Title: Here is a challenge for someone
Post by: martin.ojaste on April 08, 2014, 05:47:53 PM
A friend of mine was driving through Idaho City, Idaho and came upon this great building. It is hard to say what it is, but I think it is a great modelling opportunity for a modeller who needs a scratch building challenge.

It is located at the intersection of Bear Run Rd and Main Street. (GPS 43°49'50" N 115°49'56" W)

Any takers?

This would require a very big box of detail castings.

Looks like a new kit from Doug.  Most likely that's why there is a stop sign on the gate.
Getting it ready for the show next March!!!!

That gentlemen is what is referred to as a "Boogle House".  For those unfamiliar with what a Boogle house is, you need to read the book  Why I built the Boogle House.    (http://www.amazon.com/Why-Built-The-Boogle-House/dp/B0006BLUE8)

To make a long story short it's about this kid who starts off with a turtle as a pet and he builds a house for it.  He then trades the turtle for a rabbit and finds out the house is too small and takes the turtle house and adds to it.  This goes on until he ends up with a horse, but can't keep it because of local ordinances, so he ends up turning into his clubhouse that he calls a Boogle house, which is made up of all of the previous pet houses, including the original turtle house way up on top.

I grew up with the story which became a joke within my family that when ever we saw a house similar to the one in the OP picture we referred to it as a Boogle House.  Cute book.  My mom found a copy on Amazon and sent it to my daughter Desire a few years back.

That looks like a kit-cluster than someone modeled a real building after

Here are few more views.

(BTW: if anyone makes a kit from this, send me a copy; I'm ready for it... I think??

Hi Martin:

As John S. said a large box of detail casting. Also needed will be a large collection of paper signs.

Martin...

If you have friends in Idaho City they are profoundly LOST ! ! !

I think I know where that building is off of high way 21.

Solution for the build.................. take you entire detail scrap box in one hand..................  build a BIG mound of yellow glue on a work surface then................... Hold detail box at some distance....................

ready ...........aim ...............fire  !!!!!!!!!!

Looks like the building codes in Idaho City are a little lacking...

And to think some folks claim FSM kits are not prototypical.

Hal..............

We have building codes here in Idaho ? ? ? ?

Those permit fees are only part of the good ole' boys...... pay off ....system we have here.

If you have a few beers set out when the inspector comes............it's amazing what they THINK they see.

If it wasn't for no system we wouldn't have any system at all.
