Title: Archive-X re-issuing Floquil Railroad Colors
Post by: Koala Creek on September 14, 2017, 05:26:53 PM
I bumped into the following , which might be useful to those who used to be fond of the Floquil Railroad Colors.

(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.koala-creek.net%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2017%2F09%2Farchivex_range.jpg&hash=98eb355e608a1c36b4f7cea0afbd6172a2f30544)

An English Star Wars modeller has started a brand called Archive-X, to recreate and re-issue the Floquil Railroad Colors. Seems that the studio (ILM) which made the models for the original Star Wars movies, used Floquil Railroad Color solvents on these models.

The first production batch will be enamel paints, but I understand that there will also be a acrylics range at a later stage.

Looks like really good stuff, but $16 a bottle, not including shipping????? Guess you have to pay for the Good Stuff...

The pricing is based on environmental concerns. At $16.00/bottle, price helps cut down overspray.

I have found Scalecoat's Concrete to be a decent substitute for Floquil's.  Haven't yet found a good match for Floquil Grimy Black though.  Maybe this, though the color in the photo looks blacker than my old jars of Floquil.

Joroen,
Thanks for sharing this info...have not heard of this product...maybe some shops here in the states will carry it soon...engine black was used by some Chicago area custom painters for steamers...

I like Neutral Grey #3 for 'Grimy Black', see http://www.goldenpaints.com/technicalinfo_neutgray  You can also get artist illustration markers in the same neutral grey palette, and that's -great- for touching up things like handrails if they get chipped.
