Hi all, I happened to change scales recently, from HOn3 to On30.
I have already built the kit in HO scale:
I then got this as a gift from a friend, the original Yorke kit of the Pool hall and Bordello in O scale, he had bought it 40 years ago...

The basic foundation was quickly put up:
I then decided to design an interior for the Saloon part.
I did the CAD work in Fusion 360:
I printed it on my Anycubic Photon S with water soluble resin:
I then assembled the parts:
I painted them with a mix of Tamiya colors:
That's the last of the interior pieces printed and painted for the Saloon, except for the chandelier...
I think it'll be nice when finished.
Nice work Graffen.....I love all the details that can be applied in the larger scales. 8)
Very nice interior.
Graffen.....
Just terrific ! ! ! ! I especially like the board on the roof from the cornice falling apart, Very cool.
Thanx
Bob
I primed the floor with Vallejo IDF sand:
I had some wallpaper printed out and glued it to the walls, it wrinkled nicely vertically, which made it more life like:
It's getting there:
Fantastic work! This is going to be a real show stopper. ;)
That looks great.
Thanks! I really feel that I have to go the extra mile on this kit.
These first generation Pool hall kits are very rare today, and I quite prefer it over the new kit with all the changes they made on how it looks.
Hey Graffen:
Wow very well done.
Karl
Thanks Karl!
I weathered the floor a bit and glued the interior in place.

Now for the rest of the detailing. 8)
I haven't decided which type of light fixtures to use yet.
Need some mirrors behind those shelving units! Looks great!
dave
Graffen,
Will follow along as your work on this classic kit.
The interior is great looking too.
Tommy
Hey Graffen:
Love the interior. Just beautiful.
Karl
Graffen,
The Yorke kits are really well done although I've never built one myself, I've seen many on other layouts. Love your barber interior, very well done.
Tom ;D
Thanks!
I've started to paint the outside walls.
I use a variety of Vallejo and MIG paints.

I have just added the enamel panel line wash on the bricks.
That is a really nice looking stone wall.
Beautiful rock work. The coloring reminds me of Brian Nolan's work.
Mark
Thanks! :)
This is how it looks now after all the filters and dry brushing is finished.
I used a lot of pictures of masonry buildings in Colorado as an inspiration.
I'm quite satisfied with the result.
Stone coloring is excellent!
The coloring on the walls is just fantastic!
Agreed. That's top shelf work. Great job!
--Opa George
I started on the plethora of windows and doors for the project.
These older Grandt line castings are good!
Not a flash to be seen anywhere.
I primed them with Badger Stynylrez primer before painting them an old wood color.
Then I used hairspray as a chipping layer before painting them offwhite.
The chipping was done rather lightly with a small brush.
A dark grey pin wash from MIG was then applied.

The glass I use is microscope slide covers. They are really good to use when you have an interior to show, as there's no distortion.
They are quite delicate though, so I divide them in separate panes to avoid big sheets that may break easier.
Very nice chipping effect. Subtle but significant...some weathering "gurus" overdo it, IMO...I think you nailed it!
John
I started the staining of the wood.
I use Saman #202 water based stain.
When dry it will get a light wash of dark grey as well.
I think it makes a good old wood color.
I've assembled the Saloon entrance.
The wood parts are weathered to match the plastic.
The slide cover glass really shows its value here.
I'm really satisfied with how the build is progressing.
Very nice job on the doors and windows.
Fantastic patina
Thanks!
Made the panel over the entrance.

It's really fun to build in O scale!
I made a window frame for the door as the plastic part was missing.
I even overlap joined it....

Excellent work with the peeling paint look. 8)
Great looking details and really like the stone work.
Hey Graffen:
Love you stonework and the weathering on your entrance. Very well done.
Karl
Thanks!
I've started on the front of the Pool hall:
All is built up with wood, except from the door frame and doors.
It's looking great. Fun to watch. Mark
Hey Graffen:
That's coming along very nicely.
Karl
Those look great.
Thanks. :D
I've finished the front facade for the Pool hall.
It's just some small details to add.

Magnificent wood work.

Magnificent wood work.
Thanks!
The real glass windows really adds to the real look I think.
I've started building the upstairs walls of the pool hall/saloon/hotel:
The framing is built up of wood, the siding on the back wall is scribed sheet.
The side walls are to be corrugated metal and the front wall board by board.
Looks good so far.
Weathered whitewash.

Interesting technique. I do envy the detail that can be done in O scale modeling.
New video on my channel!
How to paint peeling paint on wood.

Michael,
Looks fantastic. Your methods are easy and the results are perfect. Thanks for sharing.
I'm definitely going to try them.
Tom ;D
Hey Graffen:
Very well done so far. Can't wait to see more.
Karl
Started construction of the upstairs interior on the Saloon.
All made out of matte board.
The doors are not 3 dimensional, but have the relief painted on.
The floor and inner walls are removable downward so I can glue the roof in place and still be able to service the interior.
With some 3D printed furniture and nice lighting, it will look quite convincing.
Outstanding!
Very nice of your friend to gift you a genuine Tom Yorke. I heard Yorke was still doing some work but in large scale only.
The Pool Hall and Bordello most definitely have that railroady feel that looks great on just about any layout.
Jaime
Looks great so far.
hey Graffen:
Looks great so far. I assume you be adding interior details.
Karl
Looks great so far Graffen..... 8)
Progressed a little bit on the construction.
Everything is built so the upper part of the building is relatively easy to disassemble from the main building, the upper floor and the Saloon interior needs to have easy access to the lighting.
I had to change the construction of the porch roof a bit to make it more durable.
Here the upper floor is lifted off.
The upper interior can also be lifted out to access the saloon interior.
It took a few adjustments to make every connection tight, but not too good ....
Very nice.
Thanks! :D
I've applied the tar paper roofing.
I used surgical tape that I painted rust red.
I also weathered the corrugated metal wall.
The next step is to add the roof cap and tar seals and to build the various chimneys and pipes and then weather the roof.
Looks great so far , love the veranda.
Hey Graffen:
Great coloring and weathering. Just love it.
Karl
Graffen...........
Your aged flaking white paint is just terrific.
I need to work on a way to duplicate that idea......
It is amazing how much stuff was painted white over the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. I remember asking my dad when I was a kid what color he was going to paint something around the house.......... including parts of the house.
I recall thinking as a kid how boring white was. After a while I stopped asking.
Thanx
Bob
I don't know how common some other colors were in the US in the 19th century.
Here the most common were white, oxide red, black, green and ochre.
It was also common to make a light blueish color by mixing lamp black with white...
Michael
Just caught up. Super build! I was very interested in the 3D resin parts you produced.
Jim D
What are you using to glue the interior walls together?
In the 19th century, I think that wallpaper was very common even in some offices. But your Swedish color choices for painted walls sounds right.
dave
I use UV hardening glue actually.
It really makes it easy to fix the parts in the right position before activating it.
A bit of progress.
The roof over the small building is built and painted.
The paper is the one that was supplied in the kit just to get some variation from the main roof
(https://i.imgur.com/kfJVzj1l.jpeg)
Hey Graffen:
Looks really great. Love your roofing.
Karl

Still have to glass the upstairs windows, add furniture and lights, rafter ends and final weathering.... 8)
Excellent modeling.
Hey Graffen,
the stonework loos especially nice and also the other finishes also look good.
Perfect weathering and colors , the roofs and wood look absolutely great.
hey Graffen:
beautifully done. great colors and weathering.
Karl
