Title: Quick gondola upgrade.
Post by: Zephyrus52246 on November 07, 2017, 08:35:49 AM
I purchased a wood floor for my Rapido gondola at the EXPO.  It is from ITLA scale models.

The gondola comes with a grey plastic floor.

Superglue the new floor to the old and, voila!  It looks a lot better.  There are little tie down nubs at the base of the interior sides the floor needs to be "snapped" under.  I did this by pressing with a 1/4 inch piece of stripwood.

The Rapido car is really well detailed.  But if you own one, be careful, the side girders come off really easily with handling.  I had to replace about six that came off when I took it out of it's box.  I knocked a couple more off putting in the floor.  The girder has come off where the two white lines are.

Pretty neat.  It certainly makes a huge difference in the appearance of the car.  Now weather that puppy up and toss in some trash, dirt and a little debris.   ;)

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, guys.  It was really easy and quick.  I spent more time fixing the broken off girders.  Bob, I thought of weathering this with Pan Pastels, but as easily as the side girders come off, it'll need airbrushing, and I'm not really good enough at that yet to try it.   :-\

I hear that.  I'm comfortable using the airbrush to paint solid colors but haven't tried my hand at light layers for weathering (yet).  I have a few victims on the workbench to experiment with.  One of these days I'll pull the trigger (airbrush trigger that is) and give it a try.   ::)

Don't forget to wear proper safety equipment when you do....
