I wanted a nice station to go with the Tower from N-scale Architect , a few weeks ago I won Canaan station from Branchline on ebay Germany, although like the Tower it is not prototypical , I am going to use it for the Rock Island CC Line, it will be a station at an interchange of the Rock Island and the UP, in real they didn't have the one station , but on my layout it will be this Union Station
The box, you can see that this is not your average size N-scale kit.

Instructions , partly in color , with some nice prototype info and easy to follow instructions.

All the parts , at first glance very intimidating , when I'm done we'll know if it's a hard kit to do.

Let's start building
Started by taping the base to a lazy sue , this will make it easy to work on the kit from all sides. Glue the 2 base pieces together.
The inner walls glued to the base and to each other , with masking tape to keep things tight while glue dries. The inner walls are peel and stick , make sure the P&S is facing outwards.

The base makes it easy to keep things square.

Outer walls with 2 sprays of white primer.

looks like you picked a very nice one!

Looks like you are off to a great start!
Jan,
I second John's comments. you are off to a great start. I have been in the real station. Years ago, while visiting a client in Canaan, we went to lunch there. Great little restaurant. Years later, some kids lit the station on fire. Quite a mess. About half the building burned. I believe that it has been rebuilt. nice quaint little town. Keep up the good work.
Frank / Erieman
Thanx Andy , John , Frank , on we go.

Peel and stick the outer walls to the inner walls starting with the end walls.

looking good Jan
when are you going to finish it? ;D
Cor
Great start Jan...I'll be following along closely.
I just got that kit in HO a couple of weeks ago and got around to opening the box late last week...sure are a lot of pieces. I'm depending on you to get me over the bumps for this one.
Don't forget the photos... ;D
I'll do my best GP, and plenty of photo's . As to your H0 build , I wonder if IKEA has a larger Lazy Suzan ;D
The windows for the first floor , peel and stick , 1 long frame where the rest of the windows is stuck to.
I was afraid it would be hard to get the windows in the openings , but that went quite well.
Hard to see , but added a piece of trim on the top of the windows.
This part of the build is actually a bit tedious, there's just so many windows, with every window consisting of 5 parts.
Some pictures of the progress with windows and doors. Each wall takes about 1 1/2 hours.

Jan.......
This is getting to be just about cool...
Thanx
Bob
Jan
That's a lot of window castings.
Got most of them done today , starting on the platforms now, will have pics later on.
That is going to be one big station
Jan,
Great build, thanks for sharing.
Tom ;D
Thanx Tom and John , the pics later has become pics tomorrow, although The Masters starts tomorrow and I don't have pay-tv in my train room.
A few days later I finally got back to the workbench , after I had done some benchwork, building big stuff that isn't that fussy is a great diversion from N-scale structures.
I started the day building this benchwork for the Clay center area, thge station , tower and yard will be placed here.
Then I felt like doing a little bit on the station.
Straightened out the round windows as much as possible , and placed a black piece of paper inside the bay window.
A support for the roof.

Assembled side walls and floors to the docks.
Did some work on the station Easter weekend.
Slot and tab assembly of the sub roof plus overhang.
Inside of the tower painted black.
And the front panels painted black from the inside.
While the paint dries assembled the beams for the platform roof.
Front inner panels assembled, slot and tab so not hard to place.
Outside walls assembled , this took some more patience and fiddling.
Took a few days, but the tower has it's windows. The photo sure shows the little faults , glad they're not that visible in 1:1.
Looking good! Looks like you are making steady progress.
Spent about an hour on roof brackets , there are almost 70 of the small ones for the first floor roof.

Just to show the size , the building on the IKEA Lazy Susan with an AA Penlite Battery
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fjanbouli.com%2Fimages%2Fgebouwen%2Fcanaan%2Fcan42.jpg&hash=125d1823ab1a068d8e4dcf643cf6e74dc207799c)
Great progress Jan. It's amazing how large the building looks in the pictures, then reality sets in when you put the battery next to the kit and you get some perspective of the real size.
Keep working in this scale and what your mother told you about going blind may actually happen..... ;D
Never knew that the tale of going blind had anything to do with size ;D ;D ;D
It's coming along nicely Jan. That's a really cool structure!

Don't have much time at the moment but I did do some work on the station.
Overhang roof parts with rafters.

Hi,
Great, you did a fantastic job putting it together in that small scale......
Regards,Chris
Thanks Chris
Main roof construction, had to cut little bits and pieces away to make it fit, but hardly worth mentioning.

The shingles are styrene sheets they have relief and are peel and stick.

They'll need a bit of sanding on the top edges , but I'll do that after painting and weathering and then add roof caps.

Very nice Jan!
Thanx Gregory
The benchwork is a T form and one of the tracks will be coming out of the backdrop , probably hidden by a hill or a forest. If I wanted a crossing with a Y built in would that be very hard to wire?
Added more grays to the roof and started tarpapering the overhang.

Thanx Bob , glad you like it , means a lot .

Looks great! Enjoying the thread.
Durn, a can of dullcote is small to me, and now I see this sittin' next to one!
All I can say is Awesome Build - simply AWESOME!
Keep up the great work and keep postin' these great pictures! ;D ;D ;D
That's going to be a really cool scene when you "plant" it at a crossing. Good work!
John
