Hi All:
Here' a water tank I built from an article in MR. It Was build a water tank from an oatmeal box. It was in O-Scale so I had to scale it down to HO.
Made my own shingles with pinking shears and added individual cap shingle instead of paper strips. Tank is of individual boards. Hope you like it.
Karl
Great Karl , but please tell me it's not actually made from an oatmeal box, if it is WOW.
Hi Jan:
No the oatmeal box was for the O-scale version. Glad you liked it.
Karl
That's a beaut, Karl
Very nice detailing.

Karl
Hi All:
This is my scratch built over the tracks signal tower from the F&SM..
Karl
Hi All:
Scratch built Gate tower from either MR RMC can't remember.
Hope you like it.
Karl
Hi All:
Scratch Built Boston & Maine yard office from MR Or RMC. That's all for now still have plenty more. Made my
own shingles with pinking shears. There were no Diamond shingles made at this time. You had to make your own.
Built 9/20/1994.
Hope you like it.
Karl
Hi All:
Out buildings scratch built from Barongould's tannery.
Karl
Hi Al:
This is one of my favorites. I believe Mike Tylick built the original for his RR. Karl O. provided the Callahan's signs for me. There were no plans used. All done by eye. the interior was the most fun.
Karl
That is some great bunch of stuff, Karl. One of the buildings from the tannery looks very familiar...
Vilius
Hi All:
Here's scratch built Bruno's Garage/Casey's Battery Co. from the F&SM The Lettering is done with Dry transfers and they are highlighted with paint.
Karl
Just curious Karl , between work and modeling structures did you have any time left for other things? What a great collection.
Hi Jan:
Except for Callahan's the rest of the structures were built back in the early 90's.
Karl
Hi All:
Scratch built block from The F&SM RR.
Karl
Nice set of scratch buildings Karl.
Hi Dustin:
Thanks appreciate the compliment. This one was at the left end of the block. Scratch built from the kit.
Karl
Hi All:
Here it is as installed on my layout. All buildings in the photo are scratch built.
Karl
Karl,
You have built a ton of great models over the years!!!
Frank
Karl
They look great as always. Frank I think Karl may be closer to 2 tons of structures - every one a masterpiece.
Is that the state of your layout now Karl , or is this an older photo?
Karl,
Great looking scratch builds. I've placed them all in my Karl S. folder for future reference. 8)
Tom ;D
Great work Karl.....I really think you're getting the hang of building structures! ;) ;D 8)
You know you've made the big time when you get your own folder to be stored in.
Hi Fran & John S:
hanks for the compliments. Much appreciated.
Karl
Hi Jan:
Nope the layout is gone. It's a TV room now.
Karl
Hi Tom:
Cool. Thanks for making a folder of my models.
Karl
Hi Greg & Donato:
Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.
Karl
Karl,
I'm in Quakertown/Lansdale for Thanksgiving. Would enjoy the opportunity to see your handiwork.

If you knew what information was in my folder "they" have, someone would get hurt and national security would be a thing of the past. Oh wait, to late for that! National security that is.

Maybe we should put Tom's folder on the forum for all to see. I'd sure like to see it.

Actually, I'm not sure we all have "Want to Know" for that information....
dave
oops - I seem to have started something here! ;) I'm sure I don't make the "need to know" list on Tom's file. Tom "Thank you for your service"!
John,
You are welcome but honestly when I was the Special Operations Commander for the Orlando Police Dept. it wasn't like being in the Armed Forces.
However, today its a different world out there. For today's officers, it's a thankless job with no respect from a majority of the citizens, most local elected officials and especially our POTUS and the DOJ.
Nuff said on the subject.
Tom ;D
I do have a file of over 400 pictures of Karl's structures. Here is one of my favorites.

Hi Tom:
You have 400 photos of my models??? I had no idea I even took that many. The one you posted is a copy of part of one of Brian Nolan's buildings. I built it for my best friend. It's in his living room. I built it once before. Don't know who has that one.
Here is one of my favorites that Karl scratch built.
Frank
Hi All:
Also one of my favorites. The Glue signs are from an actual color letterhead from the Royal Glue Co. The main structure is from an article in MR. Everything around the building is from FSM Kit #275 Duffy's Coal Yard. It was a fun build on my desk at the Post Office finished on 6-11-94. A short 21 years ago.
Karl
Some real neat structures, Karl!
Cheers, Mark.
The main building for the Royal Glue Co. is from a Rob Corriston article. It is the Argus Tap and Die.
The Argus Tap & Die Co.
Magazine:Model Railroader 1981-04
Page:68Category:Structures - IndustrialScale:HO
Description:A wood L-shaped building that can be used for a small business or light industry. The author describes how he built this structure. Includes model photos, and scaled and detailed drawings.

Karl,
Yes, Just over 400. I have about 460 total but the other photos are part of some of your build pictures.
Now I have 405 with the ones Frank just listed. I've never seen that one before. All wonderful models by a Master Builder.
Tom ;D
Frank,
Thanks for the pictures of the Royal Glue Co. I've never seen that build before your listing. I've added that to my file as well.
Tom ;D
Hi Frank & Tom:
I figured someone would know what the article was. Thanks Frank. I was going to take photos of that one next but now I don't have to. I'm honored that you guys have all these photos of my models.
Thanks:
Karl
Here is another scratch build by Karl.
Frank
Here are some others for another Rob Corriston article.
Frank
Frank,
Thanks for the additional photos of more of Karl's great model builds. I've added them to the folder as well.

Karl,
I have the folder so I'll have a picture of the color combos and pictures of the fantastic modeling you've done.
I also have many other folders of other modelers works as well. You however, have more pictures in your folder.
Tom ;D
Here's another picture of the farm house.
Tom ;D
(https://modelersforum.com/gallery/24-261115203808.jpeg)
I really really love that farmhouse, now to duplicate it in N-scale.
HI Guys:
The blue structure, Fenstermacher's (German for Windowmaker) is a semi scratch build. The large building is a Campbell kit with some minor modicicationms. The two small blue buildings are scractch builds from FSM's Barongoulds Tannery. The J. F. Fenstermacher sign is from a B&W letterhead from that company I bought at a flea market.
Karl.
I'm with Jan. They're all fantastic but that farmhouse is perfection...the stonework, the lattice, the shingles...all great!
John

Karl,
Although this thread started out as your scratch build models, many of the pictures I have are of photos you posted of finished models. All great stuff and a fantastic source for future modeling projects.

Just WOW! Great modeling work - thanks for sharing it with us.
Hi Guys:
Thanks for the compliment John S.
The sign was changed because the blue was the way our local RR (The Reading Co.) did it. The walls were laser cut for me by a friend. This station is from The F&SM RR. I scratchbulit the rest.
Karl
Hi All:
This may have been my first scratch build. Not sure. Built back in the 90's of my post office desk. It is also came from the F&SM RR. I built it cause I loved the signs. Here's a few photos.
By The way George's model had brick walls.
Karl
Hi All:
Here's a photo of my scratch built Richfield Station on The F&SM RR. More photos of the original diorama later.
Karl
Hi All:
Here's pics of the original diorama. George disassembled it to fit it on the layout.
Karl
Karl,
Thanks for the added structures. I'm still looking for the ones you have on Howard Zane's layout.
Tom ;D

Tom, what are you implying about Bar Mills kits when you say " ALTHOUGH a Bar Mills kit". Is there something I should know as a newbie?
I think he means it is a kit and not a scratchbuild.
Frank
Hi Tom:
Yes Frank is wright that was a Bar Mills kit that I think I built. That structure was from an article in, I think, MR called the house on the hill. It has also been used in some FSM kits. I think I posted one under my blue buildings.
Karl
Hi Tom:
Here is the diorama I gave to Howard. He split it up and the diner is in one spot and the gas station is in another I believe.
Bubba's Diner and Gas Station built from Campbell stone. An old 1950's Ideal kit was used as a basis for the Bubba's Diner.
Karl
Hi All:
Here's a couple of scratch built billboards that were going to become Wales Junction Scale Signs kits. But it never happened. I think I built one of each for George and they are on The F&SM.
Karl
Hi All:
Here is my scratch built General Store. Frank B. made all the signs for me. Can't remember how many years ago I built. I believe somebody manufactures a kit of it now. Can't remember who.
Karl
I looooove that store. Do you happen to know who makes it now?
I gotta stop looking at this thread. I'm already demolishing my layout and every time I see another Karl build, I change my plans to accommodate something like it. ;D
John
Hi John:
Sorry I don't remember who makes it. I know its one of the smaller manufacturers.
Karl
The kit is done by Banta modelworks.

Yes, as Frank and Karl said, it isn't a scratch build but a great model by Karl all the same.
I see you were paying attention. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Nothing negative about Bar Mills or Artie. Bar Mills are wonderful kits and Artie is more than wonderful. He is always excited to speak to any modeler and certainly gives us models that are quite different than others. I've never seen him without a big smile on his face and is quite willing to give his modeling techniques to others.

Karl,
Thanks for the photos of the diorama you did for Howard. I have hundreds of pictures of his layout and don't remember either one of the builds. I know the small gas station is by Chooch as I've built one and still have it.
I'll go through my photos again, maybe I missed them.
Tom ;D
Hi Tom:
Thanks for the reply. Maybe he took them off the layout.

Tom and Karl
I will take a look at the photographs I took at Howard's - for some reason it looks familiar.
Hi Tom And John:
Here are photos of both on Howard's layout. That is not a chooch gas station. I scratch built it. As you can see it is made of Campbell stone. As I said he disassembled the diorama and move the building to separate spots on the layout. These are photos I took at Howard's the last time I was there. I have lots of others also.

Karl,
Thanks for the photos. I thought it was the Chooch gas station from the angle on the diorama. I do remember this station but for some reason I was looking for another type structure.
I'm still looking for the dinner in my photos. Thanks for the update and all the great models.
Tom ;D
Hi Tom:
You are welcome. I believe the diner is in a rather obscure spot. Kinda up high towards the back.
