Hi All:

Started working on the laser cut framing walls. I did this by the instructions and want to know how you think it looks.

Wall is coated with clear alcohol and then brushed with chalk powders. I used light brown and rust colored chalk powder.

Let me know what you think.

I think the color looks great so far.

You'll have plenty of opportunity to experiment since this kit has like 2 lbs of strip wood lol.

Got some more walls done. I didn't think I was going to like this but it is a pretty coll way to color the walls.

Here's another pic.

I'm following along, too.  The wall coloring looks good - the big issue with this coloring technique is not getting things too dark.

Karl, what's the plan for floors in the shops?  That's something I kinda agonized over in my roundhouse, and wasn't quite happy with my final solution there.

I look forward to seeing your progress on this kit.

I have seen other versions and think your version will turn out great, as usual.

Sort of curious to see how long it takes as well.

Have fun.

Need an opinion on this. This if peeling paint. What color looks best?

Left to right over Black A&I wasH:

All Floquil Colors--- Antique White, Reefer White and Zinc Chromate Primer.

Thanks for your input.

For an utility structure, the red on the right looks best.  Save that weathered blue color for an old house.  (Blue pigment wasn't cheap, so it would be unlikely on a railroad/logging structure.)

Hey Dave:

Thanks for the reply. That is not actually blue it Antique white. I sent the picture to my friend I'm building it for. I will let him make the choice. Also said he could do just A&I wash. No peeling paint.

Hi All:

Got the left wall finished today. It took me about 2 days to finish it. It was kinda warped. I straightened it out by adding A 1/16th X 1/16 piece of wood top and bottom on on the top and bottom stud. Hope it looks OK. I painted my windows to mach the walls. Instructions call for gray on the outside. I used Earth. Actually Krylon Camouflage Tan.

Thanks for sharing your build, Karl.

The more I build these kits the more I want to make them look like the landscape I see daily in my part of the country. It's funny how wood and metal weather differently in different areas of the country. Out here where I live metal roofs end up rusting a deep burgundy. You hardly ever see that in craftsman kit pilot models.

Anyway, your model will turn out fantastic, Karl.

Hi All:

Finished the floor today Here's a few pics. Any word on fixing the original opening page? The floor is not glued down. It is assembled with 3M double faced adhesive tape. I also added a piece of card stock uder the template to stiffen it. I will also not be adding it to the diorama base. All the rest of the Sierra west kits I assembled are just loose so we can install them on the layout as we wish.

Hi Dave:

Bret provide a piece of some type of paper to use for the belt. You cut it to the width of the wheel on the shaft. I used Aleen's Tacky Glue on the belt. It worked quite well. Tried Elmers first and didn't for this application.
