building wagons in HO scale
« on: December 23, 2017, 12:36:07 PM »
Here is another wagon I built, again in HO. The prototype was fond in St. Louis, and I was very lucky to have found it, as we went back there a couple of years later, and sadly, it was gone. But I took plenty of pictures. It was very dilapidated, and had parts of another wagon in it's bed, and I wanted to model it just like it was.

more pictures. The final resting place for this was on my Loco and Service shops from Sierra West Scale Models.

Nelson,
Yah know, If I wanted to sit and read up and look upon some crappy old wagon tale of yesteryear.  I would ask for...  So my answer is: Please and Thank you!
Wow! very cool indeed.  I'm pickin' up, whatchur puttin' down sir.  Very historic modeling.  I'll say it, very realistic modeling for sure.  Thanx Thom...

Peter, thank you, and you are welcome.

Thank you Thom. Appreciate that. So you would like some more, would you??? Okay then.

The first couple are how I made the side braces. Soldered wire bent to shape. Then rusted up. The rest are close-ups.

I also made to scale wheel hubs. I researched the design from a few books I have on wagons.

This is one of the many models that Russ Reinberg publisher of the magazine modelers Annual would have published. He also happens to loves wagons. I have 3 or 4 articles published in his magazine. Some of you may have seen them, Swakhammers and A Victorian House are two. We are still great friends, despite him getting out of the publishing business a few years ago. He still does modeling, and we share photos all the time, getting ideas and comments, etc.

Beautiful wagon, Tony.

One thing the photo shows that really helps portray weight, time and age, is the wheels being so far sunken into the ground.  This could be a very easy thing to revisit on your diorama if you so choose.

Cheers, Mark.

Mark, yes, you have a very valid point, and keen observation. When I placed the wagon on the Sierra West diorama, I 'borrowed' it from another dio when I went to Houston to show the model in the competition room, so I wasn't sure that would be the final resting place.
