You see these along the shores in UK, that's where I got the idea

Morning all,

I can see your pictures, Dave.  Looks like you've been busy.

More workbench time for me today.  Making progress on the current build.  Red Hook Wharf is on a temporary hiatus until I retire and can spend a full day in the garage (while my wife is at work and her car isn't in the garage) cutting out a base for land-based structures.

Have a great one!

Good Morning Dave and all who follow. Dave for whatever reason the photos did not open up.

Yesterday I met up with my daughter and son-in-law to watch Deb race with her dragon boat team. The boat is made up of breast cancer survivors and they take it pretty serious while having a good time. Her boat came in 3rd overall out of 18 boats and the other boat of her team won 1st. I think that is the best finish I have seen them achieve since Deb joined four years ago.

Today I hope to finish up lighting and planting the clothing factory on the layout then it will be time to clean up the mess I have made of my workbench. Hope everyone has a great Sunday and hope to have pictures soon of factory.

I'll start us off with some photos of rough scenery I did yesterday.  The idea is there's a road that starts between the buildings in the background, passing underneath the tracks on a trestle bridge.

I mocked up the contours in cardboard.  One consideration with the topography is allowing for the bridge abutment.

Then I laid down a cardboard piece to represent the road, and worked on the other side, which has tighter clearances.

Then I went upstairs to watch TV.  Today I'll head down, look at what I mocked up yesterday.  If I still like it, first I have to move the track feeders.  Then I'll work out the cuts on the spline and how I'll support the scenery.  I'll use the cardboard for now, but later on replace that with a hardboard fascia.

Beautiful work on the trestle Mark...that's going to be quite a scene. The complexity of the benchwork is certainly intriguing as I try to envision the dramatic scenery to follow.

Hello Mark, what great progress you are making on your empire. You have a lot of mountain building to do, can't wait to see it.

Hello Tom, I'm really enjoying your version of the REA complex here and on the other forum. I'm sorry to hear you say that you won't be doing anymore detailed build threads in the future. I always learn something new while following along on your adventures.

Quote from: MartyO on April 12, 2024, 08:09:56 PMThis build makes me re-think my skillset. Doing what it takes must be your mantra.

Hello Marty, your skillset is on fine display with your wonderful waterfront diorama. I think that we all do what it takes to build our little worlds. It's fun.

Quote from: Mark Dalrymple on April 13, 2024, 01:29:56 AMLooking great, Jeff.

Scuppers and downpipes for the flat roofs with parapet walls might be a nice detail to add.  All the different roofs look awesome.  Variety is the spice of life, as they say.  Fences came out nice and rustic.  The posts look the same thickness as the palings to me - which might make them 6x6's?  Anyway - no matter.  Enjoying your updates.

Cheers, Mark.

Hello Mark, thanks for looking in and for the kind words. You're right about the scuppers and downspouts- I have to look into that.

Quote from: Janbouli on April 13, 2024, 03:13:11 AMDoing a great job Jeff , and thanks for sharing all the steps of the build.

Hello Jan, thank you. I'm just trying to do what I have learned from a lot of fine build threads on this forum in the past.

Quote from: Zephyrus52246 on April 13, 2024, 09:32:46 AMYou've done a great job with this kit.  So many angles, different materials and finishes.  Wonderful.

Hello Jeff, this has been an interesting kit to build. I've had a lot of fun with it. This was my first all fiberboard material kit and I have had to learn a few new things while going through the process, but it's all been a good time.

Quote from: ReadingBob on April 13, 2024, 10:47:52 AMWonderful!  The dog taking a nap is the perfect touch for this scene.  ;)

Hello Bob, you're right, a sleeping dog is a can't miss item.
