Extreme Bachmann Hopper Bash
« on: January 30, 2018, 12:31:50 PM »
There was no accurate model of this car, so I bashed one. They were originally leased by the Santa Fe to haul grain.
When the lease was up they went to many private owners and several railroads. To built the car I had to lots of cutting and a little reshaping. The hatches and walkways were molded on the top. I ended up cutting the body into. The body fit into the bottom, so it was easy square things up. I used a top from a old IM grain hopper. This allowed me to use IM hatches. The ends are brass channel that I cut and glued to fit.

Bobby,
I just love seeing what others are kitbashing or building with any type of rolling stock.  You are doing an awesome build.  Can't wait to see more.  Thanx Thom...

Tom, Jerry and Greg, thank you very much. Here's a photo of the B end. Notice there's a rivit on each rung.

Thank you Thom, Vince. I used Microscale 87-444 and Model Master. I mixed white and black high gloss to achieve
the gray that looked close. I didn't have a good photo in as built paint, only a b&w builders photo. I found plenty of weathered photos. One looked like it had been under salt water for a year or so. I'm going to weather it, but not to that extreme.

Thom,

You definitely need a manicure brother.

Fair play and all that.
