Title: A New 25' Long Town Is Built on the F&SM railroad. "Wellington"
Post by: tct855 on January 03, 2016, 08:57:19 PM
In this recession, one town managed to be built next to the city of Franklin.  Town name is Wellington.  A pretty neat railroady name if you ask me.  George is absolutely a master craftsman in any language.
So if he's thinking about winding down on manufacturing kits, he most certainly is not winding down in creating structures or building his layout.  Like Jim Carrey,  I'm glad George has an outlet for his craft also.
Yes! you heard me right.  George is a funny man also.  Who else can come up with so many timeless interpretations of life in such an animated format.  Funnest thing to me, is even tho I'm fortunate enough to work with him from time to time.
I still understand and every bit appreciate watching what he'll do next.  George is so down to earth and humble that when we're together or even just a phone call away, he still will ask me and others for help or ideas or even take suggestions.
So for me there's just a little extra excitement in seeing pictures and even the layout in person, because I got to add a small piece to this "World's Greatest Hobby".  Here are a couple simple pics of what you'll see upon entering the layout just through the door on your way to greeting George!

Tom,

Thanks for the pics.  Looks like George made most of the structures out of paper.  That is sure one way of getting many buildings done quickly.

Frank,
You are correct.  Most of the buildings are paper sided due to the tight clearances of 3" to 1' deep.  One thing we both found out with the paper sides, is when filming light is easily reflected back.  Even with 2 coats of dull coat, it still gives a sheen.  The next time I take pictures I will have to take with lights positioned at sharp side angles.  I'll tell yah the isle is only 28" wide, not even in spots.  T...

Thanks for sharing these pictures Thom. I agree that it's always exciting to see which direction George will go with the F&SM, next.

Thanks for letting us know Thom. Though I've been to see George's spectacular creation several times, I'm having a hard time figuring out where this is. Did this new section replace something? The hallway at the top of the stairs didn't seem wide enough to accommodate even a one foot deep addition. I'm really looking forward to seeing this at the Expo.

Mike,

This is right along the area that you walk into the layout on the left.  George just removed the back of the layout and built the scenes right under the existing layout.  He did not add any bench work as you mention that area is quite tight as you come in from the door.

Neat idea to build the buildings around the support posts.  Thanks for the pics!

I'm sure it has nothing to do with my visit to the F&SM in April last year, or the book of NZ scenery I sent George as a thank you, but the capital city of New Zealand is Wellington - and I think that is pretty cool!

Cheers, Mark.
