Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Friday - 12/29/2023

Good morning, all!

Last workday of the year.  Yesterday I scheduled my optional holidays and vacation days for next year so I can continue this trend of four-day work weeks.  I ran out of days by the end of March which means I'm going to have to work five-day work weeks in my final month.  The horror.   :o

I sure hope to get some workbench time in this weekend.  I'm finishing up structure 7 of 8 for Red Hook Wharf.  I want to finish that build before I start a new one, I received for X-Mas.  ;)

Have a great one!

Good morning all,

Welcome to the shortest day of the year (unless you're still employed and working like me).  It's also known as my better half's birthday.   :)

No workbench time for me today but it is the end of my work week.  I'll be off until next Wednesday.  I'm sure I'll be able to squeeze some workbench time in over the weekend although my evenings are rapidly filling with holiday parties.

Have a great one!

Morning all,

It's Greg's turn to bring the donuts this morning.  Where is he?

Just getting ready for long, boring, meeting that will start in 15 minutes.  Yuck.  At least I have a new Bee Line magazine (Reading Company Technical & Historical Society) to browse through.  The cover is interesting.  It's a picture of some tank cars that went overboard off a car float.  8, loaded, cars total.  1 derailed on the float, 1 hanging off the edge.  The other 6 not visible beneath the surface of the water.  Should be an interesting article to read.

Patiently waiting for the long weekend and some workbench time.

Have a great one!

Morning all,

I brought some donuts and bagels (with smear).  It's up to you to supply your beverage of choice today.

Just another day at the salt mine.  A couple of meetings this morning and testing code are on the agenda.  Yuck.  No workbench time today.  Double yuck.

Have a great one!

Morning all,

Is everyone sleeping in this morning?  I thought I'd give someone else a chance to open up today.  Or perhaps you're all out shopping for X-Mas (hint: I take 2XL t-shirt).

Really not much to report here.  I'm sitting in one of the most boring meetings imaginable and barely listening.  I have to pay just enough attention to know when it's my turn to present.  I could care less about what everyone else is demonstrating.  This kind of thing I won't miss when I retire next year.

The workbench is calling.  I'm 4/5 of the way finished with Red Hook Fish Oil Company.  Once I get that one buttoned up there's a small bar that shouldn't take too long to build.  Then it'll be a matter of building the wharf itself and positioning all the structures.  This one was going to be a project I started when I retired but I kind of jumped the gun on it.

Have a great one!

Morning all,

I still have some shopping to do and time is running out. :o  My better half got a package in the mail last week from FOS.  I wonder what she's planning on building.

Just another day at the keyboard today.  I have a presentation to give this morning.  Everyone gets to hear me prattle on for an hour.  It'll be a sure cure for insomnia.

Have a great one!

Good morning all,

First of a three-day weekend here in sunny Florida.  Yard work this morning.  Then a trip to a couple of stores and to pick up lunch.  Hopefully the afternoon will be open for workbench time!

Have a great one!

Good morning all,

Time to start X-Mas shopping.  Or in my case X-mas shopping and Birthday Gift shopping.  Better half's birthday is on the 21st and Juniors is on the 22nd.  Of course, my better has the shortest list in the world and doesn't really need anything.  That makes it so much easier.  Not.

Today is my Friday.  Looking forward to tomorrow and some work bench time.

Have a great one!

Good morning all,

Day after Thanksgiving here in the US.  Otherwise known as Black Friday.  The big shopping day.  Though the impact has lessened over the years with the advent of on-line shopping and deals.

I'm working today, but I'm one of the few so I anticipate a somewhat quiet day.  The only problem is that if some kind of problem does arise, I'll be one of the few that they can come to for help.  Fingers crossed nothing comes up.

I did get an hour or so in at the workbench yesterday.  Soon time to add the roof cards to Red Hook Fish Oil Company.

Have a great one!

Kit Building / FOS Kone Shack Build
November 17, 2023, 09:40:55 AM
It's been a while so let's see if I remember how to post pictures on this forum and get them to display in a build thread.  ;D  This one is a small FOS kit, The Kone Shack, I build a while back.  I took pictures along the way but never used them.  It'll be like a trip down memory lane for me.

Okay, that was even easier than I recalled.  I uploaded the pictures to my gallery last night and just copied and pasted the BB code into the thread.  Cool!  Here's the contents of the package.

I usually start a new build by with a fresh #11 blade in my X-Acto knife and a fresh single edged razor blade.

There were only a couple of metal castings in this kit so I cleaned them up with a small file.

I'm not sure what the limit is to the number of photos in a post so I'll stick to four.  More in moment... ;)

Morning all,

I'm surprised no one has opened up this morning.  Guess I'll get the ball rolling.

Day off today.  Plenty of outside chores to do but it's still raining out there.  I have a new rear turn signal to install in my CR-V but's raining too hard to bother.  The new part arrived yesterday and was already hit by another car before I even installed it.  The FedEx guy left the package in front of our garage door.  My wife backs her car into the garage and her car is old enough that it doesn't have a camera.  She backed into the package.  Damage to the box but not the part.  :)

With all this rain I guess I'll pull out the workbench, pop a movie in the DVD player, and have at it.

Have a great one!

Here's my 2022 Challenge Build.  It's The Angebilt Hotel.  Well, a representation of the Angebilt Hotel in Orlando.  In actuality it's the Bachmann's Ambassador Hotel which looks like the Angebilt Hotel.  I've been subcontracted to build this for the A&S railroad at the bequest of the Ticket Agent (better known as the Judge).  The Judge provided me with the following pictures of the real Angebilt Hotel.

Because the Judge is a much better storyteller than I'll ever be I'll defer to him to provide any background information, tales, running commentary, etc. re. the Angebilt.  I'll just take care of building it and lighting it up.   8)

For me this will certainly be a departure from building wood craftsman kits.  I've worked with plastic kits before, mostly DPM, but it's been a long, long time.  Here's the box:

And the contents of the box.

I expect this one will take me a little while to build and there won't be a lot of pictures along the way.  The fun part will be trying to make it look like it's not a plastic kit.  That means painting everything and not relying on the 'molded in color' plastic deal.  ;D

More in just a moment.... ;)

Morning all,

Well, Opa George must have jinxed me.  I had to put in a call to get my A/C unit repaired.  Last night the outside unit quit running and the house was being heated by the emergency (read $$$) heat in the blower unit.  Not the first time this has happened.  Actually it's not the second, third, fourth, fifth....    >:(  We'll be replacing it in the next year of two.  It's a "Lemon"ex.  We won't be going with that brand again.

Last day of PI planning but tomorrow is packed with meetings anyway.  :P  I'm really looking forward to the weekend and some workbench time.  Gotta kick off my challenge build before the month is over.

Morning all,

Halfway through the work week.  Unfortunately for me it's a PI planning week which means hours upon hours of meetings where nothing really useful gets accomplished.

Let's start of the day with a picture from the F&SM.  I can almost smell the bread baking.  Yum!

Morning all,

Off to a rip roaring start at work this morning.  I love it when I'm trying to fix someone else Charlie Foxtrot but don't have sufficient authority to repair the objects on the system.   >:(

I'd rather be at the workbench.   :)  Future project, if I ever get to it, is to detail an gondola interior like this.

Morning all,

Three day weekend coming up.  I just need to survive the rest of the work week to get there.   ;D  That reminds me.  I need to schedule some days off in Feb, Mar, Apr and May.  It's a long stretch between Martin Luther King Jr. day and Memorial Day.   :P

From the F&SM but I bet I didn't have to tell you that.  ;)

Just another day working away at the old dining room table except for a brief interruption to run out for blood work.  Nothing on the work bench front to report.

Morning all,

Well, my better half (who works at a school) returns to work today.  It'll be interesting to see if they have a full staff or if they're going to be short handed.  Meanwhile I'll continue plugging away at my dining room table.   ;)

Have a great one!
