Title: Micro Structures?
Post by: JimF on June 19, 2016, 06:43:59 AM
Anyone built on of their metal kits?

I have the Diner kit, as well as the lighting kit, that I bought years ago. Having worked with photo etched stuff for some military modeling, and a couple of UK rail items, I'm confident in my skill level for the building part.

However, I've not a clue as to how or where to start the painting process.

Just figured I'd ask.

Jim,

Aren't there any painting instructions in the kit?

I built a small brass water tower I got at one of the past Expos. I just washed the parts in warm soapy water, rinsed in clear water, let dry and then used Floquil paint.

No problems at all.

Tom,

No, no ppainting info. The instructions are just a double sided sheet, pretty much just exploded diagrams. If this were a wood or brick structure, I'd have a better idea. But it's a stainless steel type building, and hard to tell what and where paint should go, and whether before of after folding parts.

I popped a email off to Miller Engineering, hopefully I'll get some info from them in the near future.

Try  a soak in white vinegar as  is slightly acidic and will clean and etch the surface for a good bond.
