Vilius
Nice kit Karl.....I'll be looking in. :)
Karl,
You are not done yet? There is hardly anything to be built!!!!
Frank
Hi Frank:
Nope not yet. Been doing research and scrounging parts for the extra add ons. Waiting for chain from George. We've been on the phone and he's been doing measurements on the add on stuff for me. My side wall with tall door was in two pieces. The Door Spacer at the bottom of the wall helped greatly in its repair. On my way to Michaels to buy more stuff.
Me
Hi All:
Corner trim is being added. Next is 1/8" Sq. bracing.
Karl
Hey Guys:
The corner trim is installed and walls are dry-brushed with antique white.
Karl
Here's some photos of the icing platform on my layout.
Hope they are of some help.
I followed the kit instructions when it came to painting.
It's a fun build.
If you look closely I tried to replicate the figures and details as per the photos that came with the kit.
Cheers
Bagman
David,
Very nice build on you icing platform. I followed the instructions in the kit as well but left off the platform railing so i could ice reefers from both sides.
Tom ;D
Hi David:
Nice job on the ice dock. Thanks for the pics. You can never have enough of those.
thanks:
Karl
Impressive Dave .... love the "melting" ice effect and the wet spots on the decks.
Thanks for all your kind comments guys.
Look forward to seeing more of your build Karl. You always seem to be able to turn a structure kit into something unique.

Karl
Looking good Karl. I talked to George today and he told me he is watching your progress.

Karl
Hi John:
Thanks. Apprceiate your comment.
karl
Hi guys:
Got a lot of work done today. The ice house itself is finished. All Handrails are installed. I am making changes as to the way the icehouse looks on the F&SM. I added hand rails on the long and short platforms. Also Added freight door on the rear. I also lengthend the door operating rail. Next is the large platform. Here's photos.
Karl
Karl, a very nice build.
In the 1st photo, what is the framed door-like thing on the facing wall.
HI Martin:
If you are talking about the one you can't see it is a simple wood door with z bracing. It opens inward which is why it can't be seen. I'll post a photo of it this afternoon. Thanks for the compliment.
Karl
Karl, I was thinking about the one beside the sitting guy, on the same wall he is resting against.
Hi Martin:
That is A tall 2 part door. The Top Is propped open leaning inwards.
Karl
Looking very nice, Karl.
Enjoying watching your progress.
Cheers, Mark.
Hi Mark:
Thanks for the compliment. Glad you are enjoying the build. Got some work done on the long platform yesterday.
Karl
Karl
Hi All:
Working on the large platform. Have one side built and the other is on the way. Here's a photo. Thank goodness for weights.
Karl
Coming along very nicely Karl. Giving me some ideas to improve my own model.
I also like the subtle weathering. Very nice !
Cheers
Loving it Karl , and you can never have enough weights can you.
Looking great Karl, like the colors

Karl
Hi AK:
Thanks appreciate your compliment.
Karl
Good morning Karl.
I have not had much time to watch the forum but I did across this post and like I have said in the past, your work is supurb. I picked up this kit a couple of years ago at Trainfest and it is the next project I am going to start after I get the rest of our club modules base construction completed. I plan on incorporating this into one of the modules. Thanks for posting this build and again, GREAT JOB. This gives me a number of ideas.
☺☺☺☺
Hi Bart:
Kep watching for the extra stuff that gets added after the original kit is finsihed. I will be making the additions George made to his on the F&SM RR.
Thanks:
kARL
Hi All:
The long platform frame is assembled and I've started adding the boards to the tops.

Can it get any better .... I'm sure it can .... and will. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Hi Donato:
Thanks appreciate it.
Karl
Hi All:
got the walls done fro the small building on the end. here's a photo.
Karl
Karl,
What sizes of wood did you use to build the ice moving device on the platform ? Where did the chain come from and what size is it ?
What is the footprint of the new building on the right side ? The added items are really changing the look of the original kit.
Really nice work !
Tom
Hi Tom:
sizes of wood are as follows:-----1/6th X 3/32nd Long pieces, 3/64th X3/64 for the real short pieces top & bottom And .020 X 1/16th between the chain. Chain is from a friend. probably Campbell.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Building at the end of the platform is finished. Here's a few photos.
Karl
Hi Guys:
finished up the detailing on the platform.
Karl
Hi Karl

Karl
Karl,
This build is absolutely wonderful. The extra building and details change the look drastically, all for the better I'll say.
Tom ;D
You never let us down Karl , great work as usual.
Hi John:
Got the photos Thanks.
Hi Tom:
Got the page 33 stuff. Thanks. Glad you are enjoying the built.
Karl
Hi Jan:
Glad you are enjoying the build also. I finished the platform a few minutes ago here is a photo for you guys.
Karl
I hope to one day have your talent and build like yourself, amazing !
Ken
Hi Ken:
Thanks for the very nice compliment. All I can say is ask questions. That's how you learn.
Karl
Karl,
Looking great!!!
Frank
Hi Frank:
Here's an updated photo. Anything crooked in photo has been fixed.
Karl
Great work Karl.....love the melting ice effect. 8)
Hi Greg:
That dried up and didn't show. It was wet when I took the photo. I redid it with 5 Minute epoxy (Followed the instructions) and it came out great.
Karl
It deserves this :

I always enjoy your work Karl. This was my first FSM build and I still have it but I won't show you a photo of it anytime soon. At the time I think I was quite proud of it. Maybe some day I'll fix it up with some of the refinements you have added.
Nobody has mentioned this nor do I see it in any of the photos, but as I recall George included a small bag of little rocks that he said were to be glued to the foundation with white glue. Mine didn't turn out so well as the finished foundation looked just like someone glued rocks to a slab- didn't look right without any grout! I long ago disposed of my instructions so I don't remember if George had suggested a grout or not.
I sure like your version better than mine.
WOW11111 Donato that's really cool. Thanks.
Karl
Hi Mike:
Thanks always appreciate hearing from you. There was no rocks in my kit.
Karl
Hi All:
Decided to make it a private ice company that serves the RR. It is now Abie's Ice named after my 2nd wife's father Abel. He worked in the ice business at one time.
Karl
I think it's great to honor family and friends with items named after them.
Looks great!

When I build my icing platform (hopefully before I die) I will name mine after my Grandfather (same name as mine) he delivered ice in Brooklyn in the mid 20's before he returned to Italy. At that time, immigrants got into a particular business and employed people from the same town or region from the "old" country. Ice delivery back then was capitalized by immigrants from Puglia, Bari specifically. So if you had an iceman, chances were he was Barese.
Hi Donato:
Nope he was about a German as they come.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Here's a few progress shots. Base is cut and track is laid. Lower platform is finished except I forgot the handrails on lower steps. Will take care of that next.
Karl
fantastic as always, Karl!
John
Hi John:
Thanks your coment is much appreciated.
Karl
Karl,
Most excellent my friend. Super addition to the kit. I've made notes to upgrade mine when it goes back on the layout.
Tom ;D
Hi Tom:
Thanks for the compliment. It's a bit of work but worth it. I still have to build the office building.
Dropped it on the floor last night and had to make repairs on the lower platform. Fortunately didn't get hurt to badly.

Hi Guys:
Glued it down and added scenery except for where the office goes. Not in the photo.
Karl
Hi All:
Here's an unprogress photo. I ripped it of the base and totally rebuilt the lower platform and it was just to fragile and collapsed under the scenery. The legs and framework were just to fragile.
Karl
