Craftsman Kit Chronology / Database
« on: January 13, 2020, 12:56:13 PM »
Hi, I'm new to this group/forum - just joined today (1/13/2020).  Been into model RR all my life and just now have some spare time to start really enjoying the hobby.  My RR passion is logging and am hoping to begin actually working on my layout soon.  I've collected many craftsman kits (mostly buildings/structures) over the years and I have just started to put my collection into a computer database (Microsoft Access).  Just wondering if anyone has conducted any research on craftsman kits or can recommend sources which might contain chronological information about the various kits the manufacturers have produced over the years. I realize some are no longer with us and others have been taken over by other manufacturers.  Some of the particulars I'd like to obtain include: Manufacturer Name; Kit/Item #; Date Produced; Quantity Produced; Original Selling Price; Special Features (lighting, sound, animation, etc.).  I realize this is a lot to ask for but hopefully I can get some responses that will get me pointed in the right direction.  I've been searching the web, eBay, etc and picking up some limited information, but I just wanted to pose this question in a forum setting which has many members with a common interest.  Thanks!
Carl

Carl,

This site has a lot of older literature, catalogs, etc.  You may find information here that will help you.  https://hoseeker.net/

The information you are requesting is listed here for George Sellios' Fine Scale Miniatures kits.  http://fsmkits.homestead.com/kit_history.html

Welcome to the forum.

Bob & Jerry, thank you for your "welcome" and information.  Bob, I spent some time on the site and viewed some of your builds.  You're a true craftsman.  I'm sure to pick up some ideas and tips to improve my modeling.  This site and its members are a great resource and testament to a fantastic hobby!

Welcome to the forum.  The best sources of this information is the resellers. Jerry posted a couple links that should help. Any specific questions - like Jaime said someone on this forum will know.

Bob VanGelder of South River Modelworks still has his website up and running. It has a great history and pics of his past kit releases. Here's the link...just click on the "previous kits" tab.....
