Back from a visit to the GI Doc, with a colonoscopy scheduled for May.  The joys of aging....

No work in the train room today, should get back to it tomorrow.

Well, fasting blood test in the morning, then late breakfast.  I was lacking in motivation for much of the day, but finally got down to the train room this afternoon. I touched up the paint on the Merchants Row bash, and then picked out a storefront that I'll use for the building next to the Union Hall.  I need to build a new door entry for it, and that's fun kitbashing to do.  I found a good Tichy double door & transom with sidelights that will work well for this.  I need to add a raised floor in the recessed doorway, and then build the side windows for the recessed door.  Fun stuff...  I probably won't get back to this until Thursday, I have a Dr Appt tomorrow AM and then I'm giving a talk on Gettysburg to the local retiree group.

I really like that mocked-up town, both the mock-ups, and the result.

I filled in the gaps between the bay and the front wall, and started touching up the paint:

More trim painting to do today...

We lost power this morning at 5:00, just got it back at 10:00.  Considering the number of outages in southern NH, that's pretty good!  I was able to light the gas range with matches, so at least we had breakfast (scrambled eggs) and tea.  But now I can make coffee...

The problem I have with tab-and-slot (when it's done precisely) is it's really hard to bash the model.  When the tabs & slots aren't well aligned, they are really difficult to assemble.   So it's good to hear this one is on the 'precisely' side.

About 2" of spring snow in SE NH, another couple inches expected before it changes to rain here.  Further north, the snow-to-rain transition will be delayed.

Wife and I went to see Dune 2 yesterday, so that pre-empted work on the layout.  I should get downstairs today.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Re: Friday 12 March

We went to see Dune 2 this afternoon.  We were the only 2 people in the (small) theater.  The movie made about as much sense as the book (without reading all the appendixes.)

This is a new kit maker for me, so I'll be interested to see how you build it, as well as your comments on the design and manufacturing.

On the flight home from Munich Friday, we were in Premium Economy, with only one choice of beer ("Beck's".)  The aircraft was an A-380 (those things are HUGE), and the upper deck is all business and 1st class.  I asked the flight attendant "Any chance you could steal me a wheat beer from upstairs?"  A couple minutes later she handed me an Erdinger, boy that tasted good.

I'm mostly over jetlag, and have a bit of put-away still to do.  The fridge is restocked, and I need to put the corned beef into the crockpot.  Then I'll see about restarting work on the block building I was bashing from the Magnuson/Walthers Merchants Row II kit.

This was our 7th or 8th trip to Spain.  And I've been to Oklahoma (because the Army sent me there, Ft Sill for officer training.)  The only states I haven't visited are the Dakotas, Alaska, Hawaii and Wisconsin.

Next most frequent place I've been to is Amsterdam, mostly on business trips.  About 2/3 of my foreign travel was for business (international standards committees are a great racket to get your employer to send you overseas.)  On about half of those, wife joined me and we went on vacation before or after the meeting.  The most memorable (for both good and bad reasons) would probably be Russia, which we visited around 2005 at the height of US/Russia relations.

But I think our foreign travel days are about over, wife had a really hard time physically on this trip (leg and back problems.)  Sigh...  So many other places on my "places to go" list....

We got back from Spain last night, so today is all those things you have to do when you come home from a 2-week vacation.  The dogs were very happy to see us, they'll be extra clingy for a couple of days.

Yeah, that looks good.  A water tank on the roof would add interest, be appropriate, and probably add balance to the scene, too.
