THURSDAY MARCH 31ST - SATURDAY APRIL 2, 2016.
Danvers, Massachusetts.
Details coming soon...
April Fool's!
Can't wait to see Friday's seminar schedule.
A short drive from a big club (North Shore in Wakefield, MA), a couple of good hobby shops (Charles Ro in Malden & Northeastern Craftsman Supply in Methuen) and the F&SM in Peabody. Not so much railfan interest as Scranton, though - lots of MBTA commuter trains and transit, Amtrak (electrified south of Boston) but no museums within an hour and hardly any freight closer than Lawrence MA. Our Tour de Chooch has included some nice layouts in the area, so I'm wondering if they'll organize tours.
And of course, very convenient for me.
Will Bob Mitchell's slide projector work on April 1st? ;D
I've been to conferences in Danvers before. It's a little inconvenient to get to, but if it's where I was before, the hotel facilities are good and the costs are reasonable (at least for Bahstun.) When you're planning travel, consider flying into Manchester NH (MHT) and driving south, as well as into Boston and driving through Bahstun Traffic.
James, will the North Shore clam places be open?
dave
Dave, few of our 'summer-only' businesses will be open until snow gets really unlikely, say about April 15. Thus, I didn't give pointers to Seashore or the Maine Narrow Gauge. But Farnhams and Woodman's in Essex, the Clam Box in Ipswich and Lena's in Salisbury are 'three-' or 'four-season' businesses and should be open.
The place by Depot Rd. in Rowley that used to debate with Woodman's over who invented fried clams has gone under.
It's on the schedule. How can you get there without Boston airport?
Dave's point about Danvers is that there is little, if any, public transit of any sort in that part of suburban Boston. Whether you fly to Logan (Boston) or Manchester, you'll likely have to rent a car or hire a limo (unless the hotel has a shuttle of some kind).
No blame to the organizers, though - Once you get beyond Cambridge, the only hotels/motels of any size I know to be less than a mile from an MBTA station are in downtowns like Worcester, Lowell and Salem.

Exactly, thanks for clarifying, James.

Well it's not like getting in and out of the Holiday Inn in Peabody, that was life threatening...
The hotel also has a very nice golf course on the property and a indoor water park if you get bored, now we will know where to look for Brian if goes MIA...only kidding Brian!
Logan Express is about 6 or 7 minutes south of the hotel and the hotel shuttle will be available to shuttle folks back and forth.

We will have a shuttle between the hotel and the F&SM.
Like Mr Jimmy said, more info. too come soon!
Hal
Oh, that place. I remember when it was the pastures and fields of "Alfalfa Farm", whose modern (for the 1950s) dairy barns and "blue tombstone" Harvestore silos still stand on the other side of I-95.
Ya James,
It's still there but now it's a winery, diagonally across the highway from the Hilton.
Something else to do, if one gets bored...

The Winery looks like a great place for Saturday's banquet.
I'll be just getting home from Florida, Friday April 1st, So I'll see all of you then. I may even open my layout for a tour for Sunday. We'll have to see what Rob says about that.

And we know where Hal will be! Across the street. Maybe you should get there two weeks earlier and give us a scouting report!!! :)Jerry
How far from Lynn is it?
In Bahstun!
I cain't hardly wait to hear a Bahstun accent on an Arkie!
More News on Expo 2016 very soon!!!
Waiting on NEWS .... !
Room is booked and registration is paid for. Now I just need to figure out how I am going to get there.
Room is booked - can I get there from here?
Does anyone have a link to the Hotel, or phone number? :-\
Hilton's gabble of marketers (kind of like vultures come in Venues) is trying to promote the hotel as a place to stay when visiting Salem, so it is no longer on the web as 'Ferncroft' or anything else it's been known as in the past. This link should get you the "Double Tree by Hilton North Shore" page:

Thanks James. Just checked the availability for the dates of the conference and apparently they are all booked up! We may have to look for accommodations at some other close by establishment. Is anyone else in this fine kettle of fish?

The hotel has blocked out rooms for The EXPO. Call the hotel and tell them you are attending the show (code FIN) or book here: http://bit.ly/1Hfvqr7 (http://bit.ly/1Hfvqr7)Jimmy

Great! Thanks Jim!
That can well explain why the online reservation system shows no rooms available for those dates.
Mrs. Caddy and I have our room booked. Haven't been to one of these since the 2008 show.
We're booked also! This will be my FIRST one of these .... and hopefully not the last. :)
I am booked as well. Making it a family event again.

I cain't hardly wait to hear a Bahstun accent on an Arkie!
Don't hold you breath - Between health issues and the busy schedule of retired (or is that retard) folks, I won'tbe bringin' my tacky-ass humor again this year! I had hoped to, but is just ain't gonna happen!!Besides, I can't never leave my Southern Redneck accent at home!!!

Too bad! You'll find out that Yankees aren't half as bad on their own turf as they are when invading the South... :-)

My brother lives a quarter mile away at Ferncroft condos so my commute will be easy Loooking forward to it

Sounds like it is going to be a good show. Any clinic info yet? I may want to upgrade.

If you truly have a "southern accent", the word would be "cain't" leave my.....
You would never have gotten through security at Logan with all them Stars n' Bars luggage stickers on your grip, anyway!
Pretender!!
The "FIN" booking code for the Doubletree does not seem to be working.
It's not a Southern drawl unless you put a minimum of 3 syllables in the word "mint".
So I better get started on plans for this show.
Will George Sellios allow photography once again?
Jaime
I'd sure like to see this fine show come out west once every few years. Am I the only one? : )

At first I thought "I drove a good way west to Scranton", but I guess that doesn't look like much from the Lake Missoula shoreline...
Another thing that's west of this year's show is the Hub Division's Spring Training event in Waltham, MA on Sunday, April 3. The train show won't be as big as our Marlborough show next month, the focus will be more on clinics: Bill Darnaby is the headliner. It's right off I-95 near I-90 so easy for Expo attendees going home.
