The stonework and the weathering of the wood is gorgeous.

That's an interesting structure. Is that a scratch build or someone's kit? If a kit, who makes it?

Thanks!
The kit is from Campbell.

Wonderful build Gaffen.  I built this one a long, long time ago.  I love the stonework.   :)

Hi Gaffen,

I also built this model about 50 years ago.  You did a nice job on the weathering.

Really nicely executed kit build.  Make me want to start the one I have on the shelf even more.

I too admire the stonework.  I am assuming you started out with the plastic sheet with the engraved stone pattern - can you elaborate what steps you too to arrive at these very nicely modeled stone walls on the boiler house?  I would sincerely appreciate your sharing your process.

Thanks, the stone walls are quite simple.
I started by glueing the walls to the cardboard sub base with water based contact cement (like Eileens tacky glue).
I then filled the corners with Tamiya putty and formed them with a Xacto blade.
I primed the walls with gray spray primer before I started to paint the stones with various beige and grey colors.
The mortar is dried clay that I crushed to a fine powder befort mixing it with PVA glue and water, I then apllied it over the walls and wiped it away from the tops of the stones.

Thanks a lot for that tutorial.  Sounds simple, but the result is great.  To make sure I understand it right:  Am I correct that you assemble the "box" before you do any priming & painting (since you work the putty into the corner, and then do the paint)?  Also, regarding the dried and ground clay, will any type of modeling clay do?  Or should I look for something specific?

I assemble the box and fills all joints before painting it.
The clay is regular artists ceramic stone pottery clay (of the gray type) that had air dried, not being burned.
It gives a good impression of mortar.

Hi Graffen:

I have that kit around here some where. I was always one of my favorite Cam[bell kits. You have done just an exquisite job with this kit. I love your colors and mild weathering. Also your stonework is just great.
