Title: Architecture & Passion
Post by: madharry on October 24, 2018, 12:08:03 PM
While I was at the Montelirail show in France recently I came across some interesting card kits.
I picked up a couple in n scale 1/160 to use in the background of my new Norwegian layout to force the perspective.
Here is one I have built earlier together with the pack of the next build.

Here are the contents of the second kit. The kit comprises of several sheets of card of different thicknesses. The balconies are beautifully laser cut and very fragile.

The laser cut main front wall needs cutting from its holding sheet.
The instructions (in French) call for the window and door frames to be painted a stone colour. I am using antique white. The paint is best applied to the inside of the frames (which have been burnt by the laser) from the rear. The picture in the instructions shows this being applied from the front. This would result in paint smudges to the front of the wall which would not look good (bonne).

Extremely nice for a card stock building. I'll be following.

I agree Curt, thanks for following.
Here are the main elements of the front wall. The larger grey piece is glued on the reverse of the cream wall and then the window frames and latticework is glued to the front. Voila as they in France!

Next the window acetate has to be glued to the rear of the main wall. This is best done before the next step which is adding the side walls.

I agree Jan. But then again I found everything in France a bit on the pricey side. These kits are the only things I bought at Montelimar, the second hand prices for US locos etc were just silly.

Ploughing on..........
The floors are glued inside he building followed by the back wall. This makes the structure pretty sturdy.

Next up the covering for the side walls which wrap around to form chimneys at the top..............

And now to add the balconies. They are different sizes so I made sure I glued the correct pieces in the holes..........

Next comes the roof. There are additional supports to glue to roof.
The card for the roof includes the main roof and the extra detailing.
I added acetate for the windows to the underside of the r0oof before glueing it to the structure.
The extra detailing was then added.

Next the railings and balconies need finishing.
The laser cut detail is incredible. They are very very delicate but give the building great character.
I do not usually model in n-scale and with parts like these being so small I have to be very careful with applying glue.
I am using Deluxe Materials Super 'Phatic glue for it's quick grab qualities together with a fine tooth pick to apply it with.

I applied the chimney caps and painted the brackets under the balconies antique white.
I have finished..............
Final picture of both buildings - the one on the left cost 39 euros and the one on the right 34 euros.
www.Architecture-Passion.fr (http://www.architecture-passion.fr)  have a range of kits in various scales on their website.

I thought I would buy my two kits before the drawbridge is pulled up and the lights go out!

Thanks Lynn. Glazing the windows was easy, cleaning them would be a different matter...........
