Now that Karl is building in N-scale , I thought I'd do the same build in H0
The parts of Bar Mills Majestic Hardware in H0

Jan,
I'll be following along. I've always like the BM Majestic Hardware building.
Tom ;D
ooohhh...many many years ago I built a Majestic Hardware (before my Bar Mills Days...)
I made some plans for variuos add ons for this building and posted them on the FSM yahoo group. Took a look...and holy cow! they're still there!
see if this link works...
file:///C:/Users/JimMooney/Downloads/Majestic%20hardware.pdf
This was a great build for me also. If I remember, I had to add a small piece of stripwood to cellar windows to have them fit tightly..... will be watching your build!
Thanks Tom , Jim , Bob , so far it's going together very well .
Bob the windows are a bit loose , I fixed that by putting tape on the inside of the walls and then pressing the windows in place fixed to the tape.
Jim , that link is to the file on your computer , we won't be able to download it. And I am very interested to see it.
Jan I have this kit I will be following.
Go for it Jan.....I'll be watching. :)
I'll be following along, too. Looking very good thus far, like your color choices.
that's weird...
Well, what you can do is go to yahoo groups and search for the FSMfiles group (might need to join it)
near top middle of page is a menu item called files
under the list that appears is a link called Jims pdf plans...majestic hardware pdf is in that list....lots of other stuff too...
I can post some pics if you don't mind me photo-bombing your thread...

Don't mind at all Jim
ok , I'll give a try....
ok, that worked here's other side...
is it possible to post pdf's?
Thanks Jim , you added several things to the structure that are not in the kit , I like that.
I sent a request to join the FSM group.
Applied window shades first and then assembled the walls.

A little bit of dry brushing.

Started assembling the roof parts.

ok, there is a bunch of those groups there is the original finescaleminiatures group, FSMfiles (because original ran out of file space) and a FSMpix group
I think that this was the only fully tab and slot structure kit that I put together. I loved those wood windows that Bar Mills used to use, was sad to see those go away....Your build is coming along nicely, enjoy watching your progress!
Hi Jan:
Glad to see you doing this in HO. Let me know how the fit is on this one in HO OK.
Karl
Thanks Bob , I like lasercut windows better then plastic ones too , well at least in H0 , in N-scale lasercuts are often either to thick or they break easy.

Karl
Thanks for following Karl
Thus far the fit is near perfect, I only had to cut away a bit of the roof where it touches that small dormer. The fit of the building to the foundation is spot on if you keep the corner trim flat with the inside.
I don't have this one in N-scale , going to try to find it for my layout.
Hi Jan:
Glad to hear your fit is good so far.
My biggest fit problem on the n-Scale kit was the tower that goes between the two roof. Let me know how that fits OK when you get to it.
Karl
Jan,
It is really coming together nicely. I have this on the shelf and have always been a little wary of it, glad to see that everything fits well, at least this far.
Thanks Jerry , now get that kit from the shelf and build it. ;)
Jan,
I'd love to, but life keeps getting in the way.

Jan,

I don't remember where I read it, but a long time ago there was an article about going to your workbench every day, even if its for only a few minutes.... I try to do that during my busy weeks and its actually a good thing.... the little bits of time add up over the course of the week for whatever project that I am working on. For instance, this past week I would go to the workbench before I left for work and glued two wall sections together, or primed some castings... just about 10 minutes. When my day off arrived, I had all these little things complete and was that much further along in my build.
Bob,
Great advice, and something I do try to fit into my day. When I have only a few minutes, I try to plan some kind of painting project, primering castings, Dullcoat on a freight car, etc. That way when I do have time to model, I don't spend time waiting for paint to dry. At least, that's my excuse for how many half done projects clutter my work area, and why I am reluctant to start another kit before completing at least some of the unfinished ones.
Nice build Jan. :) 8)
Stay cool and run steam......... 8) 8)
Jan the build is coming along nicely. Are you going to use the Bar Mills shingles on the roof?
Great work Jan. Keep building.
Jim
Thanks guys I really appreciate it.
Jerry , that's what I try to do too , even if only a few minutes , it keeps me going and then when I have some more time at hand I don't want to be doing the little stuff , I want to be building walls , roofs and the likes . That is only possible if I do all the small stuff in between.
Like yesterday evening all I could do was the roofs.
Jim to answer your question.
Tar paper roofing and shingles , the shingles were meant for a few places where replacement had been done , but I kinda like the higher part of the structure with a shingle roof.

Tar paper painted Tamiya Neutral Grey , the shingles first color is Vallejo Wood.

Hi Jan:
Very nice so far. I'm very interested to see how the tower fits in that roof notch. I had a fit problem with the N-Scale version.
Karl
Painted the white metal castings in the kit , not sure what some of them have in common with a hardware business.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.janbouli.com%2Fimages%2Fh0%2Fimages%2Fgebouwen%2Fmajestic%2Fmaj15.jpg&hash=fcd58c72248db939a79190448760ab2bb6440915)
Some more roofing done and the towers placed. Just a little pressure and a bit of sanding needed to make everything fit.

Hi Jan,
The project is looking great. This is the first model I built when I got back into the hobby after I retired several years ago. I have been building eve since.
I really like the color you chose, Jan. You are really making some good progress with this build. Keep posting photos!
Thanks Bob,Steve,Bob
Jan,
Really good to know that everything fits with just a little sanding. Thanks for posting that.
FWIW, this building was an article in one of the model railroad magazines quite a few years ago. The prototype was actually a retail feed dealer, not sure why Bar Mills chose to name it Majestic hardware.

Thanks Jerry , that explains why the details are sacks of rice and crates with bottles and such things.
Hi Jan:
Looks like your doing quite well with this one. The tower fits nicely. Keep up the good work and keep the photos coming. Like the colors too.
Karl
Thanks Karl , appreciate the compliment.
It's been a while but I'm back , I did another H0 build in the meantime and it will blend into this one, more about that tomorrow.
Corrugated roofing painted and weathered.

Assembled the roofed docking area, and the tower now has tarpaper and wood lining.

Airbrushed the sign , came out okay , some A&I and weathering and it will look good. Also tried the smaller sign , but it bled too much.
