Hi guys,
What kadee coupler should you use on a Bachmann On30 0-4-2 Porter locomotive?
Bruce,
I may be wrong but I think you can use the On3 couplers on On30. On the On30 height guage, they use an On3 coupler.

Numbers 803 and 807 should work.
Have you tried calling Kadee and asking them?
Tom ;D
I tried leaving an email with kadee about it but have gotten no response. Part of the problem is that I have used number #148 couplers for the cars which seem to work fine so would those On3 couplers match up? Another issue is that the Porter Locomotive needs a longer coupler shaft than normal because of how it's built.
Bruce,
Tom is right, the #803 or #807 is the coupler that would work for an On30 engine. The #148 is an HO Coupler and I do not think it will mate with the "O" Scale #803 or #807.
If you have been using an HO Coupler you might want to look at one of the other HO Coupler styles to find a long shank that will fit.
Jim
Check this page for the HO compatible couplers. https://kadee.com/htmbord/HO-Scale%20Couplers.htm (https://kadee.com/htmbord/HO-Scale%20Couplers.htm)
I don't know which of the long centered one is correct for the match to #148 but a little searching on their website should determine that.
edit: Looks like the #156 is the right one.

Here's what I came up with.
Since I started converting the cars over using the #148 Kadee couplers, it seemed my answer was to use another HO scale product for the locomotives. As it turned out I had some #146 couplers which when placed side by side to the Bachmann coupler for the 0-4-2 Porter coupler looked identical to me. And they seem to work fine.
I believe that the #156 couplers would have worked as well. The specifications sheet is so similar to the #146's I am not sure if there is any difference. Had I start over again I would probably go with the On3 coupler products that Tom and others recommended.
