Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Re: Friday Nov 17

Morning all,

Geez....there's a bunch of folks here that have been feeling poorly lately plus a bunch of folks at the office that have been off (or at least should be off) because they're feeling poorly as well.  I hope I can dodge that bullet.

T.G.I.F! or, as Jamie would say, "Friday's are a wonderful thing!"   :D

I do have a some plans for this weekend but they shouldn't preclude any workbench time.  I've got a radio station to build!   ;)

Have a great one!

That's certainly better than any freight car weathering I've done so far Dr. Jeff.  But I haven't exactly set the bar very high (there's a reason I've never posted pictures of my attempts here) so you may mistakenly take that as an insult.   :P  :D  But please don't.  These look very nice!   :D  :D  :D

Morning all,

That's an awesome picture Dan!   :D  :D  :D  Love it.

I'm with Mark and Dave.  No modeling last night but one more day closer to the weekend.  Next week's a three day week for me except I'm off on Tuesday and Thursday so I have to go to work on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.   :P

Have a great one!

Morning all,

Dan, having the winter off to build those little vehicles would be nice wouldn't it.  I buy those little pink tickets every morning in the hope that I get to retire early so I can spend more time at the workbench.  So far that plan hasn't worked out too well.   :(

My queue of things to build is about at capacity.  I've got a FOS kit underway plus one FOS and two FSM's waiting to be built.  I do have some vacation planned for the latter part of December so that may help make a dent in things.  But it somewhat depends on what the better half wants to do during that time off.  ::)

Have a great one!

Morning all,

I did manage to get a little workbench time in last night.   :D  One of those rare (for me) weeknight sessions.   ;)

Congratulations to Mike on the birth of his grandson.   ;D

Have a great one!

Morning all,

Uh-oh.  Dan's sick.  Tom's sick.  I sure hope the guy that transported Dan's vehicles from Altoona to the A&S doesn't get sick.   :P  Hope ya'll start to feel better soon (that includes you too Jan as well as anyone else who may be under the weather).

I managed a little workbench time yesterday.  Saturday was a waste, I spent the entire afternoon at a car dealer.  I may never figure out how to work all the gadgets on the new car I brought home.   :o

Have a great one!

Morning all,

Yes, a big Thank You to all our veterans.  My father was in the Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII.  The number of WWII vets is dwindling.

No workbench time for me today.   :(   I have to spend the afternoon dealing with a car salesman.  I'd much rather be shopping in the vendor room at the EXPO.   ;)

Have a great one!

Good Morning All,

I found out Grandpa duty will only be Saturday instead of 3 days. Last night about 5 pm I got a call from daughter saying her brakes failed in her car. Luckily she was in her school parking lot. I stayed with her until the tow truck left and she borrowed my truck. Not sure what's happening today.

I hope everyone has a great day.

It must be the week for that.   :o  Most likely I'll be buying a new car tomorrow because of that.  No, no accident.  I just don't want to sink more $ into fixing my van than what it's probably worth.   :(

Morning all,

A bunch of new Raymo vehicles were delivered to the A&S in the early evening yesterday.  The proprietor of the A&S was overjoyed to put it mildly.   :D  I suspect we may see some pictures in the near future.   ;)

Have a great one!

Morning all,

I think Greg needs to cut down on the caffeine.   :)  Nice picture Dan, wish I would have seen that tooling around the area last week.

Looks like I'm going to spend part of my Saturday doing something I hate to do - new car shopping.  I got the repair estimate on my van last night and decided that it wasn't worth it to sink that much money into a vehicle that's 10+ years old with 144k miles on it.   :(  It's been nickel and diming me to death as it is and now it's starting to up the ante big time.   >:(

Have a great one!

Thanks, guys.  It was really easy and quick.  I spent more time fixing the broken off girders.  Bob, I thought of weathering this with Pan Pastels, but as easily as the side girders come off, it'll need airbrushing, and I'm not really good enough at that yet to try it.   :-\

I hear that.  I'm comfortable using the airbrush to paint solid colors but haven't tried my hand at light layers for weathering (yet).  I have a few victims on the workbench to experiment with.  One of these days I'll pull the trigger (airbrush trigger that is) and give it a try.   ::)

Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments and replies.

This was a fun build but it sure took me quite a while to finish it.  Adding interiors and lighting added some extra time to the build but, in the end, I think it was worth the effort.   8)

Morning all,

Tom, say hello to Frank for me as well.  I'd run down myself if I could get out of the cube this morning and if the brakes in my van weren't failing.  A pleasant little surprise that started happening just before I arrived at work this morning.  I just had all of them replaced and the rotors turned the last time I had it in for service.   >:(

Read the article in Model Railroader on Roberts layout.  Well done!  Congratulations on being in the magazine again.  The layout looks wonderful.   :D

Have a great one!

Pretty neat.  It certainly makes a huge difference in the appearance of the car.  Now weather that puppy up and toss in some trash, dirt and a little debris.   ;)

Thanks for sharing!

Gonna keep the record store or make it into a studio?  ;)

It'll be record store.   :)  No studio with operating reel to reel tapes.   :P

D'oh!  One thing I wanted to see if you had (and pick up) at the EXPO was a flashing red LED to put on the top of the antenna.  Great time to remember that.   ::)    ;D
