Bob,  My wife wants me to thank you for this thead.  She's almost finished with her Red Light District and said it would have been much harder without this thread as an information tool.  She says the instructions are not exactly clear in many places and the use of empty parts sheets threw her off more than once.  She did end up making side walls for some of the interior buildings.  She's built more than 30 FOS kits and this one was the most difficult.

Thank you

LHC

Hi LHC,

Thanks!  I'm really glad to hear that this thread was helpful for your wife.  I agree with her assessment on the instructions.  In some respects this was just seven individual structures but, in a few places, you had to read between the lines and make some stuff up as you build it.

I'm also glad you bumped thread up.  I was going to have to dig for it soon.  I put this aside when it was almost finished, to work on Bar Mills Cundy Harbor for a friend.  I just got back to this one.  The buildings were finished and I was down to adding lights/interiors to the final three before connecting them the rest of the block.  As I wrap it up I'll document the final steps and the finished product.

Thanks again!

Bob-  It's funny you're working on Cundys Harbor.  That is her next build as it was her Christmas present a couple of years ago!    She did mention that this might be the only kit ever produced that will have nothing left to throw away when finished.  For the price of the kit, it seems they could include actual walls.   She worked on The Red Light all day and hopes to be finished real soon.  She's got one and a half structures left!

Janbouli- I'd be happy to post pictures of her work as soon as she is finished.  Here is her last build (FOS Pub Crawl).  She came in second with this build at the Lone Star Region Convention in June.  She's become quite a modeler and I am proud of her work :-)   Our layout even made the cover of the Cowcatcher magazine last issue.  Couldn't have done it without her

LHC,

The pub crawl looks great!  Thanks for sharing.  Like Jan, I too would like to see Mrs. LHC's version of the Red Light District when it's finished.

When I started my build thread, Build Challenge 2016: Bar Mills Dock House at Cundy Harbor, I was just going to cover the Dock House at Cundy Harbor.  I ended up doing the other structures as well at the end of that thread.  If I were starting over on that one I'd ditch the bamboo skewers that come with the kit to be used as pilings and get some slightly larger wood dowels.  The bamboo is a little difficult to work with and doesn't take stain the same as wood.  Just a thought.

Bob, I shared your link to Cundys with her this morning.  She wants to finish Red Light ASAP now and get started on Cundys!   Thank you for the heads up on the bamboo pilings.  We have 5 waterfont scenes on our layout so I'll make sure she uses the same style pilings we've already ued.

Tom- Thank you!  She also won the coveted Linda S. Little award given to the woman with the highest score in the contest room that merrited in AP points.  The Pub Crawl  scored 115 pts.  How's your new RR coming along?  Are you still hitting the Diet Pepsi?

Karl- Thank you!  Here are some of my favorite builds that she has done.

This is her first ever build and first scratch build (Shady Lady).  Sentimental

Hi all,
Wow! What great pics!  I noticed I just left a nose print on my monitor looking at all the nice detailing. ;)  Thanks for posting.  Thanx Thom...

Someone has had a lot of fun modeling those scenes. That's what it is all about.
Very nice work. Job well done.
