Title: Help on slate shingles
Post by: bob the builder on January 10, 2018, 07:11:53 AM
I am going to need 2oo sq. inches of slate shingles. Are there any reasonably priced one or should I make them?  I am building John H. Murray & son coal pictures on kit building forum.  Thanks

Rick,
I am partial to the slate shingles offered by B.E.S.T., they look good and are priced reasonably, IMO.

I agree with Jerry, the shingles from BEST are a nice choice

South River Model Works (although Bob has retired) is still offering some roofing materials that they had left over from their many kit runs, I think. Slate included. Check out this link:

Bob,

I agree with Vince re: SRMW Shingles. I have build many of Bob's structures and several scratch built structures, many of which have the slate shingles from SRMW. Bob produces a quality product.

I think it's Bollinger Edgerly Scale Trains. Check out this link:

For the long Cigar Factory I did (for Craig Bisgeier), I special-ordered UNassembled paper shingles from Northeastern Scale Lumber.  Normally these come pre-assembled/glued together into chunks about 4x6.  But it's hard to combine a couple of those to get a good looking long run.  I draw up and print out guide sheets (horizontal lines at the right spacing), attach those to the subroof and then attach the paper shingles to the guide sheets.

To finish them, I use Pan Pastels and drybrushing.
