Hey all,

I am working on another scratchbuilt Baltimore building. This time it is a corner store that has fallen on hard times. I will post my progress here.

Scratchbuilding / Ellicott Brothers Hardware
October 07, 2021, 06:51:42 AM
All,

Here are some finished photos of my latest scratchbuild, the Ellicott Bros. hardware complex. The masonry is sheets from Monster Modelworks. The windows and doors are from Tichy. The detail parts come from Railroad Kits, BEST and Rusty Rail. Truck is a Sylvan. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Matt

I recently completed this diorama of an Amoco Station in Baltimore. The structure is scratchbuilt using cardboard for the station itself and modified Magnuson brick castings for the rowhouses. The prototype that inspired this model still stands in West Baltimore and is pictured at the end. That photo is from https://www.kilduffs.com/GAS.html

I spent the last couple of weeks building this little scratchbuild. It was instigated by the recent challenge build associated with the HO Scale Customs Podcast and associated community. It fits within the perimeters of the challenge(barely), but grew to become an homage to one of my favorite buildings on the F&SM. The building, located along the Northfield river, was once the Pratt and Lambert building, but is now Hilton's Fishing Dock. Mine is similar as a frame structure on top of a stone arch, but I allowed for my own creative juices, combined with the restrictions defined by the challenge, to design and build the rest. I hope you all enjoy seeing it as much as I enjoyed building it.

I will begin by apologizing to all who will be offended that I cut up an antique. But, while it is now heavily modified, I am pleased to have a vintage piece that can be exhibited on a realistic pike. So: Sorry. Not sorry.  ::)

Here is the unmodified Plasticville Billboard:

And the back:

Removing the cast plastic feet:

Filling the back with Bondo:

And sanding it flush:

I am currently in the process of building a pair of modules for the club module layout of the Four County Society of Model Engineers (FCSME). The modules will represent an area of Baltimore City known as Woodberry and a specific complex within that neighborhood, the historic Poole and Hunt Foundry (pictured above).

I am terribly slow at these things, so I expect this to proceed at my usual snails pace. Case in point, I began the process of designing these modules in 2012. So.... :o

Let's get started.

The Official F&SM Layout Thread! / F&SM Trolley
November 14, 2016, 08:46:09 AM
All,

At one time there was a static, non-operational trolley on the F&SM. If I remember correctly, it was located on a bridge that terminated onto the aisle. I believe that it was later removed from the layout. I seem to remember some photos and discussion of this detail in a magazine (MRR?) but I can't seem to find it. I may be "mis-remembering" the whole thing, but if anyone has any information about where these photos may be located please let me know.

Thanks,
Matt

I will be kitbashing this Walthers Row House plastic kit for the Build Challenge 2016:

My plan is to modify the kit to more closely resemble a group of Baltimore Row Houses. I would like to grow the group from 2 units to 4. Ultimately this group will form a portion of a module that I am (slowly) constructing for the Four County Society of Model Engineers Layout. This will be my first build thread of any kind, so we will see how it goes....
