This named after my wife's father.
I'm doing the machinery first. While I figure out exactly how I want the mil, mine & hoist house done.
So if like please follow along.
First up was the Clean-out Barrel & Sluice Box.
Next up was the Rock Crusher
The 10-Stamp Battery
3rd picture Tappets in place stamps ready to placed.
4th picture Stamps are done
5th picture the Tappets &Stamps together on the shafts.
Next to come will be the Cams.
Comments always welcome.
Great looking details Jerry.....I'll be looking in on your build. :)
Thanks Greg glad your following along!!
Jerry
Jerry,
Absolutely stunning work and weathering. I'm so jealous. Fantastic job sir.
Tom ;D
Thanks Tom its really appreciated.
Jerry
Wow, that looks amazing, Jerry. What scale is this?
I agree with everyone else WOW just WOW.
I forgot to ask Jerry.....is this a kit or a scratch build. I have a bunch of hard rock mines that could benefit from a stamp mill. So far this looks like a good candidate. :)
Thanks Vince its O-Scale.
Curt its appreciated thank you.
Gregory its a kit made by Western Scale Models. The buildings will be scratch that's why I posted it here.
Western Scale Models was bought out by Wild West Models he has all these kits in HO, S, O scales look at his web site. He really has some nice stuff if your into mining.
Once again thank you all for taking a look.
Jerry
Thanks Jerry.....I'll look into Wild West. :)
This is were I stand with the Stamp Battery.
1st Picture view from the back with Cams and Latch Fingers in Place
2nd Picture of the Latch Finger. An in case your wondering what they do. When they need to change a stamp or Cam they hold the Tappet up and out of the way.
3rd Picture of the front with the deck in place for maintenance.
Jerry,
As usual, absolutely beautiful. I appreciate the explanation of how the latch fingers work. I really hope your building will have a removable roof or other way to allow the interior to be viewed easily.
Jerry
Fantastic work! I have the HO version of the stamp mill on my build list.
Jerry thank you very much. It's great to have you following along.
John wonderful to have a nice compliment from you.
I'll be watching for when you do the HO version.
Jerry
Picture of the amalgamation Tables,
This just about finishes this one. Need to do the slurry on the tables and water line.
Next up the Ore Feeders.
Jerry,
I'm finding this thread really interesting and educational to boot. Not only are you displaying your usual beautiful modeling skills, we are all getting a glimpse into the process involved in separating mineral from the ore. Is it safe to assume you are going to model the complete line of machinery? Maybe you could provide a brief explanation of how this process works for those of us that are interested but not completely up to speed.
Jerry
Thanks for the nice compliment.
Yes I will be doing all the machines for the Mill.
Actually I'm learning as I go along on how this all works.
When the Ore comes in at the top. Its dumped an goes over a Grizzly.
The fine pieces go through and into an Ore Bin the larger pieces get crushed by the Rock Crusher.
After the Ore Bin they go into the Ore Feeder which sit right behind the Stamps.
From the stamp the ore being crushed is made into a slurry.
I can add to this after I see how this gets to the Wilfrey Tables.
Jerry
Start of the Two Ore Feeder
Just a picture of the metal parts blacken but not buff yet.
And the wood laser pieces not stained but the burn marks removed.
A small update. The one is just the stand the other one with the hopper.
Still need to do all the mechanical pieces under the hopper!
While I'm finishing up the Ore Feeders. I made a mock up out of foam core to see how big the the mill will be.
One Ore Feeder done one to go. The arm that is sticking up eventually gets connected to the middle stem of the stamp mill.
When the tappet hits it the ore feeder opens and sends more ore to the stamp.
Jerry,
This is looking better every time you post some photos. Your explanation of the workings of the mill components really helps me understand at a base level what I am seeing and how everything should work together. Without a scale in the earlier photos I couldn't tell how big this structure is going to be. Can you share the overall dimensions?
Jerry
Your making great progress. I'm really enjoying your thread. I find all the mine equipment fascinating - there was a lot of great engineering behind these facilities. I will be following along.
Well done with the ore feeder Jerry. 8)
You sir are a artist.

Jerry thanks for the compliment. I'm learning as I go on how everything is suppose to work. Its very interesting.
Size 13' wide x 27" deep x 15" high.
That could change but it gives me idea on how much space I need.

Jerry
The two Ore Feeders done.
WOW Jerry.
Thanks so much Curt really like your compliment!
Jerry
Just so you don't think I spend all my time at the beach. Just finished putting the grain on the wood its ready for staining! I'm using Minwax Natural Stain. Then I'll start a side while I wait for my paint for the Wilfley Tables.
An update from the mountains somewhere.
1st of 13 walls.
13 walls to build eh! Sounds like my type of kit to build.
-Steven
This is quite an endeavor Jerry. Those ore feeders came out fantastic!
Thanks for looking Steven glad you want to build one of these they are fun!
Bob always glad to see you post on a project thanks for the compliment.
Jerry
A quick update on the Mill. All the walls are framed.
They are so fragile mainly because they are so big.
So all the walls are not in the picture but it gave me an idea of how it will look.
Next will be the siding and the Wilfley Tables.
That looks so great, I'd be tempted to stop there and leave it as 'structure under construction'!
dave
That looks incredible. I would be afraid the walls wouldn't match up.
Jerry,
The entire build is fantastic and the craftsmanship is top notch. Extremely well done sir.
Tom ;D

Jerry
I just got caught up on your thread. Fantastic work! I like the idea of the build in progress to show off all that great interior work. I will be following along.
Thanks John appreciate the compliment and you looking in.
Jerry
These are the parts for the 2 Wilfley Tables.
Thought while I was waiting for the stain to dry on the siding I would start the tables.
Here's what you all have been waiting the mechanism that took three tries to get it right.
Doesn't look like much but there 16 pieces to it.
Hopefully the rest of it won't take so long to do.
Wow, that is amazing looking.
Thanks Curt a very nice compliment.
Jerry
Managed some time at the bench today and got the following done.
1st one is the mechanism that moves the table forward & backwards.
2nd is the rollers the table sits on.
Next pictures should be of the completed table.
Then one more to make.
Hey Jerry:
looking great so far.
Karl
Thanks for the compliment Karl.
Always a pleasure to have you look in.
Jerry
Yes patience does pay off. It only took 3 times to get this together.
Long story.
The tabletop still needs more weathering which will happen when it's in its happy home.
One more to go.
Top notch Jerry.
You are doing a fantabulous job.
Curt thanks for the nice compliment.
Jerry

Jerry
Just a quick up date on where I'm at.
The two tables are done. They still need weathering after they are in the building.
You can now see the collection boxes have been added at the bottom of the table and along the left hand side.
Next up is the siding for the building.
Incredible detail work.
I wonder if an active table would be so rusty... Love the build, just speculating on how the prototype would look when it's operating.
I suppose somewhere there's an active stamp mill with Wilfley Tables.
dave
Curt thanks for the nice comliment.
Jerry
Dave I'm not done with the weathering yet but don't forget there was water running down those tables constantly.
There not as rusty as picture shows either but I figure when I put the final weathering on them it will under the lights in the mill.
I'm glad that your following along and like it so far thanks for the comment.

Thanks for following up Dave. I'm still in the learning part of this. There isn't to many that have built the Mill or never posted pictures of them.
Jerry
The first wall is sided. It's not that bright in real life.
One picture is inside to show what the framework really looks like.
The windows are just to fill in the holes. Doors still need to be made.
I'm inclined to think the interior of a mill would look more weathered/stained, from the steam and particularly the dust from the stamps.
Outside looks great, I'd try some A&I wash on the inside to grunge it up some :-)
dave
Looks great Jerry.

A small update on the Mill Machines
The boiler is done except for the weathering which I hope will bring out all the detail parts.
Also the Steam Engine is done.
You never fail to amaze me with the museum quality of your modeling.
Curt that is just such a nice compliement thanks you so much!
Jerry
I didn't like the way the Boiler was going to fit inside. So I made a small building outside to put the Boiler in.
The framework is done.
Just a quick up date so that follow can see where I'm at.
Very nice Jerry.
Agreed very nice job Jerry.....Dennis
Jerry,
Great modeling. The flyball governor on the stationary engine is pretty cool. I'm a little jealous to see how much detail you are able to have in O scale.
Thanks Curt its appreciated.
Dennis thanks its nice to have you guys make great comments.
As always Jerry thank you. Yes the detail in O-scale is really nice. But remember the bigger the scale the more you have to pay attention to the detail.
Again thanks a lot guys!
Jerry
Finally progress on the Mill. The two walls on the right are not glued in place. Otherwise it would be like working on a ship in a bottle.
Next will be the floors and then the machines.
Jerry
Jerry,
Beautiful modeling! Exterior board colors have a nice subtle color variation. I like the interior best, color variations and brownish tones mimic the colors that develop as wood ages naturally. Really looking forward to seeing how the beautiful machinery fits together inside.
Jerry thanks for the nice compliment.
Yes the wood aging coloring goes with the dust on the walls also.
Down the bottom you can't see it in this picture its really dirty as the dust from the machines would filter down more.
Jerry
That's going to be a awesome looking structure when complete. It will be a focal point on your layout.
Hey Jerry:
Wow!!!! really looks just beautiful. Great job.

3rd level is were the Ore Feeders go after the Ore Bins are built.
The picture is were the stamps go that floor gets done later.
The posts are for the 4th level floor were the bins go.
Jerry,
You have been busy. It looks great. Board by board modeling cannot be beat for realism, though it does seem to take longer than forever. I'm waiting (not so) patiently to see how the remaining machinery fits into the building.
Thanks for the nice comment Jerry. Tell you the truth it does take longer and I'll be glad when the remaining levels are done.
So I can mount the machinery,
Jerry

There not glued either until the belts are are done and the equipment is in.

I've decided after doing all the cross pieces on this thing. I'm going to leave it under construction! Detailing the outside with lumber and the inside pieces getting ready to install.
I hope you all think this would be a good idea!

Wow it's been some time since I posted.
But with my fingers being numb!!
I have my surgery on the 23 of August. Thank God.
This is my first time with metal roof panels so comments are welcomed.
Don't worry I have thick skin so please offer suggestions! ;)
For a first effort, I think those panels look great!
Thanks Craig it's a appreciated.
I think I made it to monochromatic though.
Well hopefully lesson learned the next one should be better.

Jerry
One way of avoiding any similarity between the panels is to divide them into three (or more) separate batches. One receives a heavy paint treatment, medium and light... and so on.
Still, I think you've done well as the roof doesn't draw attention to itself. My eye stays on that awesome interior.
Jerry, the corrugated iron look good and is convincing. It matches the oldness of the rest of the mill. Nice job as usual.

But its worth the effort!
Jerry,
I think the rafters look great, tedious work but much needed process to provide for a sturdy roof.
That's a lot of panels to glue fown, but will be a showstopper when completed. Nice work.

No suggestions necessary Jerry.....the corrugated roofing looks great. 8)
