I have wanted to build this kit since it came out, Brookside ice house by JL Innovative Design. I finally broke down and bought it, so now I have to build it.
The box,

Andy,
It's getting warmer out, could use some ice... :) . Nice looking structure for a great price. Will follow along too ! 8)\
Tommy
Hey Andy:
Yep its out ofthe box. I'll be watching your build.
Karl
Andy, It is going to be 109 in Tucson on Saturday. Hurry up with the ice. I will be checking in for progress reports.
Sorry to be lagging on this guy's. Had in-laws here for four days and not much time to model.
Seeing that it took me a whole lot of years to finally build this kit I thought I would try something different and follow the instructions. Since I have been mostly scratch building it is very difficult not to just charge in and build, but I am getting better at it. All wall sections have been braced and painted with Apple Barrel, burnt Umber. I thinned it down alittle to get the different shades.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FBrookside%2520ice%2520house%2FDSCF1829.jpg&hash=d28432a67ca2f4e9804bdee2e11afdd4df10fa89)
Hi Andy:
Looks like the walls are painted and look good. Will be following along.
Karl
I finished up the large wooden doors. I used Apple Barrel country tan for the color. The same will be used for all the trim

It looks like your moving along now - I like the colors.
The colors sort of follow the picture on the box. I have the end caps on the walls and assembled them.

in the back of the second photo you can see the office addition drying. Now to put these aside and build the copula on the roof.
Hi Andy:
looks like you're off to a good start. I'll be following along.

Thanks Karl
Copula is finished except for the roof. The kit wanted me to use cardboard for the base but I changed it to scribed basswood. Starting on the ice dock.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FBrookside%2520ice%2520house%2FDSCF1834.jpg&hash=99671510399f7651a137d0b2ebea3fb251cebe9e)
I have the deck and legs for the ice dock assembled. Now to get them stained and put together.

looks great, how did you paint the walls? I normally sponge everything. Looking for a new technique.

Not a new method, I used a brush
Hi Andy,
I need some ice this weekend. It is going to be 115 degrees on Sunday. Frank/Eireman, is going to be more also. It is probably going to be 120 degrees in his neck of the State.
Sorry guy's we are not ready for business yet
Andy,
I realize your following the instructions and doing a fine job of it by the way. But, I find it odd the manufacturer would create an ice house with dark colors. One would think that exterior walls would be painted in a light color for sun reflection. Granted the prototype building was insulated, but every bit helps. Just an observation.
You are doing a very nice job on the build and your workbench looks to be very organized, hence the accuracy of the build.
Bob
Bob, Thanks for stopping in!
I had the same thought about the color but it looks good in those colors.
The ice dock is stained and assembled, working on the railings next. The kit comes with Central Valley steel railings but the plans and the picture have wooden ones, so I opted to build wooden.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FBrookside%2520ice%2520house%2FDSCF1836.jpg&hash=f770edc70e7719e3480cc73bc30c1014b17187d0)
Finished up the wood railings and added the lights and poles.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FBrookside%2520ice%2520house%2FDSCF1837.jpg&hash=52f2d77fe89cb587c895fe77323520bb88330771)
now on to the truck dock.
Hi Andy:
Looks great so far.I'm following along.
Karl
Andy,
Progress looks like it is going well. I like what you have done so far.
Thanks guy's!
Ditto to what everybody else has been saying. I'm liking this build.
Thanks again guy's
The truck loading dock is done. As you can see in the back stairs are next, they are Central valley stairs and railings. They need to be cut to size then painted.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FBrookside%2520ice%2520house%2FDSCF1838.jpg&hash=5f0c04ce8edd0279bd0f78ff2d8e511654bc62ce)
The stairs are all cut, primed and painted, now on to the roofs
It sure feels like this kit is taking forever. I did a little bit of roofing. still have the copula and office to do.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FBrookside%2520ice%2520house%2FDSCF1841.jpg&hash=5a949ff43b628339714980a94d3c0b1e5a126d3f)
The kit comes with cardboard for the roof covered with strips of construction paper. I opted for basswood and masking tape
All the parts are starting to come together, couldn't wait to get some signs on.

Looking very good, Andy.
I like it ;)
Andy,
Really nice job on the Ice House build. Looks good so far.
Tom ;D
Hi Buddy ;)
That ice house is looking sweet. As you know, I have always had my eye on that kit, and you sure are bringing it to life! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks buddy, I see you found me here, glad you joined in. The folks here are nice people and some of the best modelers I have seen.
Just to let everyone know, I met Steve on the old Whistle Post forum, we have been friends for a few years. He is an excellent scratch builder and his shelf layout is to die for. Hopefully he will post pictures of it on here.
Hi Andy:
She's looking pretty nice. Like all the cool signs.
karl
Thanks Karl. I really like signs.
Ice House is finished, now to get it on the layout and finish the scene. Still waiting on one item to get here.

I like the final result Andy.
The loading dock colour looks excellent. Is a lovely build!
Cheers

Great job Andy..... 8)
Thanks to both of you, and thanks for looking
Looks great Andy!
What are your overall impressions of the kit?
Nice job.

What are your overall impressions of the kit?
Steve, I thought it was well thought out, instructions were good. It was 50% laser cut and 50% stick wood you have to cut. Tichy doors and window, central valley stairs and railings, a small bag of detail castings. The only bad part for me was the cardboard for the roofs, I just made them basswood. I am glad I bought it and built it.

That sounds like a great kit. I like stick wood but I would not want to do everything that way. I think you have done an excellent job (as usual) bringing this kit to life ;)
Thanks again Steve.
