Hi Guys:
Am starting Emporium Seafood Co today. We will be doing this A little differently this time. This will not be built as a diorama. It will be built as separate structures so it will be easier to install on my friends layout. I also don't want to do the water at this time. That way all the water can be done at the sdame time and will look the same.
Karl
Hi All:
Am staining all the structure walls with Floquil Driftwood stain per the instructions.
Karl
Karl
I will be following along, as aways. Keep up the good work my friend.
I love the waterfront structures and will certainly be following along!
--George
Hey John S and Opa George:
Glad to have you along for the ride. Walls are coated with two coats of Floquil Driftwood stain. Used almost halt the bottle.
Here's A Pic.
Karl
I'm following.
As always a great start Karl.
But lets see the kit was 195.00 and the Driftwood Stain should be about 300.00 a bottle.
And you used half.
So you in about 300.45!!! ;)
Jerry
Yo Karl,
Looks like another winner in the making. I sure hope you have a bunch of bottles of "Driftwood" stain still available. My collection dried up a long time ago.
;D ;D ;D
Really like this kit, Karl. Look forward to seeing what you do with the parts.
Horton
I've been tempted to pull this one out of the stash and build it for quite some time now so I'll certainly have two eyes on this build. :o It's going to be a lot of fun to follow along with your build Karl! :D :D :D
I'm here and following along.
Tom ;D
Hey Curt, Jerry, Bruce, Horton, Bob B and Tom:
Glad to have you guys along for the ride. This is actually the second time I've built this kit. But it some years ago for another friend but not as a waterfront model. It was built on the ground fro him. This time also not building it on base as my friend Jon thought iit wold be easier to install into a waterfront if not on the base.
Karl
Hey All:
Got some work on this done today. Main building walls are prepared and assembled. Painted, Windows with shades & Doors, signs and light weathering have been applied.
Karl
Hi All:
Instructions say to spray the windows & doors with Driftwood stain using an airbrush I suppose. Don't have one of thiose anymore so I had to figure something else out. You guessed it went to the Ace hardware. Used Rustoleum perfect gray Spray paint. They came out pretty close I think. I'm satisfied.
Karl
Wow you're quick. Looks great Karl.
Karl,
Looking good. Love that driftwood.
Frank
Hey Frank:
Thanks buddy appreciate it.
Karl
Following along, Karl...cannot post often.
Karl,
looking real good.....
Loren...
Karl, great modeling on this start. It looks like the Perfect Gray is a perfect match for the driftwood stained walls.
--George
Hey Curt:
somehow missed your post before Frank B's. Sorry about the. Thanks buddy much appreciated.
Karl
Hey Dave K, Loren And Opa George:
Hey guys thanks for all the great compliments. They are much appreciated as always.
Karl
Karl,
I like that Ace gray. Good choice, I may need to get a can of that. Really like the subtle weathering, thanks for sharing.
Hey Jerry:
yeah I buy A lot of Ace Hardware spray paint to replace Floquil colors. Glad you like how it turned out.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Got A little work done today. Added the two pipes, the vent, roof top trim, the tar & gravel roof along with its roof trusses and of course the Cornice.
Karl
Looks good Karl.
Very nice, Karl. --George
Hey Curt and Opa George:
thanks guys much appreciated.
Karl
Karl,
Great job, love the coloring and weathering.
Tom ;D
Looking very nice, Karl.
Nice subtle colours and I do like that cornice.
Cheers, Mark.
Looking great Karl, as always! The tones to the paint and weathering are fabulous. Not too overdone. Just enough! Will be following!
Hey Tom, mark & Todd W:
Hey guys thanks for the great compliments. They are much appreciated as always.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Finished the flat roof on the main building today. Added one of my favorite billboards. I added the 5 metal detail castings to the billboard.
Karl
really nice work on that billboard Karl! I just love how the walls look with the Driftwood stain on them
Hey Bob:
Thanks buddy much appreciated.
Karl
That looks great Karl...the driftwood, the rust, the window shades - great!
John
Karl, genius touch with the billboard finial details. It really adds the WOW factor.
--George
Hey John & George:
Thanks guys always like to hear from you. John glad you like how the colors are coming out. thanks. Yeah George I always like putting those details on my billboards. Thanks to both of you.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Been working on the peaked roof and water tank. The roofing is Papercreek corrugated. Been working on the water tank. The boards on the water tank are one piece. This didn't work as when I wrapped it around the tank it kept splitting. So I cut each individual board and applied them separately. Worked much better.
Karl
Very nice Karl.
Hey Curt:
thanks appreciate it.
Karl
Your work continues to amaze me. My hero.
Karl, You're coloring and weathering are great! The billboard really stands out.
Looks great Karl! Like others have said, the billboard is a real eye catcher. The walls look terrific in driftwood.
Karl
Another great build, like the others have said - love the colors.
The Paper Creek products were first-class, I'm sorry that line didn't continue.
dave
Hey Bob D., Mark, Bob B., John S., And Dave:
Hey Guys glad to have you all along for the ride and see you are all enjoying the build. Thanks so much for all the great compliments. Much appreciated.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Here's A copy of the billboard if anyone wants to use it.
Karl
Hi All:
finished the water tank today. As can be seen I did not use thread for tank bands. I used paper painted with rust. Then I applied Tichy Train Group turnbuckles and NBW castings.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Got a little more done. As I said water tank is finished and also finished offices walls and supports. Also added awnings.
Here's a pic.
Karl
Hi All:
Finished the office today. Added A paper Creek tar paper roof. Stacks and awnings are added. On to the Clock/Bell tower.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Opps looks like I'm gonna have to his the roof edged with A&I wash to get rid of the white edges.
Karl
Hey guys:
Here's a better pic.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Hmmm I don't now why that shows in the photos like that. You sure can't see it in person. Let me try a different angle.
Karl
Hi All:
Lets try this one.
Karl
Hey guys:
That looks much better. Just a little along the top.
Karl
I use neutral grey artist markers (from craft stores) to paint the edges of Paper Creek tarpaper and corrugated siding here. Black would be too dark, the neutral grey provides the shadow without being too obvious.
dave
Karl,
The build is looking very nice.
Tom ;D
Hey Dave:
thanks for the tip. Much appreciated.
Karl
Hey Tom:
Thanks buddy much appreciated.
Karl
Nice job so far.
Love the build, so far. And the Camel sign is excellent, thanks for sharing. Definitely going to find a home on a structure here.
Jim
Looking good Karl
Karl
Looks great! I like the paper bands on the water tower. FYI - I have had my iPhone add highlights to pictures that were not there. Colors get enhanced, too. Yellow becomes bright yellow. I'm toning down pictures instead of enhancing them like we used to do. I have gone back to using my SLR for finish pictures.
Beautiful work Karl.
You sure the white wasn't left over snow??? ;)
Jerry
Hey Curt Jim & Steve Drees, John S. & Jerry:
Wow guys thanks for all the great compliment they are much appreciated as always.
Jim glad you liked the camel sign. Make good use of it.
John S. yeah I do all my water tanks like that. I think it looks much more realistic that way as the tank bands are flat
Jerry yeah I pretty sure it wasn't snow. Ha Ha Ha.
Karl
Hi All:
Finished the tower today except for the roof. That is next and look like real fun.
Here's a pic.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Just notice my bell tower platform is crooked. It has been removed to be straightened.
Karl
getting caught up from a few weeks back and WOW you made some progress! Coming together fantastic! Love the Bell Tower with the clock and the rust on your roof!
Karl,
I no longer think I can tell if you or George built these kits. Your work is flat out amazing.
Thanks for sharing with all of us.
;D ;D ;D
Hey Todd W. & Bruce:
hey guys thanks so much for the great compliments. much appreciated. Wow being compared with George. Thanks
Karl
hey Guys:
Been working on the tower roof. Direction call for a folded piece of paper on the ridges. I pretty much use individual cap shingle since they have been available. Took photo before I painted them so you can see em better. The cap shingles are applied with double face adhesive tape. two more sides to do and add the finial.
Karl
Hi All:
Clock/Bell tower is finished. On to the stairway.
Karl
The clock tower is really nice.
Hey Curt:
Thanks buddy much appreciated.
Karl
Hey Guys:
the main building is finished. On the the guard shed.
Karl
Fantastic work, Karl. I think this is my favorite build of yours so far.
George
The stairs look great.
Hey George & Curt:
thanks for the great compliments. Much appreciated.
Karl
Looks fantastic, Karl!
Cheers, Mark.
Thanks Mark.
Excellent modeling as always. That is one busy structure.
Hey Bob:
Thanks for the great compliment much appreciated.
Karl
In my last post I said the main building was finished. That was not quite true. I still had to add the following features.
On the front, platform with details, and the canopy. On the back, Canopies, truck bumpers and stairs. I also still have to add the stack. It is quite a job and will take some time. Also added the guard house.
Karl
This is very nice Karl. The colors blend very well on this project. I will give you a big WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
very nice Karl! I like the way the black rolled roofing is cut, and the green roofing above the large rear freight doors is a nice compliment- all the different roof materials used really add interest to the structure. I need to put some canopies on some of my builds-... I find the back of the billboard just as interesting as the front (the horizontal board detail behind the sign).
Years ago I had a hard time finding this kit for a reasonable price, so I ended up scratchbuilding the thing- I am impressed by George's design on this one! (well, on all of them! to be honest...)
Hey Bob C:
WOW111 Thanks for all the great comments it is much appreciated as always.
Karl
Hi Guys:
the main building is now finished with the addition of the stack. Hope it's not to rusty. the instructions say to brush it heavily with with rust-colored paint pigment powders.
Karl
Karl,
It's all very well done, Mikey, er, Tom likes it!
Tom ;D
Hey Tom:
thanks buddy much appreciated.
Karl
I love your modeling Karl , always the same level of craftsmanship , and your use of colors ( or is it the lack of ) are top notch.
You need to put that in a location where you can see all 4 sides Karl.
Hey STEVE D.
Somehow missed your post. Thanks for the great compliment.
Karl
Hi All:
Been working on the dock. Here's what I have done so far.
Karl
Karl, I zoomed in on your photos for a super close-up. That is exquisite work. Really nice job.
George
Hey George:
Thanks buddy much appreciated.
Karl
Hey guys:
here's where I am on this at this point. I'm going to have to build a temp base under the building so I can install the dock. Here's a pic.
Karl
Really nice job on the dock.
Sweet, Karl. Excellent.
Impressive build!

Hi All:
Just finished detailing the Maintenance Shed. Here's a pic. George painted his machinery BN Green a little bright for me. So I used Zinc Chromate primer. On to the removable roof. and other details on the platform.
Karl

Karl

Karl
This is a really great looking project Karl
Karl,
I have been following along but failed to post a comment before this. I have to say the shingles and roofing on the addition are my favorite part of this build, next to that beautiful crane, of course. Your detail parts look great and really add to the structure.
She's coming along great Karl! Love the colors and weathering (amongst other things). ;)

Looks very nice my friend.

Karl, wonderful job on this kit. I love all the details and the beautiful roof lines, and I REALLY love that huge smokestack in the back. Now I think I need to find one for sale one of these years.
--George
