Here are the shots of the contents of the box.............
Mike
Ohh...a double feature. Twice the fun! ;D
I'm in Mike ...
Front row tickets for me too!
Of course I'm following.
Me, too!
--Opa George
Here we go , so here I am.
This is going to be epic! I was hoping to see a build of this kit, appreciate you sharing.
-Steven
Looking forward to the feature. Where's my Diet Pepsi and popcorn?
Thanks everyone, so no pressure then!
I meant to bring back some Gatorboard from the other home but I forgot it. I will get it next week. So I will ease myself in with one of the little support buildings in the kit - the DeRito Oyster Lunch Diner. This is made of laser board and card. The building sits on a concrete slab made of two pieces of card glued together and then painted a concrete colour.
Mike
Hey Mike:
You know me. I'll be following along also.
Karl
Count me in too..... :)
I'm in.
Thanks Karl, Greg and Curt
Continuing........................... I painted wall battens guava while they still in the sheet. I attached them to the walls. Next up I added acetate for the windows and curtains to cover up for the lack of an interior. I then added some signage prefering the Pepsi sign over the Coke one!
Mike
I have joined the walls together. The instructions do not call for any bracing but I added some from my spares box. I used double sided tape and added the roofing paper. The sign was mounted on some card and then trimmed out with some painted 2x4 wood. That's your lot for today.................
Mike
Looks great. That's a lot of progress for one day.
Very nice little restaurant. I like the curtains. Nice touch.
--Opa George
Thanks Curt and George, I appreciate it.
Mike
Continuing................
I have added the roof and sign.
Mike
Hey Mike:
Looks just gorgeous.
Karl
Nice job Mike!!
Jerry
Thanks Karl and Jerry.
Mike
Hey Mike:
You are quite welcome.
Karl
Continung.............I decided to start on another ancillary building - The Burdick Freight House. The walls were identified and braced before using the sponge method to apply some light blue acrylic paint.
Mike
Continuing................the walls and roof come together.........
Mike
Hey Mike:
Looking good so far. Like the color you are using.
Karl
Looks good so far Mike. I really like the coloring.
Thanks Karl and Curt. I hit a snag with the kit. There should be some 3/32 sq wood in the kit to make some bents. This is usually colour coded yellow. I checked the wood supplies in the Dead Horse Bay kit. Unfortunately this kit does not use that size. I then looked inside my Bandit's Roost kit where I found some yellow coded wood. Using one sample I then checked it's sizing against my odds and ends box. This contains all the leftovers from other kits over the years. Eureka. I found several bits that I am able to use for the bents. So I can model on.................. :)
Mike
That looks great so far Mike!
The snag you hit with the missing 3/32 square wood is one of my pet peeves. It annoys me when a certain size strip wood is missing or there wasn't enough supplied in the kit. I've stained, painted, weathered, dry brushed, etc. all the strip wood of a certain size that came with a kit the trim color only to find out I was short several inches. Then I have to find another piece in my scrap box (if I'm lucky) and repeat the stain, paint, weather, dry brush process. It annoys me even more so if it's an odd size that I don't have on hand.
It's worth buying a bag of 1/16 square and of 3/32 square stripwood just for those "missing piece" situations. Also a bag or bulk buy of 1/8" square stripwood for extra bracing. The problem these days is finding a good source for bagged stripwood, it's really rare to see that stuff at a train show or hobby shop these days.

I buy my 1/16" and 1/8" stuff in bulk from Mt Albert - https://www.handlaidtrack.com/bulk-stripwood. You get a choice of 16" or 24" lengths.
I hear you Bob, Dave and Bob. The problem of obtaining stripwood this side of the pond is even greater as most British modellers do not use it. Thus supplies are few and far between. Mosttimes I have to obtain it from the US.
Continuing.............the freight dock was made over the template using the elusive 3/32 sq wood. Then 2x10's were added to the deck.
Mike
Mike looking great.
I make a strip wood buy once a year for my scratch build projects and those missing pieces. I usually get it from one of the mail order shops when they have their sale. This year I got 40 percent off so I really stocked up.
I'm considering getting this kit and this thread is helping. In a good way ;)
Thanks John and Rusty.
Continuing................I finished the little structure. Sadly I will not be posting for while now as I have to pack up my kits for the big move next Thursday week. We will be in a temporary state in the second home for a while until the legal work completes on the main house. I will be back...............
Mike
Nice workmanship, Mike.
Cheers, Mark.
Mike
Good luck with the move. We look forward to your return.
Mike,
Wonderful job on this kit, looks great.
I also get aggravated when missing or short supply of strip wood is missing. I've learned to just keep two packs of every size in my stash. When I get down to one pack I replace it so I always have enough. I've found this is a great idea for starting any scratch builds as well.
Again, great job on "Oyster Hill"
Tom ;D
Hey Mike:
Good luck with the move. I built that little blue station some time ago and I still have it. It's great little kit.
Karl
Stay safe.
Great Job Mike.....have a safe move and a Merry Christmas..... 8)
Great modeling and have a Merry Christmas.
Thanks Mark, John, Tom, Karl, Bob, Greg and Curt.
The best laid plans - my buyer decided to delay until the New Year. So I am still here!
I decided to paint the basement walls and then construct the basement. An internal wall goes between the stone walls. So while glueing the stone walls to the floor I decided to get the fit right by placing the internal wall between them.
Mike
Continuing................the kit comes with a kit for small oyster skiff barge.......it really was a case of painting the parts and then glueing them together.
Mike
Neat skiff Mike. Reminds me of similar small boats in the Navy.
Hello Mike, you're off to a great start. Can't wait to see what you do with this kit. Good luck with your move, it's nice that you don't have to do it during the holidays. Jeff
Looking great Mike!
Thanks Curt, Jeff and Mark.
Continuing.................. Here are the walls of the board by board section. The rear wall will not be seen so it is not covered.
Mike
Continuing........... the basement walls coming together...........
Continuing................. the foundation for the main building is made of card which I painted with a concrete textured paint.
Continuing.............. walls erected on the board by board storey.............
And onward................ the painted and detailed walls of the main section..............
And on we go................. walls erected. I used superglue here and at least five hands to get them glued together...............
Onward............... the foundation and the main building............
Glued together...................I used Aliphatic Resin Glue here as it was tricky lining up the card walls with the wooden ones...........
The second floor of the smaller building coming together..........
The stone basement together with the first floor....................
And the second floor is added..................
Side view................
The tower, sheds and "bump outs" coming together...................
The middle section walls which will link the two parts of the building together. These are made from corrugated wood panels. They were painted a dark grey and then I used a sponge to add an ochre colour before using chalks and Bragdon powders. This is the first time I have used this method as I normally use Campbells aluminium duly etched. I am pleased with the result. There will further weathering when it is joined up with the two other parts of the structure.
Mike
Very nice indeed mike. Dennis
Nice job Mike.
Jerry
Everything looks awesome Mike.
Looking mightily good.
You have been busy!
Coming on a treat. The corrugated iron came up very well.
Cheers, Mark.
Hey Mike:
This is coming along very nicely. Can't wait for more.
Karl
Mike,
Great progress photos of this FOS limited run kit.
Hope the move to the new location went well and you now have more room for the hobby.
Tommy
What a great burst of progress, Mike. Everything looks excellent. I love the different materials in the basement and upper story portions. You captured each texture very well.
Well done so far.
--Opa George
Mike,
Oyster Hill is looking really great. If all looks just wonderful.
Tom ;D
Thanks very much Dennis, Jerry, Curt, Bob, Mark, Karl, Tommy, George and Tom!
The multi-floor building had to be corrected a little. However I am happy with it now. I have added the roof and cut the rafter tails. All 26 of them. I will leave that task until tomorrow. I can do Greg speed as well! The little billboard will then be offered up to the roof. The door is missing from the kit. I think is quite common as other modellers have said there's was missing too. I believe it should be a Tichy plastic one with a double window over the door. I think I have one at the other house. But as we are all in Tier 4 lockdown I cannot travel there at the moment.
Mike
Looks great Mike! I really like the variations in colors of the boards. The billboard is quite nice too. Heck, it all is.
On a different note when the news was on the other night there was a segment where your Prime Minister was speaking. My wife made the comment "Somebody really needs to get that man a comb." ;D
Love the billboard.

Boris really needs a proper haircut. I think he needs to visit my local barber "Baldies". And guess what like all taxi drivers my hair dresser knows how to run the country with apologies to George Burns,,,,,,,,,, Thanks for the nice compliments Bob................

Thanks Curt my friend.............................

Yikes, my reputation is spread worldwide..... ::) The build is looking good Mike.....watch that first step coming out those doors. 8)
Excellent work on the details on that one, Mike. Billboard also looks very well done.

Continuing...............
The rafter tails are done! Cute little suckers.
Next up was the stairs fire escape. I must admit that I cheated here. I went back to my Execution Rocks build and checked how I did it 6 years ago. I decided to glue the two platforms under the doors first before adding the first stringer. Then I added all the steps using CA. I made sure they were at right angles to the wall and correct. Then I added the second stringer using normal glue to give me wriggle room time. I will leave this to set overnight before adding the railings.
Mike
Very nice job on the stairs.
Nice job Mike,
I've scratchbuild this one some years ago....
Eric
Thanks very much Curt. I envy you the time and skill to scratch build this little beauty Eric.
Latest update.................the stairs are complete and I added a dormer. The stairs are quite tricky and I found it best to add an item at a time. Walk away and breathe. Then come back once the glue has set........I think there is another one lurking on Dead Horse Bay........joy!
Mike
Continuing...............roofing the bigger building. I think I will let the glue set overnight. The Prime Minister is probably announcing a brutal lockdown for 3 months tonight. Misery.............
Mike
There is a little access shed located on the rear roof the main building. This is made of card walls covered in metal panels. Unfortunately I did not have enough of the wooden corrugated material left. So I used Campbell's metal panels instead suitably weathered............

Oh boy..... ::)
Here is the main building almost complete. Unfortunately due my moving house I am unable at this time able to complete the diorama. I want to replicate the sloping one as suggested by Fos. However the size is likely to be 12 inches high, 16 inches deep and 36 inches long. I will complete this once I have moved home in order to avoid damaging the structures in the move.
Mike
Mike,
Great progress ! Good luck with the move and hope the movers don't reduce the structures to N scale...
Tommy
Looking good, Mike.
I trust you are moving the models yourself?
Cheers, Mark.

Cheers Mark. Yes I am going to transport the models in my car just in case.
Mike
Mike,
It just keeps looking better and better. And just think, we finished last in the first and only build contest from the old forum. Not bad for a couple losers, huh!
Tom ;D
I think you are better than me as you were second to last............Thanks Tom I hope you are feeling a lot better. :) :) Mike
All looks very good, Mike. Best of luck with the move.

Looks great Mike!!
Jerry
Thanks very much George and Jerry. I am looking forward to the move and completing the diorama.
