Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Thank's Craig. FSM Wall's
March 26, 2021, 11:11:14 AM
Hi Guy's. Thanks Craig for getting those wall's available. I can tell you window's do not fit as ordinary kit's. Most of George's sit on the back side and I can not find anything to fit inside. Unless anyone hear know's of window's that do? My tannery has the window's needed but I could not find anything to fit inside of the casting's until I remembered I Had window's from a old RDA brick wall sections. I trimmed the flanges off and cleaned up the original FSM casting's and they fit. So I got a hold of Stephen Milley at www.rail-scale-models.com as they took over RDA. And he said he would list them for me yesterday. :)

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Dark Dirt ?
March 13, 2021, 11:56:21 AM
Well we hear this topic a million times. So yesterday I was able to get to the shed area and skim some dirt off the ground and I baked it for a hour at 350 and then shift it threw a sifter and then my favorite pair of leggs pantyhose and noticed the dirt is so dark compare to everyone else's. Even Dave's and he lives in the same state. I notice yesterday John's layout was a perfect color around his Diorama setting. As with Karl's O and many other's. Is there something I need to add or do ? I got some bank run gravel to try today. The sand pile is still to frozen to get any, And I have pitcher mound dirt to try today as well.  Like all say. If you don't ask you won't know. Thank you!!!

( Intimidation )  Is one of my most terrified word. I been watching and building layout's since my son's birth in 1989. And I will tell you honestly that I'm terrified to to a $300-$1,000 Plus dollar kit and destroy it. I only built plastic and resin kit's like DPM and other's. I found 3 tote's in the furnace room in the basement and was full with kit's and stuff I didn't even remember having. My wife says I have a hoarding problem with this hobby. She said something that really hit home. (I'm never gonna finish this layout or even come close to building everything before I die and then what?) Me and the kid's will have to figure this out. I try my best to do as much as I can but really (WOW!!!) I been following Postalkarl and Karl O since the early 2000's on the other forum's and They really got me hooked.
Karl O say's he's getting to the point it's really getting harder to do things because of his hand's and stuff. And
Postalkarl well he's still 24 :) and no sign's of slowing down. I always wanted to visit George's layout but never did and I only live in New Hampshire. I look at something in front of me and just stare at it and then maybe decide or not to do something next. It should be just do it!!!  May 8th 2017 we were hit head on and put myself and wife in hospital over a week for me and 2 month's for my wife of 37 years and 41 year's of her friendship. So we were laid up for most of 2017 and My wife just started to walk in 2020 and still goes to therapy twice a week. And for me I had 11 rib's broken and sternum broke and hit and perm damage the vagus nerve in my neck for my hearing and swallowing. which suck's to swallow and most never able to keep food down. Can't even eat out because scared of choking in public.
Without this forum and friend's I honestly would of gave up. You guy's are a BLESSING and you don't even know it.  As they say (Life goes on) But our's is so short. At my age it's even shorter lol. Now we have today's hero's here and you all know who you are. And Thanks for your support and knowledge of this hobby. That's why I stick with this hobby. So That's what Intimidation mean's to me. February 28, 2021, 03:38:44 PM
Hi Guy's, I took the bull by the horns and started a first wood build. I chose The J Keen's and I hope it work's out? I never built a wooden model yet and here goes. I started yesterday and I Spray painted the insides black and outside gray primer. Then I used Hunterline Blue gray stain as the main coat When dried I used a piece of sponged I used Folkart Ice Coffee and Skimmed a light coat over the Hunterline stain. As it was drying I did the windows in Apple Barrel Arbor Green.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / India Ink
February 25, 2021, 09:00:16 AM
Hi Guy's, I found 2 bottles of Higgins india black ink in my stash. I made up a 16 oz of 91 % Alcohol and it looks like crap. I dumped in a bowl to use and everything is on the bottom separated. Is there a shelf life for this stuff? 20 years plus was in a train tote. I was wondering what stuff you great molder's use and your mixture for 16oz bottles or I can get 32oz if I can find them that size? Thanks Dennis

Layout Tours / Lake's Region RR Part 1
September 18, 2020, 08:20:02 PM
Ok guy's it official. I started my little 13' x 20' world oh Model RR. I built the Bench work at 50" and I put plywood down and after talking to a few of the modeler's here for my idea of having depth. I then took the plywood off and installed cross brace's and reapply the plywood and then I notice after my wife came down and asked how I was gonna reach the top of the plywood. it was about 54" and I was like heck no. I tore the bench work apart and cut the leg's and rebuilt it to the height I liked. And I also put in the turntables for my two roundhouse. The track plan will be something else. Not sure where to start but I will start somewhere tomorrow. I would like to run 2 main lines and 1 line on the middle leg and have it tie into the other two run's. Phew Thanks Dennis

I finally cleaned out my storage room and added wall's over the basement cement and painted it. I started to build the frame work for my layout. The room is 13 x 20 and layout is 13 x 17 and it has 3 Peninsula's the end Peninsula's are twins 13' x 30" and with a 5' turn around at the end's and the middle is 3' by 8', I been buying stuff for 30 years so when I retire I can start my layout finally after we got our kid's out of the house lol. I been building my base's for my Fine scale Miniature's and my South River Modelworks never mind the the other companies. I counted about 60 kit's that I found.  My question is How in the heck do you guy's fit all those kit's on the layout? I cut about 25 foam base's and it's taking up about half of the layout without track or anything else. Please beat me up if needed. But I might have to get rid of some (LOT'S) of kit's? Or if I add on to the house I can move layout to the new section? I really could use some advice Please...Dennis. P.S. I'm trying to resize pic's to show room.

General Information / 2x4 or 1x4
December 01, 2019, 04:28:02 PM
Well,  I went to lowes today for some stuff and I looked at the lumber. 2x4x8 are $2.62 and 1x4x8 are $6.82 each what do you guys use for your layout? That's quite the difference if you building a good size layout? Thinking of 12x20 and was wondering what to use? Or rip 3/4 plywood? Dennis
