I will be starting a scratchbuild of the station that was in New Lisbon, Wisconsin. All the material are here and I just have to modifly the plans slightly to fit my layout.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1252.JPG&hash=a52bf3b7e342d3b639a431f7797d4885a7863924)
8)
That looks like a big-*ss station!
I'll be following along! ;D ;D ;D
The original was over 150 feet long. The model is only going to be 100 feet. I have to whittle 50 feet out of it somewhere.
8)
Looks to be a nice build. I'll keep my eye on you to.
Jerry
I think I have the plans where I want them. I will be breaking the structure into three pieces, the baggage room, the main station and the pavilion. I have the front and back baggage room walls laid out and cut out.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1254.JPG&hash=75564859ab91d9e445dbf255adf2f9a6a340668a)
8)
The bracing is on these two sections.

8)
Andy,
I'll be following along also. Looks like a great build. Thanks for sharing.
I have all the walls braced and painted inside. Also assembled .
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1260.JPG&hash=56c90139532211a1fd4a82852f8aabcb5b65d4f7)
8)
Really nice looking build! Even "whittling out"...er...selectively compressing...50' it's still a big building.
Andy looks good so far. I'll be watching this build.
Jerry
Front and back walls of the main building cutout.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1261.JPG&hash=449fca62822c5a8dbab4fed99f16ac5193eacc67)
8)
End walls all cut.

8)
Andy nice job on that. Nice coloring and my that is sure a big building.
That is HO right???
Jerry
Yes Jerry it's HO, and thanks!
8)
Andy,
Excellent start! I'll be followiong along with the others. This is going to be a nice station. Any colors as yet for it?
Tom
Tom, thanks!!
It will be the standard light gray with dark gray trim .
8)
Front wall of the bay window cutout.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1265.JPG&hash=c7ed4ef23b23a1d889be863a56ba0b0a360ee627)
8)
The side walls for the bay are done. It was to hard to cut them out of a solid sheet so I made them using four smaller pieces.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1270.JPG&hash=af49b834cc89deb6ec30e5194d0051351cc9f6c0)
I also had to cut up two Tichy windows to make them fit the openings.
8)
Cool looking build!
Is that a ginormous block of granite you are using as a display stand?
It is a machinist's surface plate, perfectly flat. It is red granite
Bay window area assembled, painted and attached to main building.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1271.JPG&hash=40850c30343341747efd34d8c56eb134ea9c9470).
8)
The walls for the station are stucco, I will be using Liquitex, ceramic stucco for this. I did a sample board using two different shades of gray. I will be going with the bottom lighter one.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1273.JPG&hash=603918cbac12ce45e1877ed29b2f526bdd745743)
8)
I added a 1/32 by 1/8 basswood strip along the bottom to act as the concrete base.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1274.JPG&hash=d5a1ef224c11079974a8d9b67345ca625b71768c)
8)
Andy,
Looking good. Thanks for sharing.
You are very welcome Bart. Thanks for looking!!
8)
The end wall caps are all on using 1/32 by 1/16 strip wood. The small curved pieces were cut out of styrene.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1275.JPG&hash=18e40a6aecf4a2c828e21e489a494f126ef6ce89)
8)
I like the granite block you build on -
gotta find me one of them! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Hey Gnat, you can find them at any machine tool supply house. This one cost a little over $300.
8)
I set aside the main building and will finish the baggage room first. I added the station sign base and painted the trim. I can touch this up after the stucco is finished.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1276.JPG&hash=2032f65ca11df0f7634664d49d0adba30a57b3bd)
8)
Andy nice job. Like the foundation. Looking forward to seeing how that stucco looks.
By the way it's not snowing here in South Jersey!!! Yet!!! :)
Jerry
Jerry, it stopped here for now.
The stucco goes on next, wish me luck!!
8)
Andy a pleasure to follow along.
I've done stucco so it should be a good follow. Maybe you can explain the steps as you go along.
Jerry
Jerry, As I stated before I am using Liqutex ceramic stucco, it was recommended by a few folks here on the forum. It is super easy to do, just paint it on.
before paint,
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1277.JPG&hash=2bd44d9239fb3a6b1846ccc2cee456ff0bcc260a)
after it dries you think you ruined the piece, but after it is painted,
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1278.JPG&hash=bf7f0c03b181bbf78783d219107e22cb6876dcff)
I am a very happy model railroader!! ;D ;D Now to fit the doors and windows.
8)
Great thread. Stucco is used on Doug's new Moscone Bail Bonds kit. Mine has been shipped and is in transit. I wonder what he has you use for stucco. Gonna go out and get some of your Liquitex and give it a try. Jaime had good results with it, too.
Dave, This was my first attempt at stucco. I tried a few of the other methods but didn't like the outcome. This product gave me just what I was after. I bought it at Michaels, it's a little pricey at $13 for 8 oz. but you only use a very little bit.
8)
Andy looks good.
How about a close up so we can see the detail in the way it lays on?
Jerry
I'll try Jerry, but my cheapy camera won't take very good close ups.
8)
Stucco on the main building and painted,
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1282.JPG&hash=c16acd43677d2e93f0e76ba69b13e1c01e6265a5)
Jerry here is the best close up I can get,
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1283.JPG&hash=5bff0de85f73ec5b84ca47367581f0780b43b2ac)
8)
Really nice effect!
John
Nice Andy. really gets the effect across. Thanks for the blow up.
Jerry
You are welcome sir!
All the doors and windows are in.
front,

back,

8)
looking great Andy and that's one long Depot
rich
Hey Rich, there still is 20' veranda to be on the end.
8)
The roof and chimney are on the baggage room. I used sandpaper for the roof covering. The plans state that it was tarred and covered in rock. I tried on a sample piece to use white glue and fine ballast but it just didn't look right.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1287.JPG&hash=58cf86ad13117ffd6c83e98cb847300eefc08d54)
8)
Andy, that is looking really nice!
Thanks Brian ;D
8)
Andy that is coming along very nice work.
Jerry
Finished the shingles on the back half of the main building. Using Rusty Stumps dragon scale shingles.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1288.JPG&hash=51a0055d96f62de632f620614b81a252a7de98b5)
8)
Main building all roofed and finished, just have to add a chimney.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1290.JPG&hash=f4d25bf64f94abba66ef85152e0ad3b333a442f1)
now to start on the veranda on the far left end.
8)
Andy,
Have to say that this is looking SWEET...
Thanks again Bart.
8)
I have the veranda roof all framed up. A coat of paint and I can get the decking on. The roof is covered the same as the baggage room.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1291.JPG&hash=31d4b2b99768f51cf786d7f868f3163c32532094)
sorry it is a little blurry
8)
Made the support posts for the veranda.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1293.JPG&hash=e50ee66029f62bfe087c040f869097c57b88cb1b)
Then some paint, the roof frame, some sheeting and gravel and you get the veranda.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1294.JPG&hash=11a501451c0a87bc1aa7e7b9c6d6fb2a22c4bf13)
8)
Added the veranda to the other pieces.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewhistlepost.com%2Fforums%2Fgallery%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FDSCF1295.JPG&hash=3d68a47320d0ef3ed5a64d5b7c50aaf7c7c4a195)

8)
That's beautiful and llonngg!
Darn, your layout's got to be a lot bigger than mine to fit that in. :'( :'( :'(
Waiting for a piture of where you put it! ;D ;D ;D
Dave, keep checking the Milwaukee Road post in the layout section.
8)
Andy nice job. Looking forward to seeing it on the layout.
Jerry
Hi AK;
Well done. I like what you did with it.
