yes, tsk been re-released, great kit. I enjoyed building it and I am sure you will too! One thing, ,,,on mine the resin walls were warped,  I put them in the microwave for 10 seconds at a time to warm and soften them,,,then I placed them under a piece of wood with weight on it and left them there for a while. they flattened right out.

Karl, I realize I should not answer a question with a question. Here goes anyway.
What is your opinion of the nail holes?

They look good to me.

Karl, I think it was unfair of me to put the question back on you. So I will answer the question.
I know the topic of nail holes is to say the least a bit controversial. First, are we not speaking nail heads?
If there was just nail holes, would the building not fall down? If we are in agreement they are nail heads, with the head being larger than
the actually nail, I don't think the eye could see them. To me they stand out too much in HO. Even in O they can be over done.
But I am in the camp that believes less is more. If I have reached the point of my comments being asinine, I have gone there before and apologize.
Putting that aside, your modeling is damn good, and my opinion is of little importance. Nail holes and global warning, which is more important?
I will continue to follow, and enjoy your progress.

I'm of the opinion that "hyper-realism" tends to make the modeling more "real".  I don't think that we would see the wood grain in HO either, but adding grain to the wood makes the structure look so much better to the eye.
In my modeling, I only have to please myself- what looks good to me is what really matters. I like adding nail holes to my structures, but I make them fainter to see- they stand out more in a photo but you have to get up close to really see them when you are in my train room.
Your build is coming along nicely Karl! The roof was the hardest part when I built mine. This is such a great kit that Bar Mills put out.
Title: Re: Schmidtchens Firearwems Bar Mills
Post by: engine909 on September 17, 2017, 04:51:34 PM
Bob C. You make some great points. I think the grain is accepted because it covers the whole board, not just a TINY spot. Plus the nail heads are in a straight line making them more apparent.
The most important thing to me is, the kit builder gets joy from his or her efforts. How well it is done is secondary. To super detail some kits takes a year, even if you are retired. If you are doing that and building a layout, you run out of time, which may take away from the enjoyment.
I admire every ones efforts, and will always respect you.

Looks great Karl, as always. I'd hate for you to pull out all those tiny nails-I say keep em. ;)

Hi Ed:

Haven't been to Reading in quite a number of years. So I can't make a comment about it so I will take your word for it. anyway its always good to hear from another Pa. guy.

I'm working on windows and door at this point and there are a lot of them. All are painted and weathered. Am adding glass and installing them into the walls.
