new ones.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone.

This cool foundry was in the contest room.

Fridays are a wonderful thing.

Well wishes to Tom's friends and all that need some rest and healing.

Second day of narrow gauge conventioning is over I tried to make it to a clinic but it was cancelled. I made it to the contest room, one home layout tour and I loitered about in the vendor room where there are lots of cool old kits for sale by tons of old trim codgers. At 55 I'm just a spring chicken at this thing. Where is the new blood that all these organizations are supposed to be pumping into the hobby ?

Anyway, here is a sample of what is found in the contest room.
