Kit Building / Carolina Craftsman kit Rural Post Office.
« on: February 01, 2018, 05:53:41 PM »
CCK's Groovy Jeff has a new kit out. It's an old board and batten rural post office.

As a boy, when visiting my mother's relatives in Vandalia, IL., we used to go to a grocery store like this to buy candy. For a quarter we could get a bag of candy that would last a week.

The store in Vandalia was a rural grocery store with a counter and sign stating "Post Office". Behind the counter were open post boxes for about 20 people. It was like Mr. Godsey's rural grocery store on the Waltons.

I'm going to make this a rural country store that doubles as a post office. Of course, I'll have to add my own touch to the structure.

I emptied the contents on the work bench.

More in a few.

Morning all,

I've been up for a while now, just couldn't sleep. Old age and all that.

I have nothing else.

Have a great day.

Kit Building / KC's Workshop X's 2 - Third build Challenge
« on: January 19, 2018, 05:50:48 PM »
My Babe bought me KC's Workshop Cameron Street Apartments for Christmas.

When the package arrived, Kenny was gracious and in the Spirit of Christmas, sent me two additional structures. He sent his Freight Depot and the Utility Shed. He mentioned he would be curious to see what I'd do with them.

His challenge was accepted so I'll call this the KC Raymo build challenge.

More in a few.

Rolling Stock / Minitrains redo for Cuse
« on: January 17, 2018, 07:16:57 PM »
I'm kinda like Bilbo Baggins as I'm off on another journey.

John Mancuso has asked me to repaint if necessary, redecal and weather his new Mintrain loco and four passenger cars..

I'll remove the old decals on the loco, renumber it and change the tender decal to read C&DR RY. The Carrabasset & Dead River Ry. Obviously the tender will only hold the diamond with C&DR in the center.

We don't have enough decals to redo the passenger cars. Here is the loco and cars.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Superior Customer Service.
« on: January 15, 2018, 04:01:01 PM »
I would like to thank Jim Mooney of Bar Mills for a very generous offer to make some HO scale restaurant booths for Sweaty Beaty's Diner.

I mentioned in my thread that I needed to find some interior for the diner and Jim offered to laser cut some for me. Although I found some to use from Stella Scale Models, his offer was above and beyond great customer service.

I would say this is Superior Customer Service. Thank you Jim Mooney and Bar Mills.

While I'm at it, I'd also like to say I've received Superior Customer Service from several vendors over the past several years.

Jeff Grove of CCK, Ken Crump of KC's Workshop, Jimmy D. of Railroad Kits, Doug Fosscale of Foscale Models and Bill Satore of Microlumina.

Each and all of these guys have gone out of their way to help me with some special requests.

Thank you all very much.

I love this place!

The Official F&SM Layout Thread! / F&SM Railroad Extra Pictures.
« on: January 10, 2018, 02:58:18 PM »
At the 2016 Expo several of us spent several hours with George Sellios and his famous F&SM railroad model.

I think John Siekirk and I took thousands of pictures.

When John hosted the F&SM RR from the air, we showed thousands of those pictures.

I used two different cameras and had four memory cards. I have now located the two missing cards containing more F&SM pictures taken in March of 2016.

I'll post them here for viewing and copying to your own files if desired.

Many may be the same or close to the old ones as there are just to many to keep track of.

I'll start the extra pictures of the Muddville area first. After that they are all over the place. The Muddville area is mainly made up of Kings Mills backdrop photos on stiff backing. George added his casting to many of the structures/photo backdrops.

I'll try to add several every other week or so.

Morning all,

Well it is snowing somewhere in Florida. I was in Jacksonville in 1961 when it snowed last. It's raining liquid snow here now. A cold and wet 45 at the house.

I guess my Northern friends are too snowed in open this morning.

Ya'll stay warm, safe and have a great day.

Morning all,

Stitches come out this morning, then I have a few errands to run.

I'll be working on Cuse's little loco and new decals for the C&DR. Looks like a full day for me.

Have a great day ya'll.

Kit Building / Build Challenge 2018 #2 - Bar Mills Sweaty Betty's
« on: December 31, 2017, 05:44:37 PM »
I have a need for a small back road restaurant for the railroad workers.

I'm going to build Bar Mills Sweaty Betty's. I've never build a Bar Mills kit so I thought I'd use this opportunity to check Bar Mills off my list of kits I've built of different manufacturers.

Here is the obligatory start photos.

Kit Building / Build Challenge 2018 - Tichy Train Group Lamp Posts
« on: December 30, 2017, 05:15:18 PM »
Okay, it's not a kit as in it has no walls but it is a kit none the less.

The Rules Master said and I quote, "I forgot to mention you can build the kit stock or change is up as much as (you) want."

So, this is what I want and I'll kit bash it into a brass lamp post with LED lighting.

Reading Bob and I have been discussing this for the past several years.

Here's a look at the kit.

More in a few. I need to get a cold Diet Pepsi and give ya'll time to stop laughing. ;D ;D

Morning all,

I couldn't sleep last night. I have a Dr. appointment at 8 AM to look at the back of my right hand. It appears I have more Skin Cancer that will require surgery. Nothing deadly but it means being back in a half cast for the next 6 - 8 weeks. We all know what that means to me. NO MODELING!

I'll report back later this morning.

Have a great day ya'll.

No, I did not burn this caboose. Slim did with his funky LEDs.

Morning all,

I really like all these Saturdays. I dug out my Charlie Brown Christmas tree yesterday. Well, actually I found it looking for something else.

The Judge is coming by this morning and I think a few others may stop by as well. Great BSing and BBQ is always a must on Saturdays here.

Ya'll have a great day.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Saturday, Wet and Rainy - December 9, 2017
« on: December 09, 2017, 05:51:51 AM »

Morning all,

Wet, rainy and getting cold here this morning. Definitely not the weather I've been wanting after two weeks of the flu.

My Babe wants a day out so I'm spending the day with her. Maybe some train time later this afternoon.

Have a great day ya'll and stay warm.
