Title: A small slice of Seaview
Post by: trainmanmarsh on February 20, 2014, 03:39:40 PM
Hello everyone

Well work has started on my entry, sort of. I am still stuck trying to choose between three different ideas. I need to build all three eventually for my town of Seaview so I have been building bits and pieces as I decide on my actual entry. Hopefully I can make up my mind in the next day or so and really get something done. The handcar shed is an old model railways kit. I still need to weather the roof a bit and it will be done. The caboose is a AMB kit that i started then lost parts somewhere on my desk or the black hole under it. I am turning it into a track side shack instead. I need to decide weather I am keeping the cupola or not then finish up the roofing and windows.  The bulldozer is a Woodland Scenic's kit. I spend nearly an hour sanding off flash, mold lines and garbage from the parts.  Well, that's it for now. hopefully by my next post I'll have an idea of what I'm going to enter.

Hello again

I have decided that i will be building the Maintenance of way section of Seaview yard along with some of the outlying areas. I cut out a 14" square piece of Styrofoam and laid out my idea. I have lots of details to paint up for this. I have nearly finished what will be the office for the department, the caboose. I have to build the end railings mmake some end doors and put windows in the cupola and it will be done. I still have a couple other buildings to make up to go on this. My biggest concern is the ground cover. I need to find some dirt that isn't buried under ice and snow.

I managed to complete a little more on the MOW office. I made up the handrails from some brass wire and a piece of strip wood. I made up the end doors as well. I cut two doors out of a sheet of siding and trimmed it with strip wood. I got them glued into place. Today's project is to finish up the cupola windows and i can call this piece done. Then I need to tackle the next building, the yard tower. I have to decide whether I have a kit that I like for it or if it will end up being a scratch build. Either way i know I'll have fun.

Seaview's MOW office is finished unless anyone can think of something I forgot to add. Up next is either the yard tower or a storage building. Either way I'll have fun building it.

This is coming along nicely. I like what you have accomplished so far. This is going to be a challenging contest. Keep the pictures coming.

Good afternoon.
I managed to get another building made up for the diorama. This is JL Innovative's F.S. Jones Painting. I forgot to take pictures as I went along because I was having too much fun building it. I ended up replacing the wood base for the concrete pad with styrofoam. i like the rougher texture. I have no idea what business is in here but I like the look of it and I can figure out its name and purpose later. I have some signs to put on the side and I need to weather the roof and add a smoke pipe for the heating somewhere. My next project is the yard tower. i just have to figure out the colors I'm going to use on it.

hello

time for a small update. I haven't completed much on this due to a few other interfering projects but I have finally started on the biggest building on the diorama, the switch tower. It is an RDA kit. i have started to replace the stairs with some nice rickity looking wooden ones. i have also installed an upstairs floor so i can add a interior. Now to get started installing all of the stair treads and railings then its on to windows and the interior.

Looking good. I am sure you had as much fun doing the roof as I did with the New Haven tower kit from N-Scale Architects. Jim

Hello again

With the deadline speeding towards me with gathering speed, I figured I better get back to work on my entry. I decided to reduce the footprint of the diorama and leave out one building. it was just getting to be too much and I want to finish this in time. Today I painted the new base, glued the track on and got it painted as well. i hope to get the track ballasted and the first layer of ground cover in before I go to bed tonight.

Well the time has come to add the final pictures of my entry. I had a lot of fun building this. I hope everyone else enjoyed the journey too. So with out further delay, the pictures. To start off, an overview of the entire diorama. (https://scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/t1.0-9/10151922_10201894804557208_424434757_n.jpg)
As we can see it isn't a very busy day around Seaview Yard. Better Late than Never Railroad #45 is moving some cars around. The track crew are getting ready for a tie replacement job down the line a bit. It looks like there may be a bit of commotion between the guys, lets get a closer look.

So lets meet the crew. Strting on the right leaning up against the truck popping back a cold one is Joe Rinksworth, a rather boring guy so we won't pay much attention to him. Next in the yellow jacket is the foreman, Mr, Bossman. He is busy trying to stop a possible situation between the two youngest members of his crew, Fred  and Bob who spent last night watching the MTV Jackass movie and are currently trying to replicate something the saw on it. it looks like young bob is going to have a splitting headache. all of this because of that old saying "when I nod my head, you hit it."Why don't we look away and see the rest of the area.

And before we leave and let the voters stuff the ballot box full we take a look at #45 once again shoving a boxcar down to the freight house. I hope you enjoyed your visit to my small slice of Seaview. Hopefully if I remember to water it on occasion it might grow into a whole layout but what fun would that be.
