Thank you for all your compliments.  I do appreciate your kind words.

If anyone is interested, I posted a step by step build on the railroad line forum:

http://www.railroad-line.com/

You can find it on the Mike Chamber's Craftsman's Corner section.

Right now it is on the second page and is titled:

1980 Tom Yorke HO Pool Hall / Bordello Build

BandOGuy:

Glad you like my Youtube videos.

Be sure to check out the Youtube channel:

Jason Jensen Trains

Jason has some great videos and is making new ones all the time.

I stopped making mine about 10 years ago so I could build more models.

A close up of the trim on top.

The bird's next is OK but my O scale bird's nests look better.

The fancy trim is falling apart in this photo.

Judge,

I actually find uploading photos to this forum to be very easy compared to railroad line forums.

I'll try to contribute regularly.

Thanks, Curt.  This was one of my most enjoyable kit builds.

This is the front view.  The sign on the pool hall was found on the internet, downloaded and resized to fit my space.

Kit Building / HO Tom Yorke Pool Hall and Bordello
September 24, 2019, 08:25:19 AM
Back in the late 1970s, Tom Yorke produced a classic model, his Pool Hall and Bordello.

After stalling for 40 years, I finally built his kit and found it to be a great pleasure to build.

The back side shows the excellent stone carving done by Tom.

For the corrugated siding I used Paper Creek Models paper.  When Paper Creek closed down I scanned their sheets into my  computer.  One nice thing about doing it this way is that I can control the color of the rusted metal and I can also use my photo editing program to add signs directly to the printed material.

I thought about making the larger building a hotel but ending up calling it Goldy's Place.

Rolling Stock / Another message test with photo

This is another photo of the same locomotive.

I removed the stock Porter cab and replaced it with the cab from Bachmann's On30 Davenport Gas Mechanical.

I then extended the boiler back to the cab, added another dome and a headlight from an old 1/43rd fire truck.

The inspiration for the model is a small 0-4-0 built by Earl Martin back in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

Earl's version used an HOn3 mechanism.

Earl's model was featured in Finelines, an early Bob Brown publication.

John,

I don't want to high jack your thread, but I thought this video of Jim Schultz's "Cliffs of Insanity" fits right in.

His square foot model won an award for animation.

Here is the link:

I called Brian Block to ask if he built the Corner Lobster Bar.

Indeed he did.

His O scale sawmill won Best in Show and his Corner Lobster Bar won the Gazette Award.

He sent me a photo of all of his awards but could not read them all.

The Gazette will eventually have them all listed.

The more I looked at the Corner Lobster Bar the more I thought only Brian could build that model.

Thank you so much for sharing the photos.

Incidentally, I have uploaded several of my video clinics to Youtube.

You can find the one on Rusty Metal at this link:

Once there you can also find my other video clinics.

John,

Thank you so much for the photos.  I hated to miss the convention but can no longer travel.

The O scale sawmill was built by Brian Block.  It won the Best in Show and the Gazette Award and a few others.

This sawmill was featured in the Gazette a couple of years back.

Brian has won many awards over the years at Narrow Gauge Conventions.

Many people don't recognize his name as he does not do the internet.

I personally find large molds are both hard to handle and tend to be "flat".

Unless you are modeling a cut through a hillside your rock surface will not be basically flat.

I like to build my support for the rock face using blue or pink foam sheets and then applying individual molds.

Your rock is great looking.  I wish I had it myself.

But if I had a large one piece mold of that rock I would end up cutting it into smaller pieces.

In fact, I usually end up cutting up my Bragdon Enterprises molds to make smaller ones.

Thank you so very much, John, for posting these photos.  Almost better than being there in person.  Almost.
