Hi All:
while I was at the expo I suggested Doug do this as a separate kit and he did it. So I'm starting it today.
Here's a photo of the kit.
Karl
Karl,
You know I'll be following along.
Tom ;D
I'll be watching too. :)
Mmmmm.....I'm ready!! I will be watching too!

Following along , is this a part of one of the bigger kits?
Donato...
What is this the pink eye test or do you just have your eye on us all? ? ? ?
see ya
Bob
Hi Tom, Gregory, Pollux, Donato, Janbbouli And Bob:
Thanks for all the interest. Glad you are all following along.
karl
Hi All:
yes this is from the large Oyster Hill Kit. Doug's model is a light blue color. Included is a ohot of his kit and a paint sample I made up for you opinions as to which one you like best.
Top: Gray stain with Duncan Wedgewood Blue dry-brushed over top,. Then A&I And dry-brushed with gray.
Bottom: Full strength Ducan Wedgewood Blue, A&I wash And dry-brushed with gray.
Top may need more blue.
Let me know what you think OK.
karl
Karl, I think you are right, the top color does need more blue.
Jim
Karl, this a couple steps away from your normal palate of colors. I like the bottom sample.
Hi Jim & Raymo:
So far we got one of each.
Karl
Karl
I will be following along - I agree with Raymo on the color - but what do we know.
Karl,
I think a lighter grey base, with a heavy dry brushing of the blue and then some AI. Then dry brushed with antique white will capture the color you are looking for.
Frank
Hi John & Frank:
Thanks for the input.
Karl
Karl,
I agree with Frank, a lighter gray with the blue dry brushing.
Tom ;D
Oyster Hill , so I have that building too, even more interesting to follow then.
I like the bottom color, would be something else compared to your normal greens.
Hi Tom & Janbouli:
Appreciate the input.
Karl
Karl,
Have many craft paint colors in the shops here...Folk Art, Delta Ceramcoat, Apple Barrel, Americana, Anita's etc...never heard of Ducan Wedgewood Blue, did google that name...are you using a color stain used in ceramic and pottery making ? Or is this a new brand of craft paints ?
Please let us know...Yes, like that bottom color sample one too !
Tommy
Hi Tommy:
I believe it is a paint that the ceramic hobby people use. Very difficult to find.
Karl
Hi guys:
Well here's a painted wall. It doesn't look like this in person. In person its a nice light blue. This color does not photograph well or something. Its painted a light gray then dry-brushed heavily with wedgewood blue and light blue. Then dry-brushed with gray. Do I need to go back to the drawing board???
Karl
Hi All:
As I said doesn't look so good in the photo but I'm kinda happy with the way it looks in person so I'm going with it.
Karl
Nice color Karl , you can see the blue when you click on the photo and see it larger.
Hi Janbouli:
Thanks appreciate it.
Karl
Very cool little structure. That small peaked roof is a cool detail.
I like your top color sample, I always prefer darker tones though.
-Steve
Nice!! ;)
Karl,
The color looks good to me. It appears to be a very similar color to the TAMIYA Acrylic Light Blue #XF-23.Tamiya paints are easy to get and find. I used it on Jeff Groves Concord Street House.

The color's great...go with it! 👍🏻
Hi Steve:
Thanks. Went with a totally different scheme. Kinda looks like the 1 Tom posted.
Karl
Hi Pollux:
Thanks appreciate the compliment.
Karl
Hi Tom:
That looks just about like mine. Here's what I came up with as the final scheme.
1) Painted walls with a light gray.
2) Heavilly dry-brushed the walls with Light blue and wedgewood blue.
3) Added nailhole and A&I
4) Lightly dry-brushed wall with light gray.
5) windows, doors and corner trim are white.
And as I said looks almost like the3 photo of the building you posted.
Karl
Karl,
I like the light gray and brushed with the blue you did. Like you said, not many structures look good blue or are blue.
If I remember correctly, I applied the A&I, then very thin Tamiya Sky blue and dry brushed with Floquil Antique White and then a final light coat of A&I.
I'm looking forward to seeing how your color turns out on the structure.
Tom ;D
Looks good Karl. I posted before I saw your finished color scheme.
-Steve
Hi Tom:
Walls are painted and assembled will take a photo later to see what you think OK. I think it looks like the building you posted.
Karl
Hi Steve:
thanks appreciate your comment.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Here's the pic. Hope it looks OK.
Karl
Karl,
The color looks wonderful. Very close match, if not the same, to the Tamiya paint. Very well blended my friend.
I'm starting to do a thread on the other FOS like structure, the Juniper Freight House. QK#37

Hi Tom:
Glad you like how it looks. I was a Little skepticle about it. Thanks.
Karl
Hi
guys:
Roofs are done. The small peaked roof was a bit of a challenge. I tried a few ways till I came up with a fairly easy method. I cut triangles from the roofing paper same as those on the roof card. Cut the roofing strips on the lines. Apply thin coat of white glue to each triangle and put the roofing on. Applied folded strips to the corners. Put tar around the seam. Looks like need a little more. Then added finial. Dry-brushed the roof.
Looks great Karl.
Tom ;D
Hi Tom:
Thanks appreciate the compliment.
karl
Hi Guys:
Started working on the platform. This is a firs. Laser cut template for the platform supports. Easy to deal with and not long to assemble. Thanks for this idea Doug.
Karl
Hi All:
Did some more work on the kit. I added rafter tails for interest. Not included in kit. Also tried something I never tried before. I attached my platform boards with 3M 465 tape and it worked great and cut the time, probably, in half. No gluing all this tiny edges.
also had some extra 2X6's so I added a horizontal brace on the platform supports.
Here's a photo.
Karl
Hi Guys:
The building is finished. Next is detail the freight dock. I tried it again. Used 3M tape to apply rafters to bottom of roof and the glued roof in place. Boy did that save some time with gluing all those rafters in place. I keep finding more uses for that stuff.
Karl
I've used transfer tape on decking but not for rafter takls. Great idea. Shininess must not show?
Karl,
I have been following your Burdick's Build. I have a few of questions about the paint if you would be kind enough to answer. I can get Duncan without any problem. Is there a plus to using the Duncan paints over other craft paints.
When you started the painting process
Light Gray is it Duncan or A & I or Floquil (DRIFTWOOD/GRIME/CN17GRAY)
LIGHT Blue is it Duncan?
White Duncan?
If there is an upside to using Duncan I would like to order the paint & have it ready when I start my build of the kit. Look forward to your answer

Cool!!!
I specially like the colour on the loading dock. Very nice build, Karl ;)
Hi Dave:
Thanks. Yeah I just thought I'd try it and it worked great. Shininess is on underside of roof and can't be seen unless you turn model upside down and look hard.
Karl
Hi Mike:
No plus to using Duncan. It was just a different color I had around. I used a combination Of Duncan #OS48 Wedgewood Blue and FolkArt #402 Light Blue.
Where do you get your Duncan paints?
The Gray iis Apple Barrel #20526 Country Gray for dry-brushing. A&I is used over finished paint before dry-brushing.
Hope that helped.
Karl
Hi Pollux:
Thanks Loading dock is just dark A&I mix.
Karl
Hi All:
Burdick's is finished. here's a final photo. Very fun to build and will be among my FAVORITE FOS KITS.
Karl
That's a clean and tidy build Karl. Very nice ;)
Hi Pollux:
Thanks appreciate you compliment.
Karl
Nice little structure, Karl. The blue came out great.
Jeff
Hi Jeff:
Thanks appreciate your compliment.
Karl
Karl,
The Freight Dock finish looks perfect. Very Clean & natural (not rundown) weathering.
The Structure looks very Small Town USA were everything in the little town comes & goes via rail using this little structure
I found Duncan on E-bay. bargainbobstore offers DUNCAN OSKIT-1 12 colors for $34.74. If Duncan was the new craft paint that everyone was going to use I was going to order a set to try.
What is your next build going to be
As always looking forward to fit
I do have a question
Before you apply any acrylics to a basswood wall do you prime the wall with a Floquil product such as Driftwood/CN17/Earth or our you using something different these days
Thanks
Mike Sigmon
Jacksonville, FL
Hi Mike:
Naw I don't prime just paint the walls the color I want them. I mostly use hardware store sprays now. Found several good colors. The new build FOS Methias Metal Spring & Wire. See photos under it in Kitbuilding. Used primer white windows, doors and trim. and primer red oxide for walls. Wil;l use the Applebarrel gray for dry-brushing.
I believe Duncan is used by the ceramic artists.
Karl
That came out great Karl , blue suits you well ;)
Hi Jan:
Thanks glad you liked it.
Karl
nice building looking great
Good build Karl.....neat little structure that adds another switching opportunity for a layout. 8)
Another winner Karl. You put me on to the 3M transfer tape about 10 years ago and I probably use it almost everywhere like you do. But I never would have thought of the rafter tails. And you are right you wouldn't be able to see any shiny areas between rafters in any normal viewing situation.
Using the tape for decking or on the bottom row of shake shingles can result in shiny spots if you get the spacing too wide. Spraying the roof card flat black, or using a dark brown or black "Sharpie" (at least the borders and edges) helps a lot before the tape goes on.
And I really like the blue!
Hi Greg nad Mike:
Thanks for the compliments. Here's a final photo of the kit. Opps wrong thread.
Karl
I'm not a fan of overhanging parts, but that building all 'hangs together' ;-)
dave
Hi Dave:
Thanks.
Karl
Another fine build my friend. Someday, I want to see a video of you doing one these builds. I think we will have to run it in slow motion to see what you are doing.
Looks great, Karl.
Jeff
Hi Guys:
Thanks. That isn't Burdick's it's Mathias's I stuck the photo in the wrong thread. I also put one where it belongs.
Thanks for the compliments.

Karl,
Another really nice build !!! ;)
Found out that there is really a Wedgewood Blue color available in the local craft paint section ! Some stores may not carry it...Don't have it yet, but will pick it up soon and give it a try since the one you used is hard to find ! 8)
Tommy
Hi Tom:
Thanks. I will try and get a bottle.
