Hi Alll:
I will be building Bar Mills Tylcik Tool Co. The top photo is of Jim Mooney Diorama. The 2nd photo is the one I built when the kit came out.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Ok got the walls cut from their carriers and also mixed my paint 80% Signal Red and 20% Boxcar Red as per Frank Bernard.
Karl
Nice choice, Karl - I'll be watching.
I might be wrong here - but I think I remember reading that a box car will not fit under the second story floor, and some foundation modification is called for if you decide to add a track and want to spot box cars here. Again - just something I think I remember but could be completely wrong!
Cheers, Mark.
Karl,
Looking forward to your build. Glad you are using the color combination that I originally did.
Frank
Following along Karl , looks like a neat kit.
Karl, I will be following along
Does this kit come with plastic windows
Mike Sigmon
not 'spose to red...it's CN17 gray...look at the box!
no plastic windows...
was looking at my original drawing and I measured a 40' box car I had and it shows 2" from top of rails to bottom of second floor and 1-1/2" wide
in color..
Thanks for joining the challenge Karl. Can't wait to see this built at the end of this week... ;D ;D
Hi Mark:
Thanks for the input I will check that measurement out.
Karl
Hi Mike:
No all windows & doors are laser cut.
Karl
HI Frank:
Glad to have you aboard.
Karl
Hi Jan:
Thanks for following along.
Karl
Hi Raymo:
Thanks for following along. I doubt it will be done by the end of the week.
Karl
Hi Jim:
Thanks for the measurements. I'm doing mine as I did before in red. Check the kit photos.
Karl
Hi Guys:
The walls are stained with Floquil Driftwood stain. Yep I still actually have some.
Karl
Karl, count me in as one of the following...
hey Donato:
Glad to have you aboard.
Karl
Hi All:
Painted the walls red. Used thinner and paint to cause some of the gray underneath to show through. Was wondering if they look ok. Maybe I will finish a wall and see how it looks. However, am looking for opinions on how they look at this stage.
Thanks:
Karl
I like the color but maybe a little bright? Some India ink wash would help, I think. But then, I'm a faded paint junkie.....
Wow , Karl bright red , now that's something we don't see from you every day. I'm quite confident you will get a bright red building to look great just like your normal green ones. ;)
Karl,
Off to a great start and I also agree the red TO red. Maybe more of the Floquil Driftwood will help tone it down a bit.
I only have three bottles of Driftwood left. And, I'm working on the CD for you.
Tom ;D
Hi Karl
I just found your thread and you already have the walls painted. I agree with the comments so far. A little tone down may be in order. I have the same problem with yellow - it usually turns out to bright until I wash it with a tone down color. I will be following along.
Holy Plasticville Batman! You better hose 'em down with some CN17 gray!!!!
Hey BTW
was looking at my files and finally found the plastic that almost fits in those holes...It's the ones from Graves Elevator...they're a little smaller though.
If you would be willing to burn those red walls (!) I'll cut you new batch with smaller holes and send you the plastic windows...(and acetate cut for them!)
this is a pic with new windows...
side by side comparison
Just a note. I like the yellow leather dye from Angelus. 15349-1

nice, will be following along. built this years ago but was thinking of a re- do to see if. could make it better,,,,,
Hi: Vince, Janbouli, Tom, John S, Jim Mooney, Ed & BobC:
Thank for the compliments and joining in on my build. It will be delayed for a few days as Jim is recutting the walls for me so I can use the plastic windows.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Talked to Jim. The walls and windows are on the way.
Karl
Karl,
Jim got them done fast.
Tom ;D
Hi Tom:
Yeah they are on the way. I figure I should have them in a couple of more days. I will be changing the color of the walls from red to CN Gray as per Jim's suggestion.
Karl
Hi guys:
New walls and windows arrived this afternoon. I'll back at this one tomorrow.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Received new walls from Jim. Windows resized for the plastic windows. Color has been changed to CN gray per Jim's request. Corner trim is added. Walls are braced. Big sign is added, nail holes are done and A&I wash has been applied. On to the next step.

Hi John S:
Thanks appreciate your compliment and you following along.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Got the walls, windows, doors, signs and shade done for the left hand building.
Karl
Very nice modeling Karl.
Karl,
Jim might be right with the suggestion of CN Gray. CN Gray looks good with the sign. I do not know about you but I would rather use plastic windows in HO Scale
Can not wait for your next step
Mike Sigmon
yeah I gave it a quick glance and didn't think about it too much, then remembered it was the plastic windows. They look good, nearly identical..cool...
Hi All:
Made some progress in the last few day. Hope you like it. Here's a few pics.
Karl
Great modeling. I love that huge sign.
Hi curt:
Thanks buddy appreciate the compliment.
karl
I think Like is not the word Karl , love is better.
Karl,
hey Karl, it is looking good!
Karl,
Looking good. Too bad the red did not work out for you. I really like how my model came out in the red. Here are some in process pics of my pilot build from 2004.
Frank
Hi Jan, Steve & Frank:
Thanks for the compliments. Much appreciated.
Karl.
Hi Guys:
Here's a workbench shot of my progress.
Karl
Nice real nice!
Jerry
Great looking build.
Hi Jerry & Curt:
Thanks much appreciate it.
Karl
Hey Karl- I just caught up with your adventure of the red walls and as always am enjoying your build. It is looking superb. I knew this looked familiar as I have one downstairs that might have been the second kit I ever built.
Hi Mike:
Thanks for the compliment. The red wall versions is Frank Bernard's. Post a few pics of yours here. Love to see it.
Hi Guys:
Got some more work done today. Rolled roofing has been applied to the roofs and painted SAC Bomber Green. The seams aren't showing in the photos but they are there. I think the light was to bright on the photo.
Karl
Karl,
I just got caught up on this build. Looks great, as usual. I'm always in awe of how your colors compliment each other.
Very nice job Karl.
Hi Jerry & Curt:
thanks for the compliments. Much appreciated. Just finished up the roof on the right building. It is painted SAC Bomber Green, A&I wash with gray dry-brushing. stack has been painted Railbrown with its silver showing through. Tar is Apple Barrel Pavement Black. I dipped the stack in it and put it on the roof. Result very nicely shaped tar around the bottom.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Got A little more work done today. Left main roof is on painted and weathered. Also glued the two buildings together. On to the traveling crane when all is dry. Hope she looks OK.
Karl
Looks great Karl, I always wonder if it's the way you take photo's that make your builds look so tidy, with the immaculate white backdrop and such.
Karl,
Yes, what Jan said and I'll add, just perfect.
Tom ;D
Excellent modeling, really top notch.

Karl
Looking good Karl, vey nice.
Looks great, Karl.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Mark.
Hi Steve & Mark:
Thanks for the compliments. Much apprecaited as aleways.
Karl
Karl,
I have always liked this kit, and as usual, you are doing an outstanding job!
Hi Jerry:
Thanks for the compliment. Here's a photo of the awnings installed.
Karl
Karl,
I have to admit the structure looks fantastic in gray.
Just a question
In HO Scale are you glad that you were able to do the windows in plastic?
I know why some of the kit MFG do laser however I for one at age 69 would far rather build a kit in plastic
I guess that is one reason I like FOS & FSM & CCK & I am sure there are other kit MFG that also do plastic.
Doors are not that bad however sometimes some laser cut doors to me look a little out of scale in thickness
Mike Sigmon
Great looking build Karl.
Karl
Another great build. Fantastic!
Hi Mike:
Yeah I prefer the plastic windows over laser cut also. I have 17 days left as a 69 year old. These widows are the ones Bar Mills had made for this kit. Jim Mooney sent them to me.
Karl
Hi Curt and John:
Thanks for the compliments. I appreciate it as always.
Karl
Hi Karl
That is a fine looking build you have there.
Great coloring and weathering. Nice work on all the little details that you had put on awnings etc.
Jerry
Neat structures Karl.....can't wait to see it when you add the scenery & details. 8)
Hi Greg:
Thanks for the compliment. I'm getting there.
Karl
Karl....I think you're already there!! Nice Job....
Karl,
The CN Gray paint job is almost perfect
If you brush painted do you thin the paint any or did you air brush on the paint
Been studying the last photo & love the build
Mike Sigmon
Hi Jerry, John S., Donato, And Mike:
Thanks for the great compliments Much apreciated.
Mike:-----Walls are brush painted with full strength paint from the bottle, the A&I & dry-brushed with antique white.
Thanks: Karl
Hi Guys:
Haven't got much done as my work room is torn apart having a new outside door installed. Also had a tooth pulled and it is also not going well.
Here's a photo of my last bit of progress. Hope to get back to this by Tuesday.
Karl
Karl, Forgot to thank you for how you painted the structure
Mike SIgmon
Hi guys:
Well the new door in my workshop is finished. I got back to the model and finished up the structure. Castings and the front foundation under the left building have been added. Nex is to put it on A diorama.
Karl
Karl...
Great build......
Thanx
Bob
Hi Bob:
Thanks appreciate the compliment.
Karl
Karl,
Another great build. I especially like the way you tied it all together with the chalking/weathering of the roofing and siding.
Beautifully done Karl. You nailed the colors and weathering as usual!
John
Hi John:

Karl
