Kit Building / Rapido Switch Stands
« on: July 19, 2017, 04:39:02 PM »
I though it would be a interesting project to light one up...
Well, I will say it's not for the soldering challenged, damn nano LEDs are crazy small, .02"x.039".
Rapido made the switch stand kits, which I guess were offered with a switch motor but they also sell them with no motor, they were never intended to be lit. It wouldn't take much to make them operate.

Scratchbuilding / On30 Covered Bridge

Acts of Kindness...

A while back my good friend Brian Kistenmacher was lamenting about not having a HO Varney Dockside switcher. I had one that was unbuilt, and I had the Central Valley valve-gear add-on, in mint condition. So after a while, I finally said, "I will give you the one I have".

In exchange, Brian said he would build me a covered bridge for my On30 project.

It arrived yesterday, it is beautiful! Very nice work...

The Official F&SM Layout Thread! / The New Kit has been Planted!
« on: March 23, 2015, 11:17:31 AM »

I stopped by to see George and get a kit for the Expo door prize, and got a chance to see the new kit installed on the layout.

It looks Great! I am always amazed at how seamlessly George drops his dioramas into the layout.  You would think they had been there for years.

Excuse the iPhone photo...

Lighting Your Model / Inexpensive LED Dwarf Signals
« on: October 26, 2014, 11:16:29 AM »

I found these LEDs at All Electronics, the red ones are 5 for .75 cents. The LED is 3mm in size. I just rounded the top of the mount casing and added a shade that I cut from brass tubing.  They measure about a HO scale foot wide and 2 feet tall, a little large for HO but they could pass in some locations.  They would be fine in O scale.
The last shot is an HO figure.

There is obviously no prototype for these.

New Details, Tools & Accessories / Light Switch Improvement
« on: June 02, 2014, 12:02:36 PM »
I have a couple of lamps in my shop with the switch recessed in a small well.  So I finally came up with the idea to add a larger knob.
A small knob for electronics worked perfectly.

New Details, Tools & Accessories / New Scissors
« on: December 18, 2013, 03:23:11 PM »
I stumbled on these while looking for stocking stuffers.  They are designed for chopping up credit cards. You can cut 5 strips about 2.25" long and they are about 1 HO scale foot wide.  Something else to clutter up your bench.
