Hello everyone,
I just got finished building the CCK Deignan & Foscale kit. Jeff Grove was nice enough to send me this kit as a prize for the Forum Build Challenge Fall/Winter 2016.
I changed the color scheme and renamed it The Grove Pharmacy. It was a very straightforward kit to build, I think it took me a few hours total spread out over the last week or so.

This is the original design of the kit.

I colored the walls with Floquil Reefer Gray. I decided to leave the awnings off, I may add some down the road.

I found this Quaker Oats sign off a Google search.

I made the pharmacy sign in Serif Draw Plus. All the signs were printed on my cheap Epson Inkjet printer, sanded down and scored along the clapboard lines.
Thanks again to Jeff for the kit. I'm starting work on the streets of the town on my layout and this will fit in perfectly.
Thanks for checking in.

Looks great Steve , the signing the weathering , I like it. Maybe because it's a stand alone in the photo's that I do think it would look better with awnings, if it will be in a row of buildings that might change my view on that.
I love the color that you chose, the signs came out great. When I look at buildings like this up here in the Northeast, I see the window trim painted the same color as the building. Someone told me that this was common as it was cheaper to do. Post some photos when you "plant" this structure!
Great looking build Steve! Your choice of color is perfect, looks like it could fit any where on the F&SM.
Fantastic job...I, too immediayely thought "FSM."
I'm glad you renamed it. I'm suing Groovy for using my name. Trying to capitalize on my popularity!
Foscale didn't mind. He said he needs the publicity and if it helps him to sell a kit or two, he's fine with it.
Nicely Done Steve!

...beautiful job Steve!!....
Jimmy is so silly, that kit was named after the Duke of Deignan, who founded Deignansvania in appallacia West Virginia....they sent the scourge of the nation to this area to govern themselves...the Duke of Deignan spent his days looking for soda cans for recylcing....his nickname was Sticky Deignan....I wonder tho if jimmy could be related to the Duke??....
Super job on the build Steve and a really nice looking kit Groovy!
Hi Steve:
Very nicely done. I like the colors you choose. It's up to your usual standards.
Karl
Nice build Steve. I like the colors you chose for it. Jeff did a good job in designing this one, and you did an excellent job building it.
Well done Steve. 8)
Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Thinking it would fit on the F&SM is one of the best compliments I could get.
I'll also echo the good choice of color for the building.
I like it without the awnings though.

Jimmy strikes me more as a descendant of the Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl. 8)

The build looks great.
I really like it.
Thanks guys!
Steve, would you be interested in sharing more about how you got that look and tone? You mentioned the paint used. How 'bout more on your technique? Thanks!
No problem Dave. I used a razor to split some of the clapboards first, then I used a thinned out wash of the Floquil Reefer Gray. I don't mix up the paint in a jar, I thin it by dipping my brush in the paint then into a jar of diosol. I prefer nail holes on most clapboard siding, I think it adds some needed texture to a wall. Just a personal preference. After that is a wash of A&I followed by some off-white dry-brushing. The signs are just sanded down and cut along the clapboards to make them fall into place.
Thanks so much for sharing. That look is excellent. Getting some scrap out to practice on. Thanks again. 👍🏻👍🏻
