Kit Building / FOS freebie and new tools
December 23, 2023, 11:28:06 AM
This is the most recent "freebie" from FOSscale models.  Doug knows if he makes a free kit I like, he'll be getting a $50+ order from me.   ;D  I was more interested in seeing his new 3D printed details than the kit, but it's a nice looking little building.  The usual stuff in the bag, siding, pre cut windows (yea!), laser cut sides/windows, some trim and one (!) piece of bracing stock, roofing and the 3D details.  the sign/picture sheet includes an instruction diagram, which I don't think I've ever seen in one of his free kits before.

Morning, all.

Very foggy here this morning.  Supposed to get up to 56 degrees later, very warm for nearly Christmas.

Having my favorite breakfast, pie.  My wife would say there's more Cool Whip than pie, but yeah.   :D

Started a kit yesterday, will start a thread later.  I have a Ring doorbell I might install today as well since it's so warm out.

Let's see if I can post a pic.

Morning, all.

Up bright and early this morning to start my four day weekend.

Some "issues" arose last weekend when running trains with the grandkids, a couple of locos which worked fine the week before not running correctly, and a wire to rail solder joint that came apart (causing a derailment).  But I feel more like building a kit, which I haven't done in awhile.  Maybe I'll start a build thread after reviewing how to post pictures.

Our Christmas was last weekend, so I don't need to do any last minute shopping.   ;D

Morning all.

My grandson is drawing a monster truck next to me while his twin is making a ruckus in the next room.  The others are still sleeping.

It will be quiet later as I think everyone is leaving today.

Our Christmas was splendid yesterday.

Morning all.

Slept late as I'm dealing with the remnants of an upper respiratory infection over the last few days.  Pretty much cleared up.  Will test the layout today as the children/grandkids start arriving this afternoon.

Morning, all.

Where is everybody?  I slept really late after watching the Patriots actually look like a football team last night.

I did a lot of outside work yesterday as it was so nice out, supposed to be in the 50s again today, but it'll be basement clean up today.

Morning, all.

I guess I'm first here today, though woke up an hour late as I was pretty beat after work yesterday.  Basement cleanup and maybe a trip to the dump on the docket today.  It will be up to 56 degrees today, pretty warm for December.

It's also Pearl Harbor day, a date which will live in infamy.

Kit Building / Challenge build 2021. Act 3.
January 15, 2022, 05:46:02 PM
Next up is a Downtown Deco Kit.  In the town scene on the layout, there is dead end street that needs  a structure.  I had a small bar there, but it was too small, so I looked over Downtown Deco's site when he had a sale and picked up this kit (as well as two others as it was buy two get one free  :D ).

Kit Building / Challenge build #2. FOS Freebie.

Here's my second build for the challenge.  It's a FOS Freebie #31.  Santos Tattoo and Cigar.  These kits are a challenge in themselves, as there are no instructions.   ???  Makes it like a puzzle to put together.  Here's the bag.

Kit Building / 2022 Challenge #1. Proto 2000 Tank Car.
January 02, 2022, 09:02:29 PM
Full disclosure, I started this about 2 weeks ago, finished today.  I think again this year I'll do a few small projects rather than one large one, to try to keep on task.  Last year I built a Proto 2000 hopper car.  I mentioned then that I like to do one of these each year to test my vision and ability to put tiny grab irons in tiny holes.  I managed again this year without much problem, so I think I'm good for modeling for another year.   :)  This isn't a blow by blow, more a summary of the build.  Here's the contents.  Plastic parts on sprues, wheels, couplers, weights and instructions.

Merry Christmas to all, and God bless us, every one!

                                                        Tiny Tim

No present opening today, we're waiting for my son's visit next week for that.  Plenty of baking yesterday and more treats to be made today.  Don't break your toys on the first day!

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / A bit of a diversion
December 17, 2021, 08:51:41 PM
It's not the right scale, but an interesting kit.  It doesn't run (it's supposed to work on rubber band power).  When I put the chassis with the wheels into the frame, the front wheel now hits the frame (you can see it's off the track), and I can't figure out how to fix it.  Anyway there's a lot of friction (you use scraped off candle wax as "lubricant", so I doubt it would be a smooth run.  The instructions are like building IKEA furniture, all drawings, no text.  I must say the parts are very well lasered out of  5/32" (4mm) wood.  Very small "gates".  Most pieces can be pushed out of their holders, smaller ones need cutting or they may break.  Everything held together by toothpicks (no glue).  My daughter gave me this for Chrismas two (three? four?) years ago, and figured I'd finally build it and see if I could concentrate on something for a week to completion.  Maybe I'll be up for the challenge build in a few weeks.   :)

Morning, all.

Wake up you sleepyheads!  I slept an hour late and I'm still the first here?  I'm off for the weekend.  Today will be in the 50s, so I suspect I'll be recruited to help put up the Christmas lights.  Some other outdoor chores as well.  Rode the Cog Railway when we went to New Hampshire in October.

Morning, all.

All you eastern folks sleepin' in?  Here it's a heat wave, up to 57 today.  I'll do the outside chores today.  Mowing (? last time), and moving the outdoor cushions in.  Probably suck up some leaves as well.

Morning, all.

Hawkeyes won an exciting contest yesterday, hopefully the Patriots will do the same today.  Still working on the home projects.  As it was a home game yesterday, there was no way I was going to try to go to Lowe's for the impact driver (that I still can't find  :o ).  Moved stuff on the layout looking for the driver, so that counts as layout work, doesn't it?   ::)

Morning all.

Where is everyone?  I slept an hour late and still the first here?  I have the next nine days off.  A staycation to stay with the dog while the wife goes on a trip with her mother and sisters.  Hope to get enough motivation to do something with the layout and/or build something.  I do have a few home chores to accomplish as well.

Feeling better here.  Hawkeyes laid an egg yesterday in football, but the Red Sox won.  Hope the Pats can win today.  Classic Maine lighthouse and shore rocks.

Morning all,

Everyone must have slept late like I did.  Nearly finished with downstairs cleaning.  Need to run the track cleaning train today.
