An 1:48 Scale kit made by McKenzie Iron & Steel Co.

I have the bed done.  And most of the hoist.  The hoist can't be finished until the Fordson tractor is done which I'm working on now.

This is were I'm at now.

Comments always welcomed.

Scratchbuilding / Martin G. Jones Enginehouse/Machineshop
February 09, 2018, 09:54:53 AM
This is dedicated to my friend Marty Jones who has helped me over the last 10 years.

I have the plans for the Eureka Springs Enginehouse.  Using them and doing some modifications along the way.
This is being done in O-Scale.
I hope you follow along and comments are always welcome.

I don't think I posted the pictures of machines I'm using but will as progress goes on.  There the ones that Sierra West Scale Models sells.

So here is the first wall I did and I'm working on the 2nd one now.

Scratchbuilding / Building the Lost Mine
May 31, 2016, 09:37:27 AM
This has been called the Hukill or the Maude Munroe Mine.

My version will be called the Lost Mine.

I'm using the plans from Clear Creek Engineering drawn by Don Griffin. The set is 8 pages of drawings of the mine and out buildings.

I made a jig so I could keep the top/bottom and sides square. After putting those pieces together and adding the long diagonal pieces. I moved it to the drawing to add the support pieces.
The outside bents are the same all the inside bents are different because the way they sit against the footing for the headframe.

Wood has been grained then one coat of Silverwood then after drying using Rembrandt pastels 409.7 Burnt Umber and 411.7 Burnt Sienna with alcohol stained the wood.

Actually the mine was a bright orange but in O-Scale it just didn't look right.

The footing in the picture was drawn by my friend Marty Jones. Then he had it 3d printed at the school were he works. Thank you Marty.

Using plans from Western Scale Models Book "Modeling the Mining Industry: Gold and Silver Stamp Mills by Bill Gustafson, and information I found in the NG&SLG article by Dave Clune,I decided to build an O-Scale Cyanide Mill.

First I did a cardboard mock-up to see if it would fit in the area intended. Modifications will be necessary to finish the whole diorama.

Comments are always welcomed.
