Title: Build Challenge 2016 - Walther's Midtown Oil
Post by: jimmillho on November 16, 2016, 03:46:54 PM
While waiting for some replacement parts from Walther's, I thought I would build another of the Walther's small laser cut Buildings. This one is called Midtown Oil, so here goes.

The first pictures are the parts, the wood and the castings.  This is not much different from all the other kits.  A bunch of laser cut sheets, windows and a few castings.

The first thing is to remove all the walls from the laser cut sheets, smooth the edges .and add the bracing as recommended.  As son as the bracing was dry, I painted the walls with Floquil Reefer White and the windows, doors and trim with Floquil Big Sky Blue.  The floor was stained with Floquil Oak Stain and the roofing paper shingles with Grimy Black.

Now to begin the assemble.  The windows and doors were installed and the roof was started.
I did not take pictures of the roof during the installation, but that was the biggest pain the tail I have run into in a long time.  The shingles were precut (almost) from sticky back paper and had to be put on one row at  a time and then cut off the excess.  After the four sections are shingled and assembled, then come the cap shingles, one at a time.  Very Time consuming and they don't stick very well.  I also painted the castings and the Oil Storage Tank.

The walls were assembled, the signs finished and installed on the roof.

All the rest of the details were added and the build is now finished

This was a fast and fun build to fill the three weeks it took to get the replacement windows for the Redlon Welding Build.

I now have this building setting on the layout with all of then other buildings I do not have a place for.  I think the next thing for me to do is clean up the layout and try to fnd a place for all the buildings.
