one of the main focal points is going to be my light house. every bay area has them and with my layouts mains area being a bay scene this is one that I have been waiting to build. I have looked around for a good bit of time and decided to go with the rocky point light house from laser art. I started out with a wash of a&i on everything on the main building I used a sponged on a layer if hudson red and all the trim I used american acrylic wash white

Nice kit and good start.
Great looking kit! Looking forward to your progress.
I built it in N Scale...one of my favorite kits. Careful with the roof details, they're delicate (probably more so in N).
Enjoy!

Update
So after the Hudson red dried i decided to also add a light wash of Crimson red calligraphy ink wich gave a nice 2 tone red wich looks faded. I did the same in white for the trim. Braced the walls and painted inside black.

Thanks Andy. I would have liked the seem to come out a bit beter but I like it so far.
Enjoying your thread. I'm sure you know this but I might suggest you brace the heck out of that tall tower...I've found those long runs take a beating when the humidity kicks in.
Sometimes I'll suggest an AMB/Laserkit or Branchline kit for someone who's new and is intimidated by the prices of other craftsman kits. They'll come to one of our club open houses and we'll talk structures. For newbies, though, these kit instructions say nothing about bracing and I hate to see their early efforts start warping on them and scare them away from the hobby.
Thanks for the build thread! :D
I did use alot of bracing. I here ya . Alot of work for it to warp
I'm enjoying the build - real nice looking structure. I know how those out of town work trips cut into the modeling time.
Hi Ruty:
I started this kit over a year ago and it still isn't finished. Jack Ellis one of the Bar Mills guys showed me how he finisihed the roof on his. It looks really great . You may want to give it a try.
Dormers:
1) Piece of copy paper on each side of roof about 1/8th inch wide.
2) piece of .020 Plastic 1/8th wide on top of peak.
3) Finish with a piece of .035 Floral wire .
The only difference in the main peak is a piece 1/16th Square Bass between the plastic and the wire to give some height.
Here's a photo.

Karl...
I get a lot of mileage out of floral wire...... I'm surprised more people don't use it.
Piano wire has too much body and fights me at every turn........ floral stays where you put it and if it gets bent a bit it goes right back without hurting anything.
thanx
Bob
Hi Bob:
You are welcome.
