Afternoon All,

Well I finally got started on my project. This is my first scratch build and it will replace the Walther's Sand House and Sand Pit I currently have. I will also need to design a support tower to support a supply pipe from the house to the existing track sand dispenser.

I previously completed the measurements and did some drawings to help me with the project. Today I cut out the 4 walls and the spaces for the windows and doors. I was a bit rough on one window but I can make it work.

It may be Thursday before I can do more work on the project due to Grand Parent duties this week.

Kit Building / AMB Interlocking Tower (Kit #702)
« on: July 08, 2017, 03:31:34 PM »
Afternoon All,

Since my Saturday plans were cancelled by weather I decided to start the kit today instead of tomorrow. Today I painted the inside of the tower. The lower part was painted with Tamiya Flat Black and the part you will be able to see is a Medium Foliage Green (craft paint). I painted the floor Asphaltium (craft paint). The roof supports were painted the flat black also.

I was cheap so I built a tower lever machine that will go inside. It looks unimpressive in the photo, but I think it will be OK when inside the tower.

I ordered shingles from wild west models for the roof of the tower instead of the provided tar paper. I did this based on a conversation with Greg when we met at Tom's.

I completed the kit today. It was pretty basic so I didn't want to do a full thread.

Kit Building / FOS Yard Office # 2
« on: May 15, 2017, 02:31:22 PM »
I received this kit today in the mail. All I did today was open the kit, separate parts, removed the walls from the sprue and read the instructions several times. I'll get started with the bracing tomorrow.

I thing I don't understand is that the wide loading door is made out of a cardboard type material. Everything else (doors and windows) are from Tichy. In fact, the last Fos scale model I built had the exact door, but it was from Tichy.

Kit Building / Fos Tower Two Kit
« on: April 09, 2017, 03:52:01 PM »
As you can tell by the title I will be building a Fos Tower Two Kit that I purchased last week when I was in Sarasota. It's not going to be used as a tower but as my container yard office.

I opened the kit today took all the parts out and grouped them. I also read the directions 2 complete times. So there are 2 things I need to decide:

1. Colors to use. I use acrylic paint that comes in the little bottles at the craft stores. If anyone has suggestions concerning their use, please suggest away. Also the directions said to apply a alcohol and india ink mix (which I have) before painting. Does that seem right? I have always done it the other way around.

2. Any ideas where to get clear acetate sheets for making window glass?

Again, I am open to all suggestions as a newbie. I may not always take them but I will seriously think about them.

Layout Tours / Extension to the PRR Bellevue Sub Branchline
« on: January 27, 2017, 04:30:44 PM »
I have a approximately 30' x 12' layout of a fictitious branch line of the PRR Bellevue Sub. It has a single mainline in a folded dog bone that you can walk into the center of the layout. I just started a 1' x 10' extension on the front of the layout to service Pennsy's LCL loads and trailers on their TrucTrain flat cars. The time frame is the late 1940's-mid 1950's.

This is a picture of the extension area. Please pardon the mess. I have already added the extension wiring and cabling that is just hanging loose now. Today I bought the wood for the job and cut to size the 4 outside pieces.
