.....we got a price on a whole house generator system...$17,500 and I had to provide the concrete say I was speechless is an understatement....

I saw a commercial on TV last night for whole house generators "starting" slightly over $1,900.  I laughed at the "starting" part.  I've been researching/pricing generators after last weeks fiasco.  We'll be buying one (most likely just a portable one, not the whole house deal) once things calm down and I figure out where I want to store it.   ::)

Morning Tom and all that follow,

Glad to hear that the oak tree is being taken care of today Tom.  Good luck with cedar.  With all the damage Irma did it's going to take a long time to get everything cleaned up.  The crews have been working hard but there are mountains of debris, fallen trees and partially fallen trees everywhere.

Not much to report here.  Things are getting back to normal but I haven't made any real progress at the workbench lately.

Have a great one!

I have a confession of sorts to make.

I'm not sure if it's a hold over from the NMRA open house, Hurricane Irma or what.  No matter how I feel, I can't seem to get interested in the layout work. I've been this way for a few weeks now.

I was speaking to Frank Baker, Erieman, this afternoon and he said he went through a similar period after the MRR shoot with Lou Sassi. Frank said he is getting over it but still has the same issue.

Maybe I need more Diet Pepsi, I've been cutting back and attempting to drink more water. ;D ;D ;D

I'm sure it will pass but for now I'm just getting by on a few, okay, 1-2 hours a day in the layout room. I come in, look around, turn around, turn off the lights, leave and lock the door.

However, I do have a little update.

Tom ;D

That happens from time to time.  I've been in a bit of a funk myself lately and passing up opportunities to spend time at the work bench.  I know I'll get over it.  It seems to happen to me when I have too many things on my plate, other than model building, that I should be working on.  Either at work and/or around the house.

Morning all,

Had a scare yesterday afternoon. The power went out again around 4 PM. I called upon all the dirty words I learned as a kid and used a few I know as an adult.  After about 90 minutes I was going to call Reading Bob and go get my generator back.

After the 90 minutes the power came back on. Seems they shut off the power to reconnect the power a few blocks from the house. All is well.

Have a great day ya'll.

Tom ;D

That would be scary!  I'll be happy to run your generator down anytime you want.  I'll give you a call later to talk about that.  We can't thank you enough for letting us use it.  Things are almost back to normal around our house.

I had originally scheduled last Monday as a day off.  As it turns out the office was closed so I was allowed to cancel that and take the day another time.  I scheduled it for this coming Monday.  I'm hoping we don't have a repeat of Irma with Hurricane Maria.   :P  :o

Have a great one!

There was a great thread that Martin Ojaste had done on building Grandma's House but, alas, it appears that it's no longer here.   :'(  I had a link to it in one of my build threads but it now leads to a dead end.

This is one of the few Campbell kits I've retained and it does look a bit tricky.

Wonderful Leo and Lorrie!  Two thumbs up!

I'm just getting caught up on this.  The pictures don't show when I access the site at work (too many web filters  ::)  ) but I can see them at home.   ;D   ;D   ;D

Morning all,

Yes, we're back!  Thanks to all for the welcome back to the civilized world.  5 1/2 days without power in Florida is no picnic.  What saved us was Tom's very generous loan of his generator.  It's noisy as heck and drove the wife and son nuts (while I was at work) but it ran the fridge, lights, a few fans and let us recharge our devices.  A couple days I thought I going to come home from work to a beheading fit for "Game of Thrones".  But, without it we would have been been forced to find a hotel room which many in our neighborhood did.  Now I have to get it back down to Tom's before the next hurricane gets here.   :o

Now that life is returning to normal I can get back to the workbench in the comfort of the A/C.   ;D   ;D   ;D

Have a great one! ;D   ;D   ;D

Morning all,

Just didn't get much sleep last night. I'll probably crash sometime mid-morning.

Hope Reading Bob gets his power on today.

Have a great day ya'll.

Yesh!  Me too!   ;)

ReadingBob, Number one-You have the best avatar. Two-You live in beautiful Lake Mary. Bob, do you shop at Cavallari Market? Customer of mine. Three-You are a very cool dude.
Where I live in Lithia, there are homes within three blocks of our house (in the same Fishhawk Trails) that have no power. Very strange.

Thanks Ed.  The older the get the more I look like, and act, like my hero Walter.   ;D

I'm not familiar with Cavallari Market.  I'll have to remember to check it out once things get back to normal around here.

On the way to work I pass one area where downed trees broke a utility pole into pieces put the lines are down on the sidewalk.  The surrounding area is without power and I have yet to see any activity at all around that downed pole/line.  I'm sure they're fixing things as fast as they can but when you see something that hasn't been touched since Monday it makes you wonder how long it will really be until they can get to it.   Also makes me wonder how bad the damage is that's affecting my power (the lines in my neighborhood are underground so nothing is visible to us).

We can all tell how hot it's been for Reading Bob. He thinks today is the 16th. ;D ;D ;D

Last year this time on Friday was the 16th of September.

Let's hope he gets his power on sooner rather than later and we'll all live one extra day!

Tom ;D

Oops!   :D  I haven't exactly been getting a good night's sleep this week.   ;)

If we don't have power back by Sunday I may break out a Downtown Deco kit Sunday afternoon and work on in it out on the patio.  At least I have a plan!   ;D  ;D  ;D

Morning all,

Normally I'd be excited it's Friday because it would mean workbench time is approaching over the weekend.  But, we're still in the dark at home so that may limit what I can do.   :(  Apologies for the constant power updates but I don't really have much else to talk about.   ;)

Have a great one!

I always wondered what it looked like from the inside.

I figured you would have walked back there and checked it out.  You probably wouldn't even need to duck to get back there.   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;)

Thanks LHC!  Other than the inconvenience of being without power we're okay.  Could have been a lot worse so I shouldn't complain.

No worries about hijacking the thread.  I'm enjoying the posts.  Thanks again for sharing!
