For those of us without stashes of Floquil paints, anyone have a suggestion for a good substitute for the above paint color?
Preferably a craft paint, as that would be easiest and quickest to get. Barring that, any other brands.
And no, there is not any outside I can walk out and look at LOL
That will have to wait until next time I am in town.
Thanks.
Jim
I use Model Master aged concrete.
Hi,
Doug foscale use Unbleached titanium white, (and I use it too)
Bob van gelder, in the wrisley paper kit speak about folkart linen ( I've try it too)

Jim,
Concrete color varies depending on the location you are modeling. For upstate NY, I like Delta Ceramcoat Mudsone. It is slightly more gray than the already mentioned Apple Barrel linen.
Thanks for the replies, guess I should have researched further, but honestly, I was drawing a blank on color, sitting at the desk, earlier.
I'll get one or all of the craft type paints, tomorrow. I can thin those enough to airbrush the sidewalk pieces. Perhaps pick up a small tube of the Unbleached Titanium.
I'll experiment with them and see which I like the best.
The modeling brands I'll pass on for now, unless the above don't suit me, as I would have to order them.
Thanks again.
Jim
I use the following two colors mixed to get the shade I want. It works great. Here is a sample of what it looks like.
Frank
nicely done frank! those chalk paints are great
Frank, does the chalk paint give that texture that shows on the sidewalk?
Jim
Jim,
The texture is in the resin casting. The paint has no texture.
Frank
Hey Jim:
Scale Coat makes Concrete and Aged concrete as does Model Master Paints.
Karl
Either craft paint "Parchment" or artist (using 40% off craft store coupon :-) ) "Unbleached Titanium". Add a -very small amount- of olive green.
dave
Gents....
A lot depends on where you are modeling.
In most eastern locations, you need to have a bit of green to simulate the humidity supported mildew / moss color that develops after some years.
Grey works only sorta well on modern concrete that has aged for a year or two.
See ya
Bob
Made it to Hobby Lobby yesterday, came home with all the craft paints you guys listed, except the Apple Barrel Sandstone, but have enough to mix and match what I would want. Also a tube of Liquitex Unbleached Titanium. That color looks a little too tan, would need some mixing and weathering, for sure.
Note, all the Liquitex artist acrylics were at reduced price. Original sticker price was $6.59, reduced to $1.64. I didn't notice this until I was home, or would have bought other colors, different earth tones, at least. Going back later today, or Monday.
Karl, my preference for craft paints is that I can get them easily, have both a Hobby Lobby and a Micheal's nearby. The former does carry some MM paints, but didn't have that color. So, I have to order most hobby type paints.
Thanks for the input, and suggestions, all.

I spent a lot of time trying to get a paint color that I thought looked like concrete. It is not until I cover up most of the paint with some chalks that I really like the results.
I really like the artist acrylics. I don't know if your store is discontinuing Liquitex, or just making room for their new product line. I tried some of the 'acrylic gouache' yesterday, and really like it!
dave
Dave, it may be what Hobby Lobby is doing. After reading your last, I called the wife, she is there now, and had her look. The tube Heavy Body is on sale, but no other Liquitex items are. They don't have the Gouache yet, she is going o ask about it. I also checked the HL website, same thing, just the heavy body acrylics on sale.
It definitely looks interesting.
Jim
I don't like the tube heavy bodies, you have to thin them too much for model work. The gouache is 'just right' in terms of viscosity.
dave
The chalk paints are worth a look. I have tried many other paints and found these to be the best. The two colors give you a great range of concrete shades. There is another gray that I have that I have not used yet.
