As fast as you build I think you should build them both at the same time. It was great seeing you at the EXPO Karl.
Hi JOhn:
Thanks was nice seeing you also.
Karl.
Hi All:
I'm back to Sewall's Foundry. Was wondering if any of you guys have some nice photos of it on the F&SM. If so would much appreciate seeing them. They would be a great help to my build.

I went back to the start of this thread and read down.
You make me laugh....
You read the instructions ?!?!?!?!?!?
After all of the great stuctures you build.......... I can't believe that there is anything out there that fools you or slows you down ! ! !
great stuff.......thanx
Bob
Hi Bob:
Well I sorta read the instructions if I have a question if you know what I mean. Do I rad them word for word. No. Here's a few photos of the assembled walls. Hope you all like them.
Karl
Hi All:
Just talked to George S. He said It looks good.
karl
Karl,
I didn't think you read the directions, I always thought you wrote them :o :o ;) ;)
Jim
Hi Jim:
Nah my command of the English language ain't that good.
Karl
Karl, did you follow the stone painting instructions in the kit, or did you do something different?
They look great!
Bob C.
Hi Bob:
The are Concrete with Dak A&I Wash. A few Stones are painted earth. Basically as per the instructions.
Karl
Hi Karl
I did a quick search for pictures of Sewall's and found these four to get started. I know I have more and will search deeper into the pictures tonight.

Karl
Hi All:
Here's a work bench progress shot. Buildings are not glued together yet
Karl
Hey! John or Karl! Did anyone notice that the first big pic John posted of Sewel's, there's a cutoff wheel piece in front of the truck? George wanted me to thank John S. for locating it for him. It's been missing for the last year or so. ha. See John, your pics do make a difference...

Well that's one way of the pictures being helpful. It is amazing how George looks at the details in the picture.
Ha, lol.
George looking at details is what he's all about. ha. George thought it was priceless and wanted to say thank you for finding it. Now what else can you find? ha. I think George is missing a kitchen sink! Thanx Thom...
Amazing, I was wondering what that could have been.
Tom 8)
Hey guys:
I'm sorry its all my fault I asked for the pictures. And here I thught it was just another detail by George. Just kidding.
Karl
Thom
You better get that screw driver off the building in Dovertown before George finds it!
Just kidding!
John,
That's not to far off the mark. A couple years ago I was working on a crossover switch with George, and left a file in the gauge of the track. With running trains cars were uncoupling and derailing. We couldn't figure out why, right away. I told George I'm probably going to have to walk the track, checking for a broken rail or something. 3 trains later I saw one bounce and had my ah-ha! moment!!!
Thanx Thom...
Karl
Here is a little F&SM history for you and a picture of Sewall's from a Mainline Modeler article the George wrote.

Hi John:
Thanks for the Pic. Here's some progress photos. Building B is glued to building A. Working on the main roof. Roff is on Building B. I dry-brushed the stones with light gray. Let me know if you think they look better.
Karl
Karl,
It's coming along nicely and the walls look better. They looked good before as well.
Tom ;D
Hi Tom:
Glad you like and also glad the walls look a little better. Thanks.
Karl
Hi All:
Got A little more work done on the roof. Cupola's and dormer is on. Here's a few photos.
Karl
Looking good Karl!
It's really coming together nicely, Karl.
Jeff
Hi John & Jeff:
Thanks for the compliments. Finished the roof details since my last post. Hope they look OK.
Karl
Karl,
Looking really good!!!
Frank
Hi Frank:
Thanks buddy appreciate your comment as always.
Karl
Some nice building young man. I like the stone walls and your coloring. Are the walls hydrocal, resin, or wood? Probably not wood since lasers not used much when Sewall's appeared. See if you could lightly dry brush a little off-white in a small area you could easily fix if you don't like the effect.
Really sorry I only got to spend a few minutes with you at the Expo. In the old days we would have probably closed the saloon a night or two.
Hi Mike:
Thanks for the post and the compliment. The walls are none of the above. They are cast metal. I will try dry-brushing with white and see how it looks OK. Yeah sorry we didn't to spend much tome together either. Hopefully the next time we see each other OK.
Karl
Karl,
Hope when the time comes around to complete this yellow box build, ( mine is about 1/2 done ) ... your photos will help finish up my build here.
Only thing that was changed was the clapboard walls done in green instead of red so far....will follow along for the ride....Thanks for sharing !
Tommy
Hi Tom:
You are welcome. Glad to have you aboard.
Karl
Hi All:
Got A lot done yesterday and today. Main buildings A B And C are assembled & glued to the base. Added track, platforms and casting. Hope it look OK.

Karl
It looks great. Another wonderful build.
Karl,
Looks better than OK. It looks fnatatstic.
Karl....can't say it enough.... FABULOUS!!!
Another great build Karl.....it's a neat kit and it looks wonderful in your scene. 8)
The only thing that bothers me about the kit is the exterior stone walls on the 2nd floor over the loading dock. That is one massive load on those beams and not something that would generally be done in the 1:1 world. To make it work, there would have to be some serious steel H beams and columns to support the stone walls. Just a thought.
Karl,
Up to your usual standards!!!! Great build!!!!!
Frank
Yes, def. a great build! Re. the comment about the stone block load- I wonder what the structure would look like with Plastruct I-beams placed under the second floor to represent steel supporting beams? I am sure somewhere at some time there was/is the prototype for this building!
Hi Janbouli, John S., Steve Drees, Donato, G P Demayo, Frank Bernard, And Bob C.:
Hi Guys thanks for all the great compliments. They are appreciated as always. Working on the traveling crane at this point.
Karl
Karl...
Great stuff..
thanx
Bob
Hi Bob:
Thanks your welcome.
Karl
Hi All:
Structure area is finished. Did a little scenery and castings around buildings A, B and C. 1 crane bent is finished,. Working on the next one this afternoon.
Karl
Karl,
You are in the home stretch now. Looking really good.
Frank
Could you provide some notes on how you do scenery around and between a completed model like that gantry crane?
thanks in advance!
dave
Hi Dave:
sure.
1) spread full strength white glue on surface and apply Highball Real Dirt.
2) Soak with alcohal as a wetting agent.
3) Add Woodland scenics scenic cemnet. Come as a liquid in a bottle. Add Add A light coat of Dirt over top and Woodland scenics green foam.
4) Then add the rest Using white glue and scenic cement.
Karl
Do you do that after the model is completed? The problem I had (my FSM 155 old time coal dock) was spreading dirt underneath all the footings/trestle work.

dave
I have never gotten as far as this step myself but I would think that if you had another set of footings for the gantry/trestle/etc you could use them as a place holders and then scenic "over" them.
Karl,
Thanks for sharing your build... ;)...Nice work ! 8)
Tommy
Hi Dave:
Here's what I do. When I'm ready to glue the building in place I put it on the base. Then I trace around it including all platforms or place where dirt has to go underneath. I spread white glue in the platform areas and apply dirt there only. Next apply glue to bottom of structure and install it on base and over the dirt under the platforms. Hope this helps.
Karl
Thanks, Karl, that helps complete the picture in my mind. One thing i tried (and don't rank as successful) was to make the concrete footers removable from the structure. The theory was I'd spread the glue, position the structure with the footers in place. Then I'd remove the structure, leaving the footers glued to the base, and finish putting dirt around the footers. The problem was that I couldn't get the structure to come back and sit perfectly flush/straight on the footers. That's probably says bad things about the accuracy of my modeling :-(
dave
Hi Dave:
You are welcome. Glad I could help.
